## What is nGeneTime?

nGeneTime combines three complementary experiences: a kinetic desk clock, a solar-term-based perpetual calendar with Four Pillars (四柱), and time-based line casting for The Book of Change (周易).

iPhone

• Landscape: A kinetic desk clock with magnetic motion and hourglass-style disappearance effects that visualize the flow of time.
• Portrait: A perpetual calendar with lunar dates, day pillars, current Four Pillars, solar-term transitions, date-selectable hour-pillar tables, and Zhouyi line casting.

Home Screen widgets

Three widgets provide calendar and pillar information without opening the app:

• Calendar: The current month, lunar dates, day pillars, and the applicable solar-term boundary.
• Four Pillars: The current hour, day, month, and year pillars.
• Hour Pillars: All twelve hour-pillar intervals, with the current interval highlighted.

Widget calculations follow the time zone and calculation mode selected in nGeneTime. Longitude correction is used when that mode is selected and valid location data is available.

Solar-term-based year and month pillars

Year and month pillars do not change at ordinary Gregorian boundaries.

• The year pillar changes at the Beginning of Spring (立春), rather than January 1.
• The month pillar changes at the applicable monthly solar-term boundary, rather than the first day of the Gregorian month.
• Year-pillar information, month-pillar transitions, and the applicable solar term are shown on separate lines.
• The local date and time of each solar-term boundary are displayed.
• The solar-term boundary date is highlighted in blue and uses the standard green appearance when selected.

Day and hour pillars continue according to their established calculation rules. Solar-term transition times follow the selected time zone, while longitude correction is applied specifically to hour-pillar boundaries.

Longitude-corrected pillar time

Standard clock time is based on a time-zone reference meridian. nGeneTime can apply a longitude-based correction relative to that meridian, providing a location-specific basis for determining hour-pillar boundaries.

The Book of Change (周易)

From the portrait calendar, open a full-screen line-casting interface and cast one line at a time. Each cast uses the hundredth-second value of the running timer: an odd value creates a whole line, and an even value creates a broken line. Six lines form a set, and multiple sets can be reviewed.

This feature focuses on line casting and visual review. It does not reproduce a complete digital edition, translation, commentary, or interpretation of the Zhouyi.

Apple Watch

The companion Apple Watch app provides:

• Current time and Four Pillars
• Solar-term-based year and month pillars
• Optional longitude-corrected pillar time when location is available
• Monthly calendar with pillar information
• Selected-date hour pillars
• An integrated timer with immediate-start presets, custom durations from 1 to 180 minutes, remaining-time progress, and selectable single, double, or rapid vibration patterns
• Circular and corner complications showing the current day and hour pillars; while the timer is active, the complication also shows countdown information and the remaining-time proportion

Privacy

Location access is optional and is used only to calculate longitude-corrected pillar time. Precise Core Location coordinates are processed locally. If Core Location is unavailable, the app may request an approximate IP-based location from a network service.

No account is required. nGeneTime does not use information for advertising or cross-app tracking.

nGeneTime presents traditional temporal frameworks through a clear, modern interface.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.7 — 2026-08-05

Version 1.7 adds new iPhone widgets and an expanded Apple Watch timer experience.

• Three Home Screen widgets are now available:
  – Calendar: current month, lunar dates, day pillars, and the solar-term boundary
  – Four Pillars: current hour, day, month, and year pillars
  – Hour Pillars: all twelve intervals, with the current interval highlighted
• Widgets follow the time zone and calculation mode selected in nGeneTime, including longitude correction when valid location data is available.
• Apple Watch now includes a timer with immediate-start presets for 1, 3, 5, 10, 15, 20, and 30 minutes, plus 1 and 2 hours.
• Custom timer durations from 1 to 180 minutes are supported.
• A remaining-time bar, countdown, restart, and stop controls have been added.
• Single, double, and rapid vibration patterns can be selected and previewed.
• Circular and corner complications continue to show the current day and hour pillars. While a timer is active, they also display countdown information and visualize the remaining-time proportion.
• Shared timer state and widget/complication refresh behavior have been improved.

### 1.6 — 2026-07-31

Version 1.6 improves the calculation and presentation of year and month pillars.

• Year pillars now change at the Beginning of Spring (立春) boundary rather than January 1.
• Month pillars now change at the applicable monthly solar-term boundary rather than the first day of the Gregorian month.
• The calendar now presents year-pillar information, month-pillar transitions, and the solar term on three separate lines.
• The local date and time of each solar-term boundary are displayed.
• Solar-term boundary dates are highlighted in blue.
• A selected solar-term boundary date continues to use the existing green selection appearance.
• The same solar-term basis is applied to current year and month pillars on Apple Watch.
• Existing day-pillar, hour-pillar, longitude-correction, desk-clock, and Zhouyi line-casting behavior is preserved.

### 1.5 — 2026-07-21

Version 1.5 adds The Book of Change (周易), a full-screen, time-based line-casting experience available from the portrait calendar.

• Cast one line at a time using the running timer's hundredth-second value
• Odd values create whole lines; even values create broken lines
• Review each six-line set in a clear visual layout
• Return directly to the calendar with its current state preserved

The landscape desk clock, portrait calendar, Apple Watch app, and complication continue to work as before.

### 1.4 — 2026-06-13

Version 1.4 improves the iPhone portrait calendar experience.

• Added selectable date-based Hour Pillars (時柱) below the main Four Pillars display
• Improved the monthly calendar layout for more efficient vertical space usage
• Made calendar pillar characters easier to read with stronger visual emphasis
• Refined month navigation with larger, more reliable controls
• Improved the default calendar background visibility setting for better readability
• Updated the initial portrait view position to focus on the calendar section more directly

This update preserves the existing landscape kinetic desk clock, longitude-corrected time calculation, Apple Watch app, and circular complication behavior.

### 1.3 — 2026-05-12

Version 1.3 adds Apple Watch complication support.

• Added a small circular Apple Watch complication
• Shows today’s day pillar and current hour pillar
• Uses longitude-corrected time when location-based correction is available
• Falls back to time-zone based calculation when location is unavailable
• Improved Apple Watch real-time access to pillar information
