I entered alone while my wife finished a cigarette outside, inquired on the price for ride, and was given answer of $7 fare. I booked the car which was already in the lot and walked to it to put down my bags, my oblivious wife then entered and inquired the same ride, and was given an $8 fare, this I was dismissed by me as an honest mistake and I proceeded to our destination. Upon arrival I handed driver a $10 bill, to which my wife responded that the ride was already paid for, including a $5 tip. I requested my $10 bill back and the driver refused to give me my money back, claiming the tip was not included on the card, meanwhile on his tablet it read $5 tip included for driver, he quickly tried to change the screen hoping I didn’t see the note about tip. It was only because I refused to exit the car until my money was returned to me or he called the base to verify tip. A $5 tip is generous for such a short ride, to be bullied an additional $10 is nothing short of criminal, as tips are optional. Frankly I’m shaken up by this experience, as well as outraged, embarrassed and insulted. Only because I don’t want to have the whole of Newport Cabs punished over one drivers actions have I not proceed with further action. I patiently await your response. Thank you in advance for correcting this issue in anyway seen fit. Driver was utilizing car 65.
