Now they took away the future radar and only shows current. Well, I know it’s raining right now with the wet stuff falling from the sky, what I would like to know is how long it will last and where the storm is moving to. The previous versions were definitely more user friendly. I liked the app much better in the previous format. Since the update to the current format, the radar pictures barely even move. I liked it better before when I could bring up the app and instantly see the moving radar images for my location. The newest version also has much more intrusive ads that pop up randomly. ### 1/5 — The UI Team Should Be Fired *2024-09-25, version 6.90.20* Why is it, with all the negative feedback received, does this app get worse? You open the App and you get an ad. You click on Video Forecast and Closed Captioning takes up 1/2 of the phones viewing screen without being able to turn it off. You try to open the video for full screen viewing on phone and that’s not possible. If you click on News 6 tile, you “still” need the app to view the content. Why? When it could easily bring you to its website. Overall navigation makes me think you have non-tech people designing it. How about listening to us for a change? They used a perfect good looking effective wonderful app. If it isn’t broken don’t fix it, now it’s broken no longer worth my time to view. ### 1/5 — Hate this new version so much *2024-08-31, version 6.90.19* I’ve spent the last two months trying to find something to take the place of the old app. It was so intuitive, the radar was so easy to use, it worked in landscape. This new version is horrible. It is cumbersome to move from area to area. was a loyal follower for six and now I’ve started to follow nine which website is similar, but their radar is the same as click six used to be. I think the old version was much better, layout was better, map was better, I miss the personalized text overview, now it is just same old standard info every other weather app has. Then they merged it into this app that is just a nightmare to navigate. There are too many sub tabs that all sound too similar to each other. It’s not clear and upfront how to navigate to basic things that you expect from a weather app. The hurricane section (as is most of the app) is now more like a redirect to a website page rather than in app experiences. The radar portion is less than useful (I don’t need to see where the storm has been, I want to know where it’s going). It will say 80% rain all day even if there’s only a slight chance. You previously got a warning if rain was approaching. Now I get a notification after it’s already started raining. I’ve canceled so many plans by paying attention to this app only to find out I could have gone on the boat or the bike. It is better than the other local channels but by far better than the sorry weather bug app which keeps getting worse and worse by the day. ### 5/5 — If it ain’t broke…. *2024-07-19, version 6.90.17* Don’t fix it. This is not a case of I don’t like change. In fact, I’m a UI/UX designer so I’m all about improving apps for an enhanced user experience. The UI is missing the mark. The design is outdated and follows a web format rather than design for mobile app. The UX is seriously baffling. The last version was appropriately trimmed down to allow users to get info they desired at a glance without excessive cognitive load. But it was also customizable, particularly the radar and preferences. Now with the new update the user experience is so cumbersome and not intuitive. It’s a major issue that gave me an abandon point feeling multiple times. I’m surprised because this news agency has a stellar reputation for web design. In fact, I used it as an example of a Heuristics review to show a good example to a client. The app was a functional version of what’s available on the web, as all good responsive design should be. I’m not sure what happened but I hope the reviews are read and taken seriously because if I get that UIUX process and can be patient to stick it out but felt like abandoning multiple times then I feel like others won’t even use it. That would be a loss from a very reputable news and weather team. Now for the positives… I like that the radar now shows the upcoming radar without stopping at current time. It was a pain before to have to go in to select future cast. The graphics for the current conditions are nice. More industry standard. Having the current conditions and the radar at the top of the screen is good UX because that’s what people likely want to see most in our area. The video forecast below it is useful and in the appropriate place in the hierarchy. The hamburger menu is fine but should align better with calls to action on home page. Adding a location has customizable features which are unique and make your app stand out without losing function or adding confusion. The remainder of the home page needs a redesign Pin it should be a button, not a hero image. Upselling the other apps should have a different design than the weather related info (current conditions, radar, video forecast). Asking for users to download other apps are different call to actions, so they need a differentiated heading and layout so it doesn’t confuse users as their mental schema organizes it the same. The ad placement is off. Jumpstart your morning is a call to action for your company. It should be larger than the ad that currently shows solar panels because that’s someone else’s company. I hope this review is helpful and I look forward to seeing the upcoming updates to see what you have in store next. ### 5/5 — This is a great complement to the News6 Hurricane app *2024-06-11, version 6.20* I live on the east coast of Florida and have used the Hurricane app for a number of years. I travel so I have a number of apps. I found the New6 weather app and am satisfied with how not only will it keep me informed of local weather but I can set it to show me the weather at different spots around the country. ### 5/5 — Better than everything else I’ve tried out. *2024-05-08, version 6.20* No sensationalism, no hyperbole, plenty of human level reporting, predictions. WHO better to tell us about hurricanes out there that the folks who live under the constant threat the most. Thanks to the news 6 weather team keeping things down to earth, when a hurricane does threaten us, I’m as calm as a hindu cow in rush hour traffic. I’m always been well prepared for hurricanes for over 30 years. I don’t need to be constantly bombarded with how to be prepared. I understand the need for most folks who frick’n wait till the last minute though. I love to hear em whine when batteries, generators and plywood are sold out. But there is a technical problem with the app in that it needs to have the ability to switch to Landscape profile. The other weather apps showed rain nearby but the Pinpoint app actually showed the rain that was actually over my location. There are a couple features I’d love to see added: - Add the ability to rearrange the locations ie: move individual locations up and down the list. As it stands now users have to renter the locations to get them in a preferred order. - At the top of a location page in the box that lists “Feels Like, Humidity”, etc. add “Today’s High”.
