If you use your phone right before bed to get to sleep then this game is perfect for you. No time constraints or timed challenges, you move at your own pace and just watch your nightmare farm slowly grow. The only problem I have been coming across is glitches or bugs, not sure. But sometimes when I open the app or even while I am playing I will come to the main screen and some of my animals are nowhere to be seen and the circles to place items have disappeared. Some of the items of permanently placed in the circles have disappeared as well. I tried refreshing the app and reopening it but it hasn't reset the problem or fixed it. ### 4/5 — Love it but… *2022-11-02, version 1.4.0* All you do is farming and gathering! Maby add more like exploring the cave and farming more stuff. Also the time limmets on the things you give to your pets are some times unnervingly long! I have no problem with how the farming is designed and I love the look. The frustrating part is the lack of instructions especially for the challenges. I have tried everything possible to figure out the individual monster icon challenges. Haven't been able to find anything online either as this doesn't seem like a popular game in the first place. The only problem is i hit 0 apples on my first save and idk how to get more so i had to make a second save ### 3/5 — Cute but rough *2022-04-11, version 1.4.0* This is a cute idea—kind of like Neko Atsume but with farming and crafting! I wish it were a little more fully-featured (maybe it will get more engaging farther along). The biggest thing that bugs me here are the alerts—EVERYTHING new gets a big glaring alert/notification thing, even if it’s a cutscene you just watched (to clear it you have to go back and watch the video again) or a photo that you just took or a clothing item you just bought and already changed into. As someone who is a little compulsive it is driving me up a wall! Speaking of the cutscenes… it would be nice if they were a little clearer and moved along more quickly (or at least had a fast forward). I just don’t feel like I’m learning that much about the story during them. Anyway, this game has a lot of potential, and I like playing it, but it can get pretty frustrating. As others have said, some text would help. The tutorials are pretty bare too—like I’m not sure how to get the upgraded crops and it seems like they just appear at random. Please fix this, or am I doing something wrong? ### 2/5 — My progress is not saved at all in the save slot *2021-07-20, version 1.3.1* I’ve just download this game not too long ago maybe like 4 or 5 days ago and started playing it and I completed this first chapter which I believe is with the dog or whatever it is call (not to be rude or anything I just don’t know what’s it called) and so the next day I come back to play open the app and my slot was not there it just took me back to the tutorial I though oh maybe I didn’t hit the save slot so gave it another try and this time I got farther I got to the second one which is the one with the bear and then I stopped playing for 1 or 2 days because I got busy with my job. So I open it up today because I was egar to play and well what do you know hey tutorial I see you’re still here great✌🏾 I can not with this y’all really need to fix that issue ### 2/5 — Bugged out couldn’t continue *2021-05-07, version 1.3.1* My 4 spots just disappeared. The things in them just disappeared. If this is part of the game it is not explained. So, either it’s too cryptic or too buggy to finish. I liked the art style though. ### 2/5 — Previous save somehow overwrote my progress *2021-03-02, version 1.3.1* This game relies on saving data to the cloud to track progress across devices. Somehow my save was overwritten by a previous day’s save and thus I lost several days worth of progress. This is extremely aggravating and I don’t see a point to continue playing the game which is really unfortunate because it’s a cute game otherwise. ### 2/5 — Frustrating, No Guidelines *2020-11-09, version 1.3.0* I cannot close my tasks and it’s frustrating there are no guidelines whatsoever. I feel like I have to read the mind of the developer on what s/he wants from me. It looks like a cool game it’s VERY unfortunate that this is lacking simple ABCs. I’ve been on it for six hours and I still can’t close the bear task. I dont even know what to do or what’s required! ### 3/5 — Keeps restarting my game *2020-08-25, version 1.2.0* I really like this type of game so I was excited to play it. I spent a while on it after I downloaded it, then opened the app to play a few days later and I was back at my tutorial, everything I had done was gone. I thought maybe, it was some kind of glitch, I'll start over, I'll give it another chance. About 30 min ago, after literally playing an hour ago, I opened it up again, and back at the tutorial. Eh. I don't want to try a third time. ☹️ ### 2/5 — Everyday I start *2020-07-13, version 1.2.0* All over again, I downloaded it got to an octopus the first day and now I start the game all over again , I can’t find a way to report the glitch. I would like to keep playing the game, but not if I’m doing seeing the thing everyday, same video stories. ### 2/5 — Cute, but not for the arcade *2020-06-29, version 1.2.0* The game is alright, for a farming game, but definitely not something that feels like it belongs in Apple Arcade. It’s just a little bit too simplistic and it relys heavily on wait times, which is more a staple of a free-to-play game and for an Arcade game, I expect a little more content for the cost. Especially when you hold it up to other games in the Arcade, this one doesn’t really stand out. ### 3/5 — A little confusing *2020-06-23, version 1.2.0* It's a bit confusing because of the lack of words in descriptions. I can't really tell what all the quests mean. Can't figure out what completes some of them, and just get lucky and complete them sometimes. There needs to be a written instructions somewhere. Otherwise, I don't hate it. Please provide some sort of mapping of items and how to get them. No way to keep track of what gives what. ### 3/5 — Confusing *2020-06-01, version 1.2.0* It’s extremely hard to figure out the goals and how to get points from daily challenges when there is absolutely no text or context. I love the game and the graphics but the video tutorials were more confusing than anything. Having some text based tips and explanations would be helpful. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — This game traumatized me *2022-12-01, version 1.5.0* I was enjoying this game, except it’s a bit frustrating because there is very little instruction— you kind of have to figure it out. The cut scenes with the “bat cat” were very upsetting because the other characters were so mean to it but I kept playing hoping things would get better. When you get to cut scene 10 (or 11), you have to make a choice on what to pick, but because there is no dialogue you don’t really know what you are picking, so I just chose anything and ended up with this horrible and mean end for the bat cat. And you can’t go back and choose the other ending. I am so completely traumatized by it that I’m crying. I’m never playing this game again. ### 1/5 — Completely bored *2021-08-01, version 1.3.1* I was excited for this game for all of three seconds. The graphics are nice, reminding me of a graphic novel. The story is a typical outcast feeling hurt and alone who finds kindness and starts to heal. The scenery is very nightmare-fantasy-fairytale, kind of like a Tim Burton movie. After going through the tutorial and the first cutscene it becomes quickly obvious that this is a time waster in ever sense of the word. There’s nothing to do! You plant few crops, literally you can only do eight at a time, wait, harvest, exchange for items for the little animal companions to interact with, wait some more, collect what the animals drop only to exchange that for more things for the animals to play with. Sure, you collect hearts along the way to exchange for costume changes for the nameless avatar and background scenes but that’s it. It takes forever to even save up enough hearts for anything. There’s nothing else to do while you wait on the crops and animals to finish, no way to quickly unlock the next crop or animal or cut scene. No mini games to play while you wait. Not at all what I expect from an Apple Arcade game. It feels very much like a freemium game that would typically offer instant crop and animal collection for real money. A complete disappointment. ### 1/5 — Boring and disappointing... *2020-12-06, version 1.3.0* Was excited to see a farming game on arcade, especially one with super cute art. I was incredibly disappointed by the slow paced, pointless game... like the leaf is the second item you can get thats not food but isn't interactive? Im so confused. Theres no words so you don’t really know what you’re doing... ill save you the 5 minutes of your life and tell you not to try/download this game. ### 1/5 — Fun while it lasted. *2020-06-28, version 1.2.0* I loved the game it was cute. I loved the idea of farming and collecting objects from each visitor to move on. I did everything and finished the storyline. I was not just trying to finish all the quests left which was a little boring but since it was a cute game I continued. But then all my hard work was gone. I was signed in and playing and all of a sudden the game started over even with the clothes I collected and it was like I had to start all over. Why would I do that. I had some many neat things collected. If I had agreed to restart that would be another story but that’s not even an option in the game. ### 1/5 — Please fix this game! *2020-04-02, version 1.2.0* I have been playing this game for about a weekend it was a good calming time with cute animals and a cute story. I could never get it to work across my devices even though I was fully updated and signed into gamespot. Oh well, I’ll play on my iPad only. This morning I logged in and everything is gone. The game totally reset and all of my progress is lost. I’m so disappointed! The art is so cute and the game is very relaxing but I’m so mad that everything I worked on is totally gone. ### 1/5 — An idle game without the paywall *2020-03-03, version 1.2.0* Now... theoretically the concept of this game is stellar But having to wait so long in between every single thing you do without the paywall or ad-wall to speed it up is excruciating. You don’t even have the OPTION to speed it up. This game feels like it was designed for the App Store as a regular idle game and then when it got shunted into arcade they just forgot to make it playable. Making everything take like 5 seconds TOPS would be fine. Making special actions take several minutes from the get-go??? Combined with the fact you can only do one at a time?? I don’t like being harsh in reviews and I always try to find something good about whatever I’m reviewing. This “game” makes saying something good about it really, really difficult. The only positive I can really think of is at least the game is on Arcade and not the App Store where it would doubtless be begging for money to do incredibly boring and pointless tasks that appear to have no point. I’ve tried to play for a longer period of time in the hopes that it would get better, it has not. If you’re looking for something to blow your mind because you can’t believe someone would take the time and make the effort to develop this game, than this is the one for you! We will make sure to take note of your feedback for future development. ### 1/5 — Barely a Game *2019-10-07, version 1.0.0* It’s like one of those freemium clicker games but without the paid currency to speed things up, any actual direction, plot to interact with, or task to complete. The “game” is “played” in real time too so you’re just waiting to click. And that’s it. The animations are overly long and confusing but don’t really tell a story or give you a purpose to what you’re doing. All in all, a failure on all counts. ### 1/5 — Uninstalled this is like a freemium clicker.. *2019-10-07, version 1.0.0* There are timers in this game, not like Stardew timers, freemium real time timers, this game lacks in things to do, it feels like a game made in a quick rush possible was a freemium but then stripped away most everything but the lackluster timer system. This is thee worse Apple Arcade game I have seen, & if this shows anything it’s Apple is letting in anything that pretends to be premium quailty. ### 1/5 — Not Up To Par *2019-10-07, version 1.0.0* This game feels like it was made to be a freemium game and last minute was put on Apple Arcade. Gameplay consists of placing an object in the center of a town square, wait for some strange spirit animal to stop interacting with it and then take a reward that you can sell for hearts. Use those hearts to buy new objects and clothing for your character, rinse and repeat. Unlike some here, I had no trouble following the tutorial. But that’s because I’m used to games like this. Trouble is, the last couple of games I played similar to this were riddled with in-app purchases and ads. At least in those games, if I wanted to end a timer I could watch an ad. This game has timers with no way around them. Very odd choice for Apple Arcade and I don’t expect it to go very far. **Developer response:** Thank you for playing Nightmare Farm. You grow items such as apples, mushrooms, and shells (from coral trees) and you trade these items for other things such as biscuits and balls. Then you can use these traded products to lure creatures to come and play or consume. Once the creatures leave, they will give you gifts that can then be further traded. It is a slow game that doesn’t consume your entire attention. What I am still not clear on is how to get rainbow farmed products and how to share with another friend who doesn’t have the game downloaded. A bit slow to start with the repetitive planting, harvesting, repeat…however once you begin to unlock items and characters it becomes more enjoyable. I love watching the little friends interact with the items you provide for them and it’s fun and exciting to discover new things! The music and the scenery are perfectly eclectic.. The storyline is engaging..The lack of tutorial (or any instructions at all) make it more interesting for me. It’s part of the fun to discover how different items interact with the environment and characters..Definitely not a game to sit down and play for hours..it’s a game that you periodically check in with throughout the day. It’s a wonderful little game that I’m thoroughly enjoying! I’ve yet to find anything quite like it on the App Store..Well done developers!! ### 5/5 — Beautiful Narrative Story *2021-09-12, version 1.3.1* While the lack of tutorials for certain achievements or items was a bit confusing at first, I found the game to be extremely relaxing. The farming was not overwhelming like other games that demand constant attention, and so I found it a fun game to check into every day. However, I think the gameplay has taken over centerstage, when the AMAZING story should be the main focus. I finished a bit ago and the way the story unfolded throughout each mission was beautiful. Even if the gameplay was actually difficult to understand, I think the story and animation definitely made up for it.
