### 4/5 — Memory Out of Control

*2022-12-03, version 2.14.30*

I enjoy the mechanics and collecting all the things, and the overall look of the game. However the memory is a bit out of control. The further in the game you go the more memory it takes. The App Store has it listed as the size of the game at around 500mb, currently though for me it is up to 5.5 gb. I wish there was a way to optimize it to reduce that, like remove old cut scenes or remove old story clips. It is getting to the point where this game will be deleted just so I can get back space

### 4/5 — Great but needs some changes

*2022-09-29, version 2.12.1*

I’ve been a fan of the Nier series for a couple fl years now. And I have to say this game does a great job of keeping the same dark tone of the others in the series. And although the story is good, the combat itself isn’t the best. There’s really no interaction between you and the enemy aside from pressing your same 3 buttons in succession. The only time I felt like this battle system could have work was during the XIV event where you need to use your movement to avoid getting one-shot which was great. Please keep in mind not everyone wants to mindlessly auto-battle after getting characters that they’ve wanted for a while. Other than than I can see this game doing very well in the future.

### 4/5 — Great so far but…

*2022-09-15, version 2.12.1*

I desperately want to like this game, and I do when I can play it, but it’s getting kind of frustrating when it crashes 2-3 times every time I load it up.

I’m a big fan of the NieR series and when I heard this was a sequel to Automata I immediately went to download it. I’m not super far into the game, but I’m enjoying the story so far. The music, which has always been a staple of the series, is great as usual, and I’m surprised the game’s graphics are as good as they are, considering this is a mobile game. The gacha mechanics aren’t… great, but it isn’t necessary to enjoy the game. The P5R event is happening right now though, and I just don’t see how I can get the characters I want without spending money. So the gacha doesn’t seem very f2p friendly, but it seems to be a mechanic you can largely ignore. The combat isn’t anything complicated but it’s interesting enough to keep you engaged.

Overall, I think so far I can recommend this game if you’re coming here for more NieR lore. Go ahead and give it a shot.

### 3/5 — Amazing game but…..

*2022-09-02, version 2.11.30*

The stories are so good, the game play is so good, everything about this game is great, the only issue is there is something wrong with the server. They do not do updates on the game very often. At launch the game force closes at start up so you have to launch the game at least 3-4 times before you actually get in. This is so annoying some days I don’t even play this game because I am tired of reloading the game 4 times before I get in….this issues has been going on since launch and has yet to be fixed. It’s been over a year. Another indication of the lack of improvement in this game is the lottery system. This game used to have a lottery system for gems and other things but they took it down after a few months because it was buggy. This system has been gone for almost a year with no word to fixing it. So what I am saying is there is some good and some bad. Developers need to pay more attention to this game and fix the bugs. If they do then this is a 5* game.

### 3/5 — Not my favorite SE Title

*2022-08-19, version 2.11.0*

As someone who plays a lot of games by Square Enix I was disappointed by this one. I was additionally disappointed because I am such a huge fan of Nier Automata. I was actually deeply anticipating this game. The characters are lackluster imo, the grayscale is very bland, the combat is the most tedious and unsatisfying thing I’ve ever encountered on a mobile game. I am also just not into games that are novels and you have to read to enjoy/play the game. This was not a good title for me. That being said, I know there are people who do enjoy visual novels like these so I won’t be giving this game a 2*. Also, the game is overall very sound technically and is well put together so that prevented me from giving this game a 1*. In sum, this was a bad game for me but I’m sure graphic novel enjoyers will like this.

### 4/5 — Story vs Combat

*2022-06-05, version 2.8.10*

This game has me on the fence if I love it and I kinda wanna delete it. When it comes to story it’s so unique and different. I love the way the stories are told and how you hop in to fix them. 6/5 on that front.

The combat on the other hand…not my cup of tea. The graphics are beautiful and the choreography is astounding, but the lack of control has me bothered. I can activate the abilities, yes, however moving around doesn’t do much for combat, and I just have to sit and watch my character do nothing every few seconds until I can click a button. I just feel like I’m not actually playing the game, so 3/5 on that.

As for the f2p vs p2p, I really didn’t bother with the gacha with this game, didn’t seem worth it.

When all is said and done, it’s a good game and I would suggest to anyone who asks about it, but the selling point to me is the story and not the combat. Like I said, I don’t feel like I’m playing the game when I’m combat, 4/5 overall

### 3/5 — Above average but disappointing

*2022-02-18, version 2.4.0*

I’m a huge fan of the NieR/Drag On Dragoon (Drakengard) franchise, in particular Automata. With this being touted as a direct sequel to the aforementioned game, it creates high expectations. Although it is better than most gacha games, that’s not saying much. It being a game from a Yoko Taro-san series, I expected it would be truly transformative in a mobile gaming world that seems to be a pathetic race to the lowest common denominator of mobile games all in the name of corporate greed. 1. It should have been sold like it’s pay once Final Fantasy (FF) games 2. If they insisted on a turn based system then make it at least up to par with its FF combat system. Sadly, it doesn’t even match up to rpg battle systems like Phantasy Star from the 80’s. It’s not from a lack of mobile graphics capabilities. 3. It really should have been the Automata of Genshin Impact and retained it’s open world action adventure qualities without the gacha mechanics. If I was Square Enix I’d do what they did with FF XI and go back and make a worthy game like FF XIV was. This time maybe include Yoko Taro’s input more.

### 4/5 — Made for narrative enjoying NieR fans

*2021-09-26, version 1.6.21*

I’ve had a chance to play this game for awhile now, and there are certain aspects that completely impress and others that could use some work. First of all, the visuals and aesthetics of this game are unmatched on the mobile platform. The world building, character designs, and character narratives go beyond what is to be expected for a game of this platform.

That being said, the story and design elements are obviously the primary focus of the studio that is producing this game. Because of this, actual gameplay suffers from being repetitive and grinding/farming intensive. Don’t get me wrong, I like the gameplay; but there is little to keep me immersed and I usually end up playing through all the battles on fast mode with ‘auto’ enabled. I think the turn-based gameplay mechanics need tweaking to encourage more strategy beyond aspects that are adjusted during the loadout phase.

Overall, this game is enticing, entertaining and a refreshing take on the gacha mobile game formula. If you are a fan of the NieR franchise this game will be even more appealing to you due to the frequent crossover events and familiar design elements. But, if you like intense, immersive and involved gameplay experiences I would look elsewhere.

### 3/5 — Just an Animated Story Plus Some

*2021-09-11, version 1.6.2*

Its Square Enix so expect to be amazed by a beautiful story and high end graphics. If you’re a NieR fan then this game will be in your ballpark. However, the user interaction is extremely bad. You do absolutely nothing in this game but mediocre functions. Its purely story based and is aimed at fans of the genre. The Gacha rate seems to be pretty bad too since Character & Equipment is grouped together in the same pool. Games like these I would usually avoid since they are intended to be more of a cash grab and left in the backburner to be forgotten or abandoned. If it wasn’t a Square Enix game I’d have given up already but the art put into both drawing and story seems top notch. Will continue to play to see if it improves. You’ll get bored quick though if you’re not into these slow paced games. Hardly anything to do, lol.

This game should’ve been open world concept since NieR franchise has so much potential to be more.

### 3/5 — Great story and music but that’s about it

*2021-09-07, version 1.6.1*

The game has very beautiful music and story, but the mechanics of the game is very boring. The characters automatically attack the npcs and all you have to do is use character skills when they’re available… so there isnt much to do other than sit and watch the battles. There are event missions where you need to collect coins to exchange for limited time items in the shop. You can set the missions to repeat automatically 10 but it be so much better if you just instantly get the materials for 10 runs rather than be unable to use your phone until those 10 run completes…. And drain your battery. The game is worth playing for the story but because there’s not much to do other than grind to collect the characters like every typical gacha game

### 3/5 — Good story, auto gacha, 2% rate

*2021-08-27, version 1.6.1*

Story is nicely written and the character models very nice. Not quite a good casual gacha though as you need some grind to progress in everything including story. Battle is active auto attack with an option to auto skills too. There are no skip tickets, just phone screen on farming that you have to run the whole day to farm ALL EVENTS. Gems are pretty easy to get in beginning and you only need 200 pulls to spark although regular pull rates are low. Like really low and you NEED DUPES to make most characters useful or you farm a monthly tower event to get dupe materials that count as 1 full dupe.

I do not recommend this if you work full-time or cannot run your phone on the whole day.

### 3/5 — EN Gacha rates reduced by half

*2021-08-21, version 1.6.1*

I’ve been playing the JP version of this game since it launched and through the banners I’ve never had a problem getting something worthwhile, at least one purple(weapon or character) within 10 rolls. The 4* rates in JP are 4% not 2%. So far in over 200 rolls, I’ve gotten four 4* weapons and one 4* character, plus a pity character. In comparison, in the JP version I’ve gotten 12! 4* weapons and maybe six 4* characters in the same amount of time, making building a party I like easier to assemble and build. I have built up only 1 character on EN version and that’s the A2 event character.

Additionally they have added a get(a tiny amount of) gems in exchange for watching a minute long video. The time wasted watching the video is not worth it personally since most time you’re gonna land on the 10 gem one.

Gameplay is the same in both versions, which is why I’m giving this a 3 rating. Predatory gacha practices when being localized for the West always ends up being put in. Then the game fails within 6 months here. It’s ridiculous.

### 3/5 — Trash Event Summon Rates

*2021-08-21, version 1.6.1*

Tells you everything you need to know. Considering my last review seems to have been deleted, here we are again. Event summon rates are absolutely garbage. You need to pull 200 times (or 20 10x pulls) to get enough required tokens to get an event character; which you will have to do. The rates are such trash that it’s unlikely that you will get even one in those 200 tries… and that’s with 4 possible event characters!

How does that sound reasonable? How does that encourage you to put money into the game? Honestly, I’m discouraged from buying any game currency, or bundles, knowing that the game is so abysmally stacked against players. The kicker? Every event banner has it’s own currency, so you can’t even earn towards a character across banners. That’s 200 pulls per banner to earn ONE CHARACTER PER BANNER!

This a decent enough game, but it doesn’t deserve your monetary support. Not if it continues to promote such anti-consumer behavior.

### 4/5 — Very good with a couple issues…

*2021-08-13, version 1.5.7*

The game is brilliant I can see it that much there are a few things that are slightly annoying one is a gameplay aspect Where are the auto Lock Screen will trigger When in some other games it doesn’t trigger from what I know.

Another is even though the game is in landscape mode (phone held sideways) there is a glitch where it suddenly flips to portrait mode and then the hud and menus are all messed up.

The last thing is more Of a peeve of mine which is that the limit for the auto battle option should be more than 10.

### 3/5 — Affordable and accessibility

*2021-08-09, version 1.5.7*

Overall the game has been fun but it’s missing quite a few things. I understand that the game’s design has a certain theme to it, but it’s really hard to identify the difference between a lot of the similar items.

For example memoirs, there’s a slight difference in border color to show the difference in grade but otherwise all the images are the same. The white text over a light background- also hard to read or for Weapons - can’t tell which one has been ascended or not

Not a lot of explanation for how certain things work- again memoirs, I see that there’s a connecting light when using the same set, but I can’t identify the stat difference or how/why it’s better to use the same set. I’m not sure where the explanation would either.

So far- it’s a new game so I understand there will be some kinks to figure out, but from a CX and UX standpoint; this game will be hard for people who have any form of visual impairment. There’s alot of visual affordable missing and for someone who doesn’t have any color or contrast impairment- it’s even difficult for me.

### 3/5 — Story is ok, gameplay is a bit boring

*2021-08-08, version 1.5.7*

The theme of exploring weapon stories is cool and seeing stories playout is really neat. But the “game” part is really boring since for the most part you can put it on Auto and the game plays itself. The auto feature is mostly useful because you will have to grind a lot, and sit through 10-15min of auto play per round for your grinding. Since the story is stronger than the gameplay, this would have been better if it was not a game but an short story anime or something. But since it is a game some QoL improvements at minimum would be, not sending back to title screen if stamina is full and you try to send/receive stamina from friends. If a level/battle has already been completed auto should just auto complete the battles; should not have to sit through 10–15 minutes of having to watch each battle play until you run out of stamina. Adjust material and stamina requirements, grind is fine but the price of some upgrade materials is too much. Only with half stamina events does it make it easier to grind for things you need. And since you have to mostly auto play they really need to implement a way for the screen to stay on instead of defaulting to your phones auto screen off. So many other game apps override the settings to keep the screen on, but you have adjust your auto lock settings.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Disgrace to the NieR franchise

*2022-01-02, version 2.2.10*

This is one of the most greedy, low effort games I’ve ever played. Gacha fames in general are disgustingly predatory, but this game is worse because it actually tries to attach itself to the NieR series which is actually amazing. On top of that, the game is just the most boring, tedious, and horribly balanced games I’ve ever had the displeasure of playing. I can’t wait to see this game fail and be shut down due to low engagement.

I’ve never seen a game get deserted by it’s player base so quickly. Lots of NieR fans were hesitant about a gacha game to begin with, but even the ones who tried it quit. It’s like every 2 weeks my entire friends list on this game stops playing permanently. It’s a testament to how bad this game is.

This could have been a truly great game if it never got twisted into a mobile gacha game. The music is amazing as always, and the stories and very good despite being told through such a terrible medium (Mobile gacha games).

Square Enix is scum, through and through. They release broken PC ports regularly and never fix them. They try to rip every penny from their customers wallet, and are willing to disgrace and ruin franchises to do so. They are even beginning to e corporate cryptocurrencies and NFTs into their games. Good luck with that Square Enix. I hope you enjoy ruining truly beautiful works of art for your own personal wealth.

### 1/5 — Thought game was good but went south!

*2021-08-07, version 1.5.7*

I thought it was a beautifully made game. The music, atmosphere and game play were pretty solid. So I invested in the 48hour pack for $25 after that went through the game crashed. Which the game has crashed on occasion so I thought it wasn’t a big deal. I go to start the game back up it starts up a new game. I exit and I had linked my account to Facebook so I should have been good, I was wrong instead a different account not mine pops up and it now seems I have lost 25 dollars and my account I reach out to company 4times and have yet been giving a reply.

The game I had high hopes for and wanted to support the company. I run into a problem which I ask to see if the company could fix and instead for 2days I get no answer and no assistance.

### 1/5 — Your enjoyment is based on RNG

*2021-07-30, version 1.5.7*

As Yoko Taro states, this game exists so square enix can make money on a gacha. He is mot being meta. Not neing quirky. That’s exactly what it is. It’s disappointing to see such an amazing and powerful series be reduced to this. Honestly gameplay wise it’s not bad. The auto turn based combat with skill attacks on cooldowns is serviceable. But the story sequences are really lackluster, and the Gacha system is horrid. Summons don’t match the data they state. Every ten pulls is supposed to be a high rate item with a guarantee for a character. Yeah that’s not true. I’ve done 43 summons and have only gotten weapons(with…pretty uninspiring designs tbh). I have been summoning in the character banner as well so this stings doubly so for me. I haven’t spent money, but the game gives you gems needed for summons at such a criminal rate I can’t say I’ll stay playing. Sad as Nier Replicant and Automata are among my favorite games of all time. Can’t always knock it out of the park it seems. Music is 10/10 as always though lol.

### 2/5 — Fun game but need improvement

*2021-09-28, version 1.6.21*

This game is okay if you like NieR and collecting stuff, but there’s just way too much farming in the game and there’s no way to skip or fast forward the battles in auto mode, so one would need to keep the phone on all the time to farm it.

And what’s worse is that the game doesn’t keep your phone screen on while auto farming, and it stops farming when the screen automatically turns off, so you will have to go to settings to turn off Auto Lock in order to farm, but if you forget to turn the auto lock back on after farming, you might end up with a dead phone when you need it. This is very annoying. For a mobile game like this, what’s the point to force the users to burn through our battery just to farm? Let us have the options to skip battles or allow the farming to continue in the back ground.

I play games on mobile because I don’t have time to play a console or computer game, but If a mobile game with a pay to win system is gonna cost me as much time to farm, it completely defeats the purpose of playing a mobile game imo.

And one more thing, the game audio just won’t turnoff when you are using headphones watching videos or listening to music at the same time. Please fix it.

### 2/5 — Good but boring, ads won’t close

*2021-08-09, version 1.5.7*

The game itself is pretty good when there is gameplay. The story is intriguing and tends to be a bit lengthy. If only for those things I’d give 3 but the facts that the ads don’t always close..... that’s a major issue. I’ve had to close out the game and reopen it when doing the spin wheel and it’s really annoying to have to keep doing it over and over again. Takes away from me wanting to play the game. Also, the spin wheel should really have a spin again feature since you get 6 free spins daily. Would eliminate a lot of stress and headache from the game since most of the game is already 80% auto run 15% story telling and 5% action and gameplay. Very misleading advertisement. I assumed I would have more play with characters. SMH

### 2/5 — Now what?

*2021-08-06, version 1.5.7*

First let me say, this game sounds beautiful and the visual aesthetic is good, especially during the storybook segments.

I finished the main story on normal and it just… hangs there. No resolution. No intention to progress. It’s like they left three more chapters on the editing room floor. You can play again on Hard/Very Hard/Master, but the story as such is incomplete. Automata and Replicant have replay value precisely because the story both resolves and changes on each playthrough.

The enemy variety could also be spiced up. So many birds and seals and wolves to fight.

Third, from what I can see, the “connection” to the Nier universe is tenuous at best. You can unlock characters from Automata and the Final Fantasy crossover, but otherwise it’s just a separate concept with the IP slapped on.

Camera during the walking segments can also be a bit weird on the turns.

If this was more relevant to the universe (you play as a Gestalt attempting to reunite with your Replicant?? It’s right there!) and complete, I could rate it higher, but I just can’t.

### 2/5 — Has potential, but currently nowhere near worth playing..

*2021-08-02, version 1.5.7*

The music and storyline is pretty good. The visuals are unispired & washed out. Character design is absolute garbage. I cannot even FIND the game's mechanics. I'm sorry to have to say all of that, as I have been a *huge* Square-Enix fan for as I can remember, but I've been so disenchanted playing this release over the last week, hoping that something of merit would be kicking in "anytime now", but it never came. You will be fighting the same handful of amorphous blobs from Chapters 1 - 9. The underpinning vibe I get, is one that I feel most people have, unfortunately, come to expect from the mobile gaming franchise: it's a system of paywalls/stat checks with just enough content to keep you trudging toward the next hurdle. Still, I've played many mobile RPGs/Gachas over the years which are built around that same basic framework, but manage to pull it off with some flair, and enough substance to keep me engaged. This just isn't one of them. I can toss the devs a pair of stars for some of the story elements, and the music, but unless this project undergoes a transformation of, "No Man's Sky" proportions at some point, I don't see myself coming back to this one. In its current form, I honestly can't even recognize it as a Square-Enix product.

### 2/5 — This is barely even a game.

*2021-07-30, version 1.5.7*

I’m so let down. As a fan of NieR Automata, I was very excited for this. It has beautiful graphics and music. The story seems interesting and voice acting is good. Sadly, the actual game portion is severely lacking. It uses just about every single negative tactic of mobile games. The worst offense is that the game basically plays itself thanks to this horrible Auto mechanic that seems to be in many mobile games these days. There is very little need for player interaction in both movement and combat. Why even bother to play when it’s just easier to click Auto and let the game win itself? I want to strategize, be challenged, etc. I haven’t seen any of that at all. So bummed. You just watch…

### 2/5 — Good visuals, story, but stale uninspired combat.

*2021-07-30, version 1.5.7*

Long and short of this mobile game is the story and presentation of it, the music, the art, the voice acting is all really quite good, great even. Problem is the gameplay itself is split into two parts, walking simulator and auto-battles. The walking sim part is neat and it’s nice having an actual world to go through for story missions, so I’m not complaining about this tbh, it’s a good step up from most mobile games story presentation for sure. The combat on the other hand is a huge let down.

The game boast some impressive models and animations for its attacks and skills, but you have what amounts to no impact on the fight. You have a 3D space you can walk your character around in but you can’t affect combat outside of hitting “use skill” buttons when the timers up. Basic attacks are performed automatically and you can’t dodge or block enemy attacks. Combat really is as engaging as QTEs in RE4, you push a skill button every few seconds and the rest is auto pilot.

### 3/5 — Beautiful game, gets dull fast

*2022-10-01, version 2.12.1*

Beautiful graphics, and the story seems interesting at first. Game play gets repetitive, with little variation from battle to battle, and little input required from players during the battle to win (literally did this while on my peloton for an hour). Story segments that are pretty, but also kind of trite. Ultimately deleted it because like many of these games, it pushes you harder and harder to pay for add ons and enhancements. I’ve been down that route before, and don’t care to go there again. Would not recommend.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Story’s are amazing

*2023-05-18*

The story leaves you wanting more after each segment. You can tell the devs took their time creating a beautiful story with a rich, detailed world. The environment is breathtaking every corner you turn.

The only thing I will say I think in the character and weapon enhancement screen there should a sort option that only shows characters and weapons that you have enough material to upgrade. Instead of going through your inventory and scrolling through 100+ weapons just to find out you have enough material for 3 weapon upgrades. Or worse, you have enough for 50 weapons but they’re scattered all throughout the invent

That’s really my only gripe with the game but it’s so minor compared to the rest of the experience and gameplay

### 5/5 — Very good game but some downsides

*2022-10-03, version 2.12.1*

Please make the pity 150 and not 200, only reruns get 150 pity but please make every banner have 150 pity, it takes so much more to get to pity. Currently on the Persona 5 banner I am 300 pulls in and have none of the crossover characters but if the pity was 150 I could get both of them. The other thing is that reruns do not give you gems, please make them reset because it feels very bad when an event gets a rerun and not being able to get gems from them. Still nice game though 😁👍🏻

### 5/5 — It’s almost perfect

*2021-11-28, version 2.1.2*

Absolutely love the whole Nier series; the characters, the story and the music go hand in hand together. Everything is just so captivating and what’s even better is that this particular game is for mobile! However there is one small problem… every time I load the game up it crashes (iOS). I’ve tried closing the app and loading it back up and that usually works but recently it’s started to become a bit irritating having to go through the loading screens. Hopefully it’ll be an easy fix in a future update.

### 5/5 — Surprisingly good!

*2021-11-26, version 2.1.2*

This was my very first introduction to the NieR franchise and I have to say, it was nothing less than excellent. I was immediately drawn in by the graphics, music and mood of the game. The characters & their stories were interesting and engaging. While playing this game I started looking deeper into the lore and actually purchased both NieR Automata & NieR Replicant for the PS4, both of which I highly recommend. My favorite character overall was “Mama”. The voice talents of the characters themselves are also quite good. If you’re really into artwork & music this game delivers with its detailed and intriguing design. I’m not very good at fighting games in general but I found the mechanics of the game extremely easy to get used to and level up my characters and their weapons for battle. The “mini games” left a little to be desired & some the gameplay was a bit repetitive in nature but that is basically the whole point of the game. You can kind of see the obvious ending coming down the road but even after you “finish”, the main story isn’t completely over. I loved this game and still haven’t finished it but keep coming back because it is genuinely that good. If you’re debating about playing it just do it already!

### 5/5 — Everything to expect from a NieR game

*2021-09-23, version 1.6.21*

Just as you would expect from a NieR game, this new addition has incredible story telling that will drag you in while being accompanied by a phenomenal soundtrack and stunning graphics. The gameplay isn’t too over the top and can even be completely automatic for those who are only really interested in the story's. However just like any game there will be at least some minor bugs. One of the main bugs that I have been running into at the moment is that at times when I collect something from either a mission or by collecting on of the birds my game will constantly have the connecting sign in the corner of the screen and never connect despite having perfectly fine internet. However, I don’t find this to be a big enough of an issue to cost such a great game even 1 star. This game most certainly has the potential to become one of the greatest mobile games of all time as long as they move in the right direction and I can’t wait to see where they go with it next.

### 5/5 — Need more of this type of game.

*2021-08-28, version 1.6.1*

It’s a quite rare gacha game that not too much focus on requirements to spend a lot of money and time investment while being a Nier series, what make me surprised about it that the dialogues and quality of the story is great. Since this game is considered new on global market, I believe the game has a better potential if they have more activities and things that could give it a better go. It’s probably higher than quality than most FF games on mobile from SE that I know and play so far.

The combat seems great and high quality, wish Nier Gestalt or Drakegard should have some version of the games on mobile, console, or PC platforms. Personally, I think limited games on other platforms somehow low down the intentions for this type of game. It’s technically one of the heavy titles that would explode your phone devices, so i recommend that a console port or PC should be greatly appreciated.

### 5/5 — Amazing Game

*2021-08-22, version 1.6.1*

I pre-ordered this game and played it for about a week before deleting it. My initial impressions were a mixed bag: the game itself was a beautiful combination of Monument Valley, Sinoalice, and a (somewhat) traditional JRPG. However, due to my unfamiliarity (at the time) with gachas and the complexities/oddities of the mechanic - and the game itself - I just found it a little overwhelming at the time. However, after months passed by and I inadvertently became more familiar with gachas - courtesy of Punishing: Gray Raven and Genshin Impact - I decided to circle back on NieR:R and boy…I sure am glad I did. Now that I understand gacha mechanics I now have a far better vision of how this game works. With this confusion cleared up it’s like a fog lifted, thus revealing the other elements of the game that I didn’t fully appreciate at the time, such as the awesome characters/weapons, the beautiful world, and the dark but lovely storytelling. I am a huge fan of this game now and am thankful I gave it a second chance.

### 5/5 — A solid RPG that respects your time

*2021-08-19, version 1.6.1*

I understand that some of the auto-mechanics may not be for everyone, but the real strategizing of the game is in how you build your loadouts. Battle strategizing does become more involved later, as chaining together moves becomes crucial.

Thankfully, the auto battling does come in handy for some of the items you have to grind for, so I am thankful this is one of those games that respects your time.

For any who loves Nier for it’s deep existential and philosophical themes that make you ponder the absurdity and meaninglessness of life…that’s all here. I am actually always surprised at the various ways Yoko Taro is able to spin these themes; he is quite the writer/philosopher.

As someone who quit FFBE and Genshin Impact, im glad to be able to start something new and more up my alley, with the game being more “mature” in tone and themes and art style. This game gives me the fix that I haven’t been able to get since Final Fantasy Möbius

### 5/5 — It’s relaxing, like a book.

*2021-08-09, version 1.5.7*

Yet it’s better than a book, it has music, beautiful music. It’s like action-packed Shostakovich, with a nice Greek tragedy thrown in there. I guess that doesn’t make a lot of sense, but that doesn’t matter as long as the feeling gets across. It’s Gacha, which is OK; like Yoko Taro said, it’s for Square Enix to make money. That’s also fine, wouldn’t have gotten the story otherwise. I have unlocked A2 and 2B, just need 9S, which shouldn’t be that hard. Thanks for a fun game, whoever is reading this.

### 5/5 — Please fix app crash for IPHONE

*2021-08-06, version 1.5.7*

Good addictive game been a fan of Nier since the first one. I do wish the world was a little more interesting and that the game wouldn’t crash so often as my phone never had an issue with other more powerful games before. But this tends to crash a lot. It does save so thankfully it doesn’t delete any data but still it’s annoying the amount of times it crashes. Please fix! Also looking forward to arena hopefully that is finished soon. All in all tho I’m happy with it.
