### 4/5 — When Apple Watch Widget?!

*2022-08-01, version 10.0.45*

Great app. Sometimes has problems syncing multiple calendars (especially more so when a meeting has been canceled). But really needs an Apple Watch complication!

### 3/5 — Beautiful but buggy

*2021-01-27, version 10.0.45*

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ UX
This app is beautiful and easy to use. The UX is mostly great. Adding events is easy with some nice AI to interpret dates and time to speed up the process.

⭐️⭐️ for bugs
There are several bugs that have persisted for months on end.
Syncing problems: Syncing requires opening the app. I get notifications for events that no longer exist and haven’t for days or weeks. Sometimes canceled or deleted events don’t go away at all.
Setting a location is a feature but somehow has never worked. It will show locations that were added outside of this app, though.

Missing common features:
- Cannot move events between calendars
- Years later, still cannot sync iCloud account

Don’t get me wrong. I have mad respect for the Newton team. I realize Newton has been though rough a rollercoaster ride over the years, shutting down, coming back, and then all over again. I get that the mail app is the core product that should regained lost ground first. But the state this app is in has made it almost unusable compared to the standard iCal app. It’s been almost a year without any updates. The syncing issues are the dealbreaker for me. If I can’t reliably see what’s in my calendar, even after manually syncing from opening the app (as opposed to watching notifications), then I can’t really rely on it to tell me what my day holds. So until this gets revamped, I’m moving back to iCal.

### 2/5 — No Apple Watch app

*2020-05-28, version 10.0.45*

This calendar and the mail app seem fine but they lack an Apple Watch app. I don’t know why I would continue using this without being able to check what my next meeting is on my watch.

### 4/5 — Crashes

*2020-02-03, version 10.0.32*

The app no longer launches. It opens and says please wait, warming up and never launches. Unusable.

### 4/5 — Easy to use

*2019-11-05, version 10.0.32*

Really nice UI, smooth, would be 5 star if let’s you set up auto-conferencing option (google hangouts link)

### 4/5 — App is great. Sadly, no Apple Watch app.

*2019-04-22, version 10.0.14*

This application doesn’t rely on the iOS system to gather it’s data. Therefore, it’s accurate when other apps’ data are stale. I rely on it to be the most up-to-date version of my calendar. The only downside is that there is no Apple Watch app. I hope it gets added soon!

### 3/5 — Needs more views.

*2019-03-27, version 10.0.14*

One single thing that makes calendar apps great, is the ability to view your appointments and days in different views. Something Newton lacks.

A list view of all upcoming appointments for the next week, 30 days and year would be amazing. But right now, Newton isn’t useable. There are too many other better calendars out there.

As for mail. Newton does mail right.

### 3/5 — Glad Newton is back, but...

*2019-02-07, version 10.0.11*

Can we please get a watch complication? I'm a paid (again) subscriber of Newton and choose to stay within your family of apps, but using your new source of funds to further development of the calendar app (Mac support?) would be a great move for long-time supporters.

### 2/5 — Good potential, lacking execution

*2018-03-20, version 9.8.172*

Nice design, but lacking in execution. The colors of my calendars are nowhere near the same as they are on all of my other calendars. Just let the user set their own colors. Problem solved. Also, calendar invites in Newton do not seem to work and open up this calendar app anymore. More frequent updates might be nice. Also, it would be great if you let your users know what features you’re working on, what is planned, and what has been completed. We do pay for a subscription, so not keeping your users in the dark would be great!

### 2/5 — It keep crashing on my iPad Pro

*2018-03-09, version 9.8.172*

The app works ok on my phone, but on when I open the calendar on my iPad Pro it crashes after a few seconds. I have updated to IOS 11.2.6. I love the email app and hope they can get the calendar up to the same standards we have come to expect.

### 2/5 — Warming up

*2018-01-31, version 9.8.172*

Hi, you’ve been warming up for more than 24 hours now. I need access to my carefully-scheduled life, you know.

### 4/5 — Great start

*2018-01-23, version 9.8.143*

I need a search function. Love everything else.

### 4/5 — App keeps crashing

*2018-01-06, version 9.8.143*

The Newton calendar app keeps crashing (I can’t actually use it.)

Update: I give it more stars now, the app now isn’t crashing and is working great.

### 3/5 — Needs IOS & Newton Mail integration

*2017-12-20, version 9.8.143*

Needs integration with:

- Apple calendar and reminders
- Newton Email (companion)

### 1/5 — Problem

*2017-12-19, version 9.8.143*

I do not want a program where I have to sign in. There should be a way to have a program without signing into something.
I delete all that asks one to sign in....

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Doesn’t have support for iCloud or Outlook Calendars.

*2022-01-16, version 10.0.45*

I use Fantastical/Flexbits but I wanted to take a look at Newton Calendar to try and consolidate my spending each year.

I use iCloud for my calendar and it isn’t supported. Says in the FAQ “coming soon” but that could mean anything.

1 star for being available on Apple and not accepting/utilizing iCloud Calendar. App looks nice and I’m sure it functions ok but I can’t use it.

### 1/5 — Rarely works

*2021-08-12, version 10.0.45*

Terrible now. App hasn’t updated in a year. Won’t refresh. Stay away

### 1/5 — Unethical, repeatedly price gouge

*2020-10-06, version 10.0.45*

Purchased a recurring subscription on sale, advertised as being for-life. Newton then decided to "shut-down" for a month and then relaunch and not honor that deal because it had "shut-down". Highly deceptive and unethical business practice that shows they don't care at all about their early loyal users or to adhere to offers they've made.

### 1/5 — Crashes constantly

*2020-02-28, version 10.0.45*

I paid for subscription and at first couldn’t be happier. As time went on the app keeps crashing and doesn’t send out the invites to attendees when it does my notes in the invite get sent out as gibberish . Regret paying for the app

### 1/5 — Still needs a lot of work

*2019-02-22, version 10.0.14*

This is a nicely designed app. I downloaded it due to already using Newton. But this app lacks a weekly or monthly view. There are already much more functional calendar apps on the market. This app needs some serious work. Now that Newton is back perhaps they will be able to develop this app to be more functional.

### 1/5 — Missing key features

*2018-07-19, version 9.8.367*

I know that desired features are subjective, but many key features are missing from this app. To me this is unacceptable when the app exists behind a subscription pay wall.

The app has only one view, and it’s a schedule view. This view makes it really tough to see when you’re double booked or how much free time you have between events.

The calendar indicators aren’t prominent enough. I’m talking about the colored dots that indicate to which calendar an event belongs. It’s hard to see, at a glance, when an event belongs to me or another team calendar that I monitor.

The “notes” section truncated Google calendar invites that contain Meet or Hangout video conference details. The stock iOS calendar app includes them. The net effect is that I can’t join Google video conferences from this app. This is a significant hinderance.

Finally, there’s no visual indicator to show where you are in your day chronologically. Just now I launched the app at 9:51 and it started in the morning of the current day. That’s annoying.

All of these result in a huge miss for me and add to the growing list of Newton releases that add no value, in my opinion.

### 1/5 — Needs major work

*2018-06-05, version 9.8.302*

This could be a great calendar app with some simple updates. The biggest is a smart date and location recognition feature. There are too many steps to entering a calendar event. Because of this and the constant app crashes, it gets 1 star. Just by adding the smart recognition, it would
Boost this app to 4 stars. Really disappointed considering the Newton mail app is amazing. Looks like they put all of their time and resources into the mail app and not the calendar.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback. Please write to us at hello@newtonhq.com, we will answer all your queries and investigate the crash issue.

### 1/5 — Crashes!

*2018-04-28, version 9.8.302*

Calendar app crashes when hitting plus/add calendar event button. Thinking I’ll just use the standard IOS calendar. Disappointed

### 1/5 — Crashes as soon as you go to settings

*2018-02-04, version 9.8.172*

And yes I’m on the latest version of iOS. The developer said it would be fixed “in the next update” on December 13. The most recent update was January 28th. It’s ridiculous this isn’t fixed.

### 1/5 — Fail

*2017-12-19, version 9.8.143*

I had high hopes for this calendar since I'm very happy with the email app. Let's start with the app icon. It's terrible and doesn't look anything like what a calendar icon I feel should look like. For sure it looks ridiculous on my home screen.

The calendar itself is hard to work with. To add an event requires multiple steps and the location feature isn't intuitive. It appears to be only Google based and locations thousands of miles away will show up instead or narrowing the list to somewhere close to where I am.

With so many calendar apps available, this one doesn't bring anything new to the table. If I'm willing to choose the stock Apple calendar over this one, it must be pretty plain and unimpressive.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Warming up. Please wait...

*2020-11-20, version 10.0.45*

I never made it past that loading screen. I waited and waited and waited and waited but it never opened.

### 5/5 — Solid Calendar App That Does The Basics Well

*2018-04-20, version 9.8.302*

I love that i don’t have to rely on fetch for my Google calendar updates. It’s a downside of many calendar apps on iOS that rely on system settings that no longer allow google push notifications, this app navigates around that problem beautifully.

I’m also very fond of the UI! At first it struck me as simple, but the more I used it I realized it added a beauty and elegance to its design. The fully expanded widget is my favorite calendar widget I’ve used on iOS.

I’ve seen some say they don’t like the icon because it doesn’t look like a calendar app. I think the newton mail app and the calendar app side by side complement each other and add a sense of continuity between them. It makes me happy that they are two separate apps so they can brighten up my home screen like that!

There is always room for improvement in any app. The one thing I would suggest presently is the ability to set custom notification times within the app and not just from the drop down of preselected options. But overall keep up the great work!

### 5/5 — Awesome

*2017-12-14, version 9.8.135*

Not only is this an awesome cakendar, but ilove the detail you guys put into having the two app icons work cohensivly. Had to rearrange my home screen. Was worth it, would do again. 5/5

### 5/5 — Keeps crashing

*2017-12-14, version 9.8.135*

Finally, much needed app but it keeps crashing. I have Office 365 account that I use from work and it pulls in all the events but when I scroll through the events, it keeps crashing.

Update : After updating to latest iOS version, the app is stable. Thanks for taking care of this.

**Developer response:** Please make sure you're using iOS 11.2, since 11.1 has some issues where 3rd party apps just keep crashing. Write to us at hello@newtonhq.com if the issue persists even after updating the iOS.

### 5/5 — Crashes but has potential

*2017-12-12, version 9.8.135*

This app crashes every time I open it and tap the setting button. I have already turned my phone off and on, which typically fixes crashes if they ever happen. The developers probably need to release an update fixing the crash and once they do, this app will be great! Wishing it worked with the Apple calendar (considering it’s on iOS).

**Developer response:** Sorry for the hassle! The crash will be fixed in the next update.

### 5/5 — Wonderful!

*2017-12-12, version 9.8.135*

I've been looking for a calendar companion to the mail app. And they've delivered a beautiful substitute to Apple's. So far, it plays nicely with my Gmail and company exchange email. I cannot complain!

Now, if they implement a clean dark mode for both suites, they'll have a user for life!

Keep it up!

### 5/5 — Great companion to Newton Mail!

*2017-12-12, version 9.8.135*

This app is wonderful if you’re a fan of Newton Mail. It’s clearly in its early stages, but it’s off to a great start. A must-have if you like to keep a clean and organized calendar.

### 5/5 — Can’t figure out how to confirm my meeting attendance.

*2017-12-11, version 9.8.135*

Solves many other problems though - looking forward to seeing future updates.

### 5/5 — Great

*2017-12-11, version 9.8.135*

Works perfectly for me. Great alternative to Apple's calendar or the sometimes messy Google calendar. Love that it syncs my Exchange account with my Google account. Love Newton mail, and this goes really well with it.

### 4/5 — Decent

*2023-01-18, version 10.0.45*

I like the clean interface but it’s use is very limited for me. For example, even as I’m typing this review, it’s got a glitch and is showing white text on a white background. So I can’t actually see what I’m typing. This sort of thing happens occasionally in this app. Sometimes an input box will fail to show up so I have to go back and then reselect the notes or whatever so that it reloads the screen and hopefully shows the input. Also, it’s especially limited because only gmail and exchange calendars show, so my subscribed calendars and iOS calendars aren’t visible in this app. Promising but limited for me.
