### 5/5 — The best RSS reader on Apple platforms, bar none!

*2026-04-08*

I’ve tried most of them, this one feels as native as a first party Apple application. If you still care about RSS, this is the best reader out there.

### 5/5 — Streamlined and seamless

*2026-04-05*

I’m so thankful for the streamlined view and concise feed

### 5/5 — Finally a cross device RSS reader

*2026-03-23*

Read all your RSS on all your apple devices and it syncs with iCloud. Brilliant.

### 1/5 — Very very lag

*2026-03-05*

It has very bad performance in iPhone and watch and sometimes in Mac, like the device can’t handle the app, I have the newest iPhone, watch and Mac

**Developer response:** If you want, please send an email to support@xetabit.com and we can see what's going on in terms of performance/lag. What you're describing is not a typical situation.

### 5/5 — So Good RSS Reader

*2026-01-24*

Really, I liked it but, Please, add in-app browser with Adblock, RTL preview in Arabic Articles, and support external syncing like webdav or other cloud storage.

### 4/5 — Refresh on start + keyword filter

*2026-01-19*

Add a refresh on start option and keyword filter please.

**Developer response:** Hello, thank you for the review! Both features are actually available now. Go to settings and you can have it refresh on start among many other options. Regarding keyword filters, there's a tagging system that will allow you to block certain topics or group topics by tag word as well as global search + Spotlight search. Please reach out if you have any questions or suggestions.

### 5/5 — Brilliant rss aggregator

*2026-01-15*

A fantastic alternative to the subscription based services. Privacy protecting too with a iCloud syncing back end.

### 3/5 — A good start, but buggy and missing an expected feature

*2025-09-25*

I know this is an initial release, but there seems to be a few bugs. 1. Articles not being marked read when selected (at first, this seemed to fix itself after a bit). 2. Incorrect unread counts on feeds. 3. Inconsistent feed loading (works sometimes, other times not). 4. iCloud sync issues (this one is very annoying). - Read articles kept getting marked unread. - Feeds would re-order themselves after manual sorting. - The app seemed to be constantly trying to sync and fighting with itself as if multiple sync ops were going simultaneously (after a while, that seems to have settled down). Coming from Reeder Classic, there is one missing feature I expected to be available (at least as an option), which is to follow links/open articles in the app itself (via embedded web viewer) vs. opening links in an external browser.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.1.2 — 2026-08-11

2.1.2 includes a critical fix for background crashes that might cause the app to fail to launch

A focused follow-up to 2.1 with sharper Breaking News, more reliable auto-read, YouTube live and Shorts support, a proper Vision Pro icon, and important fixes for archived-article resurrection during sync.
New
- YouTube: live streams and Shorts are now supported, with the video embedded inline for video-only items.
- Redeem an offer code from Paywall or Settings — entitlements refresh immediately after redemption.
- End-of-list auto-read: when you reach the bottom of a list, the remaining unread items are queued to be marked read.
- visionOS: proper flat platform app icon on Vision Pro.
Improvements
- Sharper Breaking News clustering: entity-aware title tokenization, a temporal-boilerplate veto, and a lone-word guard to prevent false groupings.
- Breaking News actions now behave as a story: unread-first display, story-scoped read and delete, and a proper "mark story read" behavior.
- Breaking reader sheets are hosted at the home level so cards can reorder without dismissing what you're reading.
- Scroll auto-read is now id-keyed and survives in-place relists and long refreshes, preventing rare stalls.
- Hardened cleanup of AI-generated summaries and excerpts: hallucinated "tool result" transcripts and bare-identifier outputs are rejected, and Siri intents surface a clear "unusable summary" error instead of returning garbage. Existing summaries and excerpts are repaired in a one-time pass.
- Reader/scrape pipeline: adaptive scrape-skipping, better image-post heuristics, image caption injection for image-only articles, and site-specific fixes (Gizmodo).
- Low Power Mode gating for AI scanners and List Overview to reduce battery use on the go.
- List Overview briefings now honor your device language, and unsupported-language errors are surfaced clearly instead of retrying.
- Top Story notification throttle relaxed to 30 minutes.
- Tag inline renames now persist reliably, and Select All on iOS single-panel devices enters edit mode first.
- Time-based tabs (Today, Week) are hidden when your article expiry window would make them redundant.
- New installs default to a 5-day expiry and auto-read on scroll; existing installs keep their current settings.
Fixes
- Fixed a bug where "Mark all archived" articles could reappear as unread after an iCloud or Nearby sync. Archived state is now reasserted after CloudKit imports, and Nearby reconciliation filters out recently-archived items.
- Prevented stale iCloud badge snapshots from being seeded on device.
- Fixed a NearbyHistory crash caused by resolving persistent-history rows that had already been deleted.
- Fixed network decompression memory crashes by removing manual Accept-Encoding headers and using safer buffer handling.
- Numerous small stability, layout, and localization fixes.

### 2.1.0 — 2026-08-03

What's new in this version of Newsbin
Newsbin 2.1 brings new reading modes, a redesigned Settings, dramatically smoother scrolling in large libraries, and important background-refresh and stability fixes.
New
- Reading Modes: Bionic Reading, Dyslexic Mode, and Invert Article Colors, all available in Reading settings.
- Appearance settings: a new panel for accent color and app icon, separate from General.
- Settings redesign: reorganized into 12 focused panels, including new Articles, Notifications, and Data panels; Backups/Import/Sync are now grouped together, and Models fold into Intelligence.
- End-of-list auto-read: when you reach the bottom of an article list, the remaining unread items are queued to be marked read.
- Redeem an offer code from Paywall, Settings, or the debug tools; entitlements refresh immediately on redemption.
- macOS: sidebar and content column widths are now remembered across launches.
Improvements
- Dramatically smoother scrolling in large lists thanks to lazy read/unread computation, an in-place unread-filter fast path, and unread state that's derived from a live query instead of refetched.
- Sidebar feed rows are now their own invalidation boundary, so badge recounts no longer rebuild every row on every scroll batch.
- Kingfisher thumbnail and favicon loads now run disk decode off the main thread, eliminating a common source of scroll hitches.
- Coalesced CloudKit imports and interruptible maintenance sweeps to prevent launch-window hitches.
- Backup encoding, compression, and iCloud writes moved off the main thread.
- AI background scanners now limit backlog work to unread and saved articles to avoid churning large libraries on-device.
- Section Brief now properly builds for tag-based Smart Groups with wide age windows.
- Bookmark actions and tabs are hidden when the Bookmarked tab is disabled.
- New installs default to a 5-day expiry and auto-read on scroll; existing installs keep their current settings.
Fixes
- Restored background feed refresh on iOS: sync tasks are now re-armed on backgrounding, so Top Story and other notifications can actually fire.
- Fixed launch crashes on prewarmed iOS launches by deferring the SwiftData store open until it's needed.
- Fixed lost Top Story notifications caused by cancelling all background task requests instead of just sync.
- Fixed a NearbyHistory crash by resolving persistent history rows via fetch instead of raw model lookup.
- Fixed undeletable "zombie" duplicate tags that shared the same id.
- Fixed a Progress KVO race in Nearby transfers.
- Fixed 0xdead10cc WAL-lock crashes in List Overview reads.
- Various small stability, localization, and settings-navigation fixes.

### 2.0.1 — 2026-07-29

What's new in this version of Newsbin
A follow-up to 2.0 focused on stability, faster scrolling in large lists, better auto-read behavior, and Watch and Widget fixes.
New
- Per-article auto-read on scroll: articles are marked read as they leave the top of your list, with new "Read Above" and "Read Below" swipe actions.
- Preview Top Story notification from Intelligence settings to see exactly how alerts will appear.
- Watch → Phone Smart Group editing: create and edit Smart Groups on the Watch and have them saved back to your library.
- Breaking News now always has content: falls back to a Top Stories rail (newest per source) when embeddings aren't yet available.
Improvements
- Much smoother scrolling in large article lists thanks to lazy Read/Unread computation and a phase-only remap fast path.
- Widget deep-linking is more reliable: article IDs with slashes are properly encoded, and Watch accessory widgets tap through correctly.
- Smart Group badges now respect your tag filters.
- Refresh no longer overwrites AI fields (like summaries) with parser data.
- Single-source Breaking News cards hide the multi-source footer.
- AI summaries are cleaned of hallucinated "Tool Results" transcripts and stray "Summary:" prefixes, and existing summaries are migrated on next maintenance.
Fixes
- Fixed background terminations (0xdead10cc) caused by CloudKit imports during suspension and a duplicate NearbyState created at launch.
- Fixed an out-of-memory crash caused by unbounded gzip buffer growth in the media scanner.
- Fixed iOS launch wiring so notification delegates and the CloudKit guard start reliably.
- Fixed tag edits from the article view that appeared to do nothing (tag saves are now persisted before relist).
- Fixed several small crashes reported from TestFlight builds.
- Fixed iCloud key-value sync round-trip on watchOS.

### 2.0.0 — 2026-07-25

Newsbin 2.0: AI, on your terms.

A major update that adds AI to Newsbin without changing what you love about it. Every AI feature is opt-in, runs on-device with Apple Intelligence (or your own API key), and never routes through our servers. When you're done reading, the AI gets out of the way.

New: For You & discovery
- For You: a personalized feed learned on-device from what you actually read — no ad networks, no algorithmic manipulation.
- Discover: suggested feeds and "Who to Follow" recommendations based on the subscriptions you already have.
- Suggested Feed Preview: try a suggested source before committing.

New: Breaking News & Top Stories
- Breaking News: automatically clusters duplicate coverage of the same event from different outlets into a single story, with sources you can expand.
- Top Stories: a daily digest of the most significant articles across your feeds, with optional notifications when something big breaks.
- Home tab: a single place for Breaking News, Top Stories, and For You.

New: AI reading tools
- Article Summaries: AI-generated abstracts so you can decide what's worth reading in full.
- Section Brief: a read-only overview of any article list, clustered by topic and filterable.
- Smart Tags: automatic topic categorization that plugs into your existing tag and blocklist workflows.
- Topics: extract and filter story threads from any list — no manual setup.

New: Your AI, your choice
- Choose Apple Intelligence, or bring your own API key (Claude and other providers) — everything is opt-in.
- Private Cloud Compute is guarded and controllable per feature.
- Nothing is shared with us.

New: Platform & integration
- Full watchOS support with a redesigned Watch app and reliable snapshot sync.
- Mail-style article windows on macOS with a Reader toolbar.
- New Shortcuts actions, including "Summarize News by Topic."
- Browser chooser with an in-app Safari option.
- Manage Followed (formerly Connection Doctor): diagnose stale feeds and self-heal YouTube channel discovery.

Improvements
- iCloud backups now use LZFSE compression, with automatic detection on read.
- CloudKit schema mismatches surface as a clear "Sync paused" status instead of failing silently.
- Faster on-device AI generation and better clustering thanks to complete-link merging and a discriminative keyword guard.
- Language-aware summarization and natural-language keywording.
- Refined welcome, article, and settings screens across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Vision Pro, and Apple Watch.

Fixes
- Fixed a background crash (0xdead10cc) and switched to a more reliable contextual-first embedding path.
- Prevented deleted follows from reappearing after a feed refresh.
- Resolved SwiftUI presentation and large-title navigation crashes.
- Fixed Watch snapshot sync using transferFile instead of application context.
- Numerous stability, localization, and layout refinements.
