## What is NewQuake?

NewQuake shows you what an earthquake actually did, not just its magnitude.

Every significant quake comes with a map you can read. Replay the P and S seismic waves spreading from the epicenter, see ShakeMap shading where the ground shook hardest, watch the aftershock sequence fan out from the mainshock, and find the active faults nearby, including which plate is diving beneath which at a subduction zone. For the largest events, watch the finite-fault rupture unfold across the fault plane.

NewQuake is a great app for global information pertaining to Earthquakes, Volcanic Activity, Tsunamis Alerts, and even Mining Explosions!  Open the app to the list of recent events and choose the event you want more information about and location.  The global map has great satellite imagery.  Spin the globe, choose the location, zoom in for a closer look!  The global map labels all sort of things like major cities, all the way down to rural out of the way places, and even washes!  NewQuake does a very good job of keeping you informed within minutes of the most recent global activity.  This app requires no subscriptions, no ads, no selling of your information!  You can set the app to your needs like notifications.

Volcanoes now stay on the Map for as long as they are erupting, with the Smithsonian Global Volcanism Program weekly activity report filling in eruptions other agencies close early.

Subduction faults on the Map always show which plate is diving beneath the other, and how fast it moves.

A new Depth card on every event page puts the quake depth in context, against the seafloor above it and, where one is mapped, the subducting slab it sits on.

Tsunami forecasts now read straight from the official bulletin, so the assessment matches what the agency actually issued.

A faster, smoother Map: quicker launch, better-paced rupture replays, and a refined Last week M5.5+ quake tour.

Earthquakes now arrive as sequences. Aftershocks group under their mainshock, drawn as connectors on the map and linked from every event page, so a whole sequence reads at a glance instead of as a scattered list.

The Map tab is rebuilt. It flies to each new quake as it arrives, replays the fault rupture in place, and colors every quake by how old it is: red in the past hour, then orange, yellow, and white as it ages, down to grey. Active faults are colored by slip rate and plate boundary, and a single options menu now holds every layer and legend.

Explore the past on the same map, with guided tours of the great historical earthquakes and rare seismic events.

Richer event pages: focal mechanism beachballs, more accurate P and S wave propagation, a fault plane chosen from the evidence, and a note when agencies disagree.

The app keeps a week of events and a year of landmark quakes and backfills daily, so Recent and the Map are already full when you open them.

Search the Recent feed by place or term, tap an alert to land on that quake on the map, and watch rows update as agencies revise them.

New Historical Quakes browser on the Map tab: the great and giant earthquakes of the past, plotted and replayable.

Track multiple locations alongside GPS, each with its own alert range and magnitude threshold, and a new Settings summary showing exactly what you are covered for.

Smarter alerts: a real-time connection delivers qualifying events sooner, alerts follow escalations, tsunami all-clears tell you when the danger passes, and an Alert Delivery status in Settings confirms notifications are working.

Search the Recent feed, where notable quakes stay pinned to the top with the real event type - earthquake, quarry blast, or explosion - right in the feed.

A new Glossary in Settings and on every event page explains the technical terms in plain language, and the Home Screen widget now follows the app appearance setting.
