## What is Newmonth?

How much can you spend today? Not your balance — what's actually free after rent, November's insurance, and the trip you're saving for. newmonth answers that with one number, and keeps it honest when plans change.

KNOW WHAT'S SAFE TO SPEND
Zero-based budgeting in one sentence: every amount gets a job before you spend it. Assign your income to categories until To Assign reads zero. From then on, each category's Available is the honest answer to "can I afford this?", and the answer is always on screen.

OPEN THE APP, SEE WHAT'S LEFT TO DO
Home is a worklist, not a dashboard: what's still to assign, what needs attention (overspending, underfunded goals, a statement ready to pay, transactions to review), and what's due this month. Pin the categories you check most. When nothing's left, Home says so: "All caught up".

ADD A PURCHASE BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE SHOP
• Under five taps: type the amount, pick the payee, and the category and account fill in from last time
• Paid with Apple Pay? A one-time Shortcuts automation drops every tap into your budget, category included
• Bills that repeat post themselves on schedule — you only enter what's new

OVERSPENT? FIX IT WHERE YOU SEE IT
The moment a category goes over, the fix is right there: cover it from another category or from To Assign, one tap. Assigning works the same way: tap Assign Money, pick a category, type (a calculator is built in), and watch To Assign count down; nothing is saved until you finish. Or apply a rule — Underfunded, last month, your twelve-month average — each previews its total before you tap, and they layer. Over-assigned? One tap takes back what sits beyond your goals.

SAVE AT YOUR OWN PACE
Five kinds of goals — monthly, weekly, yearly, a savings balance, or needed by a date — and a glance tells you whether you're on track.

CREDIT CARDS WITHOUT THE HEADACHE
A credit card is just another account: spend from the category, pay the card with a transfer. No phantom payment category, no money moving behind your back — if your categories are positive, the cash for the bill is already there. Carrying a balance? Budget toward the card each month, track the statement, and the app tells you when it's ready to pay. Loans, cash, savings, and net-worth tracking accounts live alongside.

BUDGET TOGETHER, WITHOUT THE "WHO BOUGHT THIS?"
Share your plan with a partner through iCloud — you both see the same numbers, live, on your own phones. Give each account an owner, and every phone opens new transactions on the right account and remembers payees per person. Every transaction shows who entered it, and Home shows what your partner added.

SEE WHERE YOU STAND
Spending trends, category breakdowns, how many months ahead you live — and the odd fact your budget has been quietly collecting about you.

YOUR MONEY NEVER LEAVES YOUR ICLOUD
No account to create. No bank logins. No servers — we don't have any. Your budget lives on your iPhone and syncs through your own iCloud — nobody else can read it, including us. Bring your budget over from a YNAB export or any CSV, import statements as CSV, OFX, or CAMT, and export everything whenever you like. No lock-in.

POWERFUL UNDERNEATH, SIMPLE ON TOP
Under the calm, beautiful surface is the whole method: splits, transfers, scheduled transactions, flags, reconciliation against your real statements, five goal types, credit cards done right. Most of the effort went into making sure you rarely notice — simple enough for the person in your household who'd rather not budget, complete enough to trust with your whole financial life.

PRICING
newmonth is free while it's in early release. Paid plans arrive with a future update, priced to stay fair and accessible: a yearly or monthly subscription, or a one-time purchase that's yours for good. Everyone who joins before then keeps full access free for 3 more months after that update. After that, subscribe or keep using the app read-only — exporting your data always stays free. ## Version history (last 3 releases)

### 0.11.0 — 2026-09-28

• Notifications — if you want them: a card payment coming due, a bill due today, your day to assign, and every transaction your automations record.
• Bank alerts — a new Shortcuts action reads the email or text your bank sends after a booking and puts every transaction in your review list.
• No more doubles — a payment you already typed in or scheduled is matched instead of recorded twice. When newmonth isn't sure, it asks: Same Transaction or Keep Both.
• Payee rules — "REWE SAGT DANKE 47281" becomes "REWE", straight into its category, on every future import and capture.
• Repeating goals — a goal that repeats every few months or once a year can set its amount aside every cycle or top up to it, and can count the money already in its category.
• Where It Went — your month as one color strip; tap any category to see its transactions.
• Credit cards — set the payment due day once; every statement's due date follows from it.
• Plus fixes to goals, snooze, Quick-Assign and shared budgets.

### 0.10.0 — 2026-09-08

Newmonth now opens on Home — a worklist, not a dashboard. It shows what's still to assign, what needs attention (overspending, underfunded goals, statements ready to pay, transactions to review) and what's due for the rest of the month. When everything's handled, it says "All caught up".

• Assign money in the budget itself: tap a category, type an amount, watch To Assign count down, and save when you're happy. "Quick-Assign by …" fills everything by a rule — Underfunded, last month, your average — costed before you tap, and rules layer instead of overwriting each other.
• Over-assigned? Tap the red banner: "Overfunded" takes back exactly what sits beyond your goals.
• Apple Pay capture: set up a Shortcuts automation once (Settings → Import & Export → Apple Pay Capture) and every Apple Pay tap lands in your "to review" list with the shop's usual category filled in.
• People in a shared budget: give each account an owner, and every phone opens new transactions on its owner's account and remembers payees per person. Transactions show who entered them, and Home lists what your partner added.
• Pin the categories you check most on Home. Search the budget, or filter it by Underfunded, Overspent, With Goal or Snoozed.
• Getting Started now lives on Home, and "I'll explore on my own" really means it.

Also fixed: repeating transactions keep the day you picked (the 31st no longer drifts to the 30th for good), a shared budget no longer enters a repeat twice, changing a transfer into an expense really converts it, an account's register no longer inherits the Transactions tab's filter, and Category Trends averages start at a category's first spending.
