Love this app but am getting frustrated with the inconsistent content loading issues. ### 3/5 — App has stopped working *2026-01-03, version 2.3.11* I have been a Newser fan for years. Even the ads haven’t been as much as a put off to me as other users. But inexplicably the app has stopped working. Says I have to authenticate the internet? And no solutions seem to help. I’m bummed. But frustratingly, New stories are hidden behind images and headlines of sometimes 6 month old stories. I’ve tried everything, uninstalling, clearing catches and cookies. But princes Mako and other old story images with their headlines are on the front page with new stories behind them. And my iPad Pro is new. ### 1/5 — Biased *2022-02-16, version 2.3.11* Use to be a greats source for news. They offered a lot of unusual stories but now seem to be pandering to the left side of news. Seems like they primarily report on conservatives and republicans. As of today, the Hilary Clinton scandal, should be the biggest news but nada. ### 1/5 — The app locks up the phone *2021-11-01, version 2.3.11* I have been a long time user of Newser but its most recent version, or perhaps it’s because I switched to an iPhone 13 pro, locks up frequently. It locks up the entire phone. But they haven’t updated the app in years, and it is now failing to load stories at least 75% of the time. Just errors out. It’s time for me to move on to a different app. I really appreciated the variety and simplicity of Newser, and I think the concept was solid. Less than one star if allowed. ### 1/5 — No longer works *2026-01-08, version 2.3.11* Please fix the app. Keeps saying I have to “verify my session”, then takes me the online version of Newser. ### 1/5 — Bigotry being platformed and on-tap at Newser in the Comments sections for every story. *2026-01-08, version 2.3.11* The Newser app crashes over and over. Some days it doesn’t work all day, then it’ll work again, then it will break again for a day… wash, rinse, repeat. Also, it’s becoming apparent that many stories are now being churned out using AI. Also, the comments sections for the stories are completely overrun with poorly-spelled, obnoxious, ignorant, racist, christian-nationalistic, misogynistic and homophobic creeps who don’t contribute anything to a conversation. These commenters are solely writing things to offend/upset people. And Newser admins do absolutely nothing about it, even when those users are reported… which is a form of supporting such behavior. Platforming soccer-hooligan-style “own the libtards” commentary makes Newser complicit. Sure, they want clicks, and outrage spawns clicks… But come on, Newser. Ban people who are breaking your own rules of engagement, please. It’s sad and vile and greedy, and you should be better than that. For real objective news, I am now using BBC and C-SPAN. Newser is part of the problem. Too bad… it was a convenient format. Now the app is completely non-functional. ### 1/5 — iPad app has annoying bug, please fix. *2025-09-21* I have been the using and enjoying the Newser app for many years. However, the iPad app used on my iPad Air will not hold its place in the news stories list after reading a story. After I read a story and click the back button, it takes me back to the top of the news stories list and I have to scroll down and keep scrolling down and keep scrolling down to get to where I was. Basically it’s so annoying that I don’t want to use the app any more. The app does appear to work correctly on my iPhone and on their website so please fix the iPad app! **Developer response:** Hi there! The ads are everywhere and you try to click them out and it takes you to the website. The iPhone app doesn’t have this problem. I have been using the iPad app and every time after I finished reading an article I would click what I thought was the back button at the top left of the app, but it was taking me to the top of the news list not to where I had scrolled down to in the news list. This for me was very annoying as I had to re-scroll all the way down to where I was in the news list which sometimes required a lot of scrolling and then I had to keep doing this after every article…super annoying. So, if you’re having this problem then read on. Here’s the tip that will make using this iPad app a lot less frustrating: On each article page located at the top left there is a “back arrow” button AND also a “Newser” button. They don’t really look like buttons but they are and they look something like this: < Newser So just click the back arrow button and you’ll go back to where you left off in the news list or click the Newser button and it will take you to the top of the list. Easy enough when you realize they are two different buttons. Also, I found out that you can back swipe(start on left side and swipe toward the right) and it will also take you to your last place in the news list. I hope this helps. I’ve been using the iPhone app for many years and love it and I never had this problem on the iPhone. And that’s because both buttons(or maybe it’s just one big button) on the iPhone app takes you back to where you last were in the news article list. It’s a slight but meaningful difference between the two apps that I think should be standardized to the iPhone app method. I upgrade my star rating to 5 stars but suggest to Newser that they standardize the apps based on the iPhone method as I believe it would result in a lot less frustration for the iPad app users. Personally, I almost uninstalled the iPad app because I was so frustrated. ### 5/5 — Excellent news curation *2023-04-24, version 2.3.11* Best roundup of news stories from any single news source that I’ve used. I periodically try other news apps but Newser is still my #1 go to news app. Tip: turn on your notification “badge” and it will show you the number of new articles since you last used the app. This badge counter saves me time since I don’t have to open the app to check for new articles, and it also serves to alert me to new news. This is my go to news app. Great summaries of all the important stories. Reading the news on this app will jell you up to date on everything that happening in the world.
