What’s the point of keeping a car on the platform that stays “deactivated”. Just remove the car. I don’t want to see it on the app. Having a bunch of deactivated cars on your apps interface makes it look trashy. ### 2/5 — Not for Rental Cars *2025-07-25, version 3.0.11* Do not use this app for a rental car if there is any chance you will be turning in the car early. There is no option to stop the tolls from being charged to your rental vehicle is you don’t edit the return time 24 hours in advance. So…..if you finish your day early and take an earlier flight, the next person to use your rental car will have their tolls charged to your account up until the termination time you entered on the app when you first rented the vehicle. You cannot edit the return time or delete the vehicle from your account. When I inquired about this, they said I should have read the fine print. Total scammy rip off!!! ### 1/5 — Won’t work with HOV *2024-08-08, version 3.0.5* While all the good things they mention about this app are true, they failed to mention this app won’t work with HOV - meaning you’ll still be charged full toll price even when you have required minimum number of passengers in car. 1 star rating for failing to mention this basic rule that it won’t work with HOV which needlessly ended up costing me $12.84. ### 1/5 — Super convenient app! *2023-10-24, version 1.1.1* This app has been a huge lifesaver recently when driving in Virginia - I recently bought a second car and didn’t want to deal with a transponder; only an hour before I realized I’d be on a toll road I was able to register my car in about a minute. My tolls were paid automatically and posted the next day - no confusion on how much I paid, no annoying bills in the mail. Love it. ### 1/5 — Cannot sign up or login *2023-10-02, version 1.1.0* Deleted and re-downloaded many times but not working ### 1/5 — Does not work *2023-06-06, version 1.0.52* I have had this app and used it to go through toll in North Carolina and got a bill in the mail. I have emailed NextPass no avail, and I can’t see when I went through tolls or where I went through them do not download it does not work ### 1/5 — Only one state! Fees?!! *2023-02-19, version 1.0.26* Give me a break. Only Virginia? Get real. Ezpass is free and in 20 states. Rather have a transponder. States that scan lic plates are also using Ezpass so its still better that Nextpass. This us a joke. NextPass applies a 15% processing fee to the toll amount that includes the passthrough fees from our payment service providers and credit card merchants. Additionally, NextPass applies the processing fees charged by the state toll agencies. It gets worse Please note, however, that the app is not supported at the Dulles Greenway, the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, and RMTA´s toll facilities that are not open road tolling such as the Boulevard Bridge. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Scam *2026-06-17, version 4.0.1* Why am i being charged and asked for payment methods and im not getting any information about any tolls that i have ### 1/5 — Can’t Trust w/Rental *2026-06-16, version 4.0.1* Got charged for my tolls and hit with a $30 administrative fee from the rental company. After chatting with NextPass support, they admitted that sometimes this can happen and there’s nothing they can do about it. They assured me that I would not be charged again by them, but that’s not the point. I would have paid for the rental company’s toll pass to avoid paying the excessive administration fees from the rental company if I had known there was an opportunity for a very expensive glitch like this. NextPass should be more upfront in their FAQs and their general information and instruction about using the service. It is NOT a guarantee that your toll will be charged by NextPass and not your rental company in which case you will accrue major fees. I kind of feel like NextPass owes me that $30 admin fee. ### 1/5 — No reason to get Next Pass *2026-06-07, version 4.0.1* You can just drive through the same tolls and pay online. NextPass does not even work on gated tolls so you still have to use your credit card to raise the gate. ### 1/5 — Over 100+ FRAUDULENT charges from tolls in states that I nor my vehicle have never been in! *2026-04-18, version 4.0.1* I've called every hour for over 4 days and there has never been an available customer service rep to talk to, no one's replied to emails and no one's reached out! Nextpass is the ONLY app/website that I have linked both my credit card & my vehicles plate number so this massive fraud must be on YOUR end. I activated the rental car tag and made sure there was no transponder in the car. I got a huge bill from the rental car company for unpaid tolls. They charge about 15% for the service, but I think it’s worth it, because I don’t have to deal with the terrible state-run toll payment systems, which are truly terrible in most states. I can now remove my transponder and forget about my account balance, tag replacements or other oldfashion payment methods such as “pay by mail”. The app is very user-friendly, you just add your credit card details and it detects when you drive through a toll road to charge the exact toll rate. All my toll trips were accurately display on the “recent activity tab” and they are easy to track.
