## What is Nightingale?

Two readings a day. One for the morning, one for the night.

Nightingale is a hand-built library of the world's most beautiful short pieces — poems, letters, essays and stories — gathered over a lifetime of loving them and fitted to the minutes you actually have.

Each day it hands you two: something to begin with, something to end with. Read one in a minute, or ten. Many are performed aloud. You read, sit with it a moment, and carry it with you.

No feeds. No endless next. A reading, then closure.

**THE DAY'S PAIR**

A morning reading and an evening one, chosen by hand and the same for every reader — so you never have to decide what to read to begin.

And when you want to wander, the whole library is open. Browse the eight moods, follow a path, or simply tell it how long you have: 1, 2, 5 or 10 minutes. More than a hundred readings, with more every month.

The pair is the habit. The library is the reward.

**A LIBRARY LIKE NO OTHER**

From Bashō's haiku to Seneca's counsel, from Quixote's windmills to Machiavelli's letters. Every piece is chosen by hand, sourced, and named.

Real writing, never summaries. Where a reading is drawn from something longer it is named as such and shaped to stand on its own — never chopped off mid-thought.

This is not an anthology scraped from the public domain. It is one reader's shelf, built over decades and edited until every sentence earns its place. The time label is a promise, not a guess: a 2-minute read takes two minutes.

**NIGHTINGALE ORIGINALS**

Alongside the classics are pieces that exist nowhere else, written especially for this library.

The love story inside the Taj Mahal. Why the sunlight on your hand is eight minutes old. Why losing hurts twice as much as winning feels good.

Short essays on wonder, history and the mind, each written to end like a bell.

**THE LISTENING ROOM**

A room, not a playlist. Put a record on the deck and let a piece be read to you.

A poem read like a poem. A letter read like a letter.

Lock-screen controls, background listening, gentle scrubbing. Made for eyes-closed, phone-down moments.

**A COMMONPLACE BOOK IN YOUR POCKET**

Every reading ends with a quiet question. Your answers gather into a commonplace book — a 400-year-old practice, revived.

Reflections stay on your phone. Searchable, private and entirely yours.

**READING PATHS**

Short, curated sequences meant to be walked in order. New ones arrive every month.

A path ends. It does not scroll forever.

**THE CANDLE, NOT THE STREAK**

Finish a reading and your candle burns another night. Miss a day and nothing shames you. The candle relights when you return.

Warmth, not guilt.

**EIGHT MOODS**

Calm for tonight. Courage for harder days. Wisdom, Poetry, History, Curiosity, Reflective and Whimsy. Each mood is a shelf of its own.

**MADE WITH CARE**

* Four quiet themes — Café, Ocean, Forest and Pinot — each with day and night
* A home-screen widget that turns twice a day, morning and evening
* Full VoiceOver support, with text that grows as large as you need
* No account. No ads. No tracking. Completely private.

**FREE AND MEMBERSHIP**

One of the day's two readings is free, every day — and you choose which one.

Membership opens the rest: the whole library, every mood, every path, and the Listening Room. Monthly, yearly with a 7-day free trial, or a once-and-done lifetime membership.

No tricks. Cancel anytime.

Nightingale is made by one person who believes the love of reading can be given to almost anyone — provided the right piece arrives at the right moment, in the right amount.

That is what it tries to do, twice a day.

The world could use less doomscrolling and a little more reading.

### 5/5 — Love the content

*2026-07-29*

One fear that I have recently developed is that most of the written content in the world becomes AI slop. I love that this app only uses written works from the early 1900s and before. It’s refreshing to read something that is not in the same AI structure that most of social media has become.

**Developer response:** Thank you. We are so happy to hear that. More curated content coming soon!

### 5/5 — Found my love for reading

*2026-07-28*

This app helped me find my love for reading again. I had stopped reading since I never had the time to do it. But nightingale made it easy with its quick 1-2 min reads that I can do from anywhere. Or even the 10 min reads when I need to wind down a bit. I also enjoyed the narrations as it made it easy to still get my daily read in even when I don’t want to look at my screen. Writing the reflections really made me look at reading in a different perspective and how I can relate to them.

Ps really enjoyed the color themes as I’m able to make it personal and fit my vibe depending on my mood lol.

**Developer response:** Thank you for the feedback. Our aim is to fit reading back into the business of modern life and we are so happy that the app is helping you in that regard.

### 5/5 — A great addition to my routine

*2026-07-28*

Ive always wanted to read more, but it was hard to stay consistent. Nightingale makes it feel manageable because I can choose a reading based on how much time I have. I usually read one every night right before bed and it's become a nice part of my routine. the app is easy to use, and I like that it encourages me to slow down for a few minutes instead of endlessly scrolling.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for this thoughtful note. We made Nightingale for exactly those small, quiet moments. Wishing you many more gentle reads before bed.

### 5/5 — A Different Perspective

*2026-07-25*

I have been using Nightingale for a week now and one thing stood out to me. Many of the pieces I’ve read were written hundreds of years ago, yet they never felt distant. One of my favorite parts is the reflection at the end. It encourages me to pause instead of moving on. As I reflected on one of the pieces, I wondered how someone who lived many years before me could understand the same emotions and questions that I have today. That’s when I realized that while we have cars, smartphones and all kinds of new technology, human nature really hasn’t changed. I felt connected to people who lived way before me. I didn’t expect to gain this perspective from just a few minutes of reading a day. This is what keeps me coming back.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for sharing this. We’re really glad Nightingale has helped you feel connected to these voices across time, and that the reflections have become a meaningful part of your reading.

### 5/5 — My new night time routine

My New Nighttime Routine

I’ve been using this app for a few nights now, and it’s honestly become part of my bedtime routine. I usually read for about 10 minutes before going to sleep, and it helps me relax and clear my mind after a long day. It’s a nice break from scrolling on my phone, and I actually look forward to reading every night.

**Developer response:** Thank you for sharing this. We’re so glad Nightingale has become a calming part of your evenings and gives you a quiet break from scrolling.

## Version history (last 4 releases)

### 2.0.0 — 2026-08-10

Version 2.0 is here & Nightingale feels a little more like itself now.

There are now two readings each day: one to begin the morning, one to close the night, each with a cover made especially for it.

The Listening Room has a turntable now. Pick a reading, drop the needle, and let someone read to you.

Explore has a new home too: a stray line, the week’s path, all eight moods, and search across the whole library.

The Commonplace brings your reading hours, reflections, saved pieces and candle together in one quiet place.

And the widget now changes with the day — once in the morning, and again in the evening.

A lot went into this one. Thank you for reading.

### 1.0.2 — 2026-07-21

New readings have arrived on the shelves, including Chekhov, Katherine Mansfield, and Andersen's The Nightingale. New members now get a proper welcome, and we fixed a hiccup that could replay onboarding after you'd joined. Read well.

### 1.0.1 — 2026-07-20

A polished first update, inside the same quiet walls:
• Smoother onboarding with a new first-reading menu — wisdom, story, wonder, or history
• Ambient rain and fire, now available from your very first reading
• The candle now honors re-reading a favorite
• Fixes and refinements throughout
