## What is NEWS2 Calc?

NEWS2 Calc puts the National Early Warning Score 2 at your fingertips — built for paramedics, EMTs and other prehospital providers who need a reliable score in seconds, not minutes.

Tap through the seven NEWS2 parameters on large, glove-friendly buttons and get the total score, risk category and recommended response instantly. No typing, no menus, no signal required.

FEATURES

• Tap-to-score bands for all seven NEWS2 parameters: respiration rate, oxygen saturation, supplemental oxygen, systolic blood pressure, pulse, consciousness (ACVPU) and temperature
• Full support for SpO₂ Scale 1 and Scale 2 (hypercapnic respiratory failure), including correct air/oxygen scoring
• Instant risk stratification — total score, risk category and response guidance update with every tap

NEWS2 Calc is a calculation aid. It does not replace clinical judgement, local protocols or medical direction, and a low score does not rule out serious illness. NEWS2 is validated for adults aged 16 and over; it is not validated for children or during pregnancy. SpO₂ Scale 2 must only be used for patients with confirmed hypercapnic respiratory failure on the direction of a competent clinician.

SCORE SUMMARY CARD
When scoring is complete, a new button appears in the result bar. Tap it to open a summary card showing the total, risk level, and all parameter selections with their sub-scores — timestamped to the minute. You can save the card directly to your photo library for handover documentation or your own records.

UX IMPROVEMENTS
- Haptic Feedback — the app now taps your device when the score is fully entered and again whenever the risk category changes
- Reset button no longer stays inactive after switching to Scale 2 without other inputs
