## What is Next Chapter Reading Log?

Next Chapter learns your taste in books, then tells you what to read next.

Import your ratings from Goodreads or The StoryGraph, or your loan history from Libby, the library app. The app walks you through the export on your phone, no computer needed, and your shelves arrive with covers, synopses and crowd ratings already filled in.

Then rate what you read with four honest verdicts: Ugh, Good, Great, Mind Blown. Once you have rated about 40 books, Next Chapter builds a taste model that is yours alone, and every unread book gets a prediction: how you'll feel about it, and how confident the model is.

WHAT YOU GET FREE
• Your whole library, with real cover artwork
• One-tap import from Goodreads, The StoryGraph and Libby
• Search millions of books and add them to a shelf
• Four-verdict emoji ratings, notes, and favorites
• Per-book taste predictions, the heart of the app
• The For You feed: every unread book ranked by how much you'll like it
• Reading Insights: your verdict mix, books by year, top authors, genres and series, and the books where you disagree with the crowd
• Your year in books: every book you finished, your verdicts, your top authors and the one you loved most
• Automatic iCloud sync across your iPhone and iPad
• No ads, no accounts, no tracking

WIDGETS
• Currently Reading, on your Home Screen or Lock Screen: your Reading shelf with covers and the day you're on, and a tap opens the book
• This Year: the books you've finished this year, against this time last year
Both free, and they update on their own.

NEXT CHAPTER PLUS (one purchase, yours forever)
• Bookish themes: three more book-cloth color schemes
• Backup and export your library, ratings and notes to a file

Your library stays on your device and in your own iCloud. Nothing is uploaded to us, because there is no us to upload it to.

From the makers of How To Movie and How To TV, the same taste engine, pointed at your bookshelf.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.5 — 2026-10-06

Two widgets, for your Home Screen and your Lock Screen.

• Currently Reading: the books on your Reading shelf, with their covers and how many days you've been reading each one. The medium size shows three, and tapping a book opens it.
• This Year: how many books you've finished this year and, once you have a year behind you, how that compares with this time last year. The medium size adds covers of your latest finishes.

They keep up on their own, so the day count moves on overnight without opening the app. Both are free.

### 1.4 — 2026-10-04

A fix for books that showed up twice.

When iCloud caught up between your devices, a book you had added on both could appear in your library twice. Next Chapter now finds those copies and merges them into one, keeping the copy you added first. Your rating, the furthest shelf you reached, both sets of notes, favorites and dates all carry over, so nothing you wrote is lost.

Sorry if you saw double. Happy reading.

### 1.3 — 2026-10-01

Your year in books, now told in pictures. Your covers fill the screen: a wall of every book you finished, each month stacked with its books, and your top authors front and center with their covers. New insights show how often we predicted your verdict, the books you rated far from other readers, how this year compares with your usual and with last year, and your longest book on a shelf of the whole year. Find it on For You.

### 1.2 — 2026-09-29

Your year in books. See every book you finished in 2026, month by month, with the pages you read, the one you loved most, your top authors and the genres you lived in. Then share it as a card made from your year alone, with no book covers. Find it on For You once you've finished a book this year, and look back at earlier years from there.

Links to your year in books open straight to it, too.

### 1.1 — 2026-09-23

Import your reading history from Libby. Your library loans come across as books you have read, with the dates, ready to rate.

Also fixed: exports saved with Windows line endings failed to import at all. Any export that would not open before should work now.
