## What is Nine Mens Morris?

Nine Mens Morris is a classic board game. 

Each of the two players has nine pieces,
which they put alternately on any free point of the game board. 

The game proceeds in three phases:
1.Placing pieces on empty points.
2.Moving pieces to adjacent points.
3.Moving pieces to any empty point when a player has only three pieces left.

If a player gets three pieces in a line - a mill, 
he removes one of the opponent's pieces from the game board. 

A player has lost, if he has only two pieces left or 
if he is not able to make a move with one of his pieces.

Version 1.7 works fine for me. I like that the AI has an easy level so I can quickly just play the game for fun.

I enjoy Marelorum type of games. In fact, I wrote a book about them.

Nine Mens Morris variant was reconstructed about a hundred years ago by a famous researcher named Murray. Murray is not historically accurate but it is better than nothing. See king Alphonso's Book of Games for the correct rules for this Marelorum.

(Or see my book, "Dukes & Counts" for the correct rules derivation of this and dozens of ancient games whose rules are still often thought lost to history by modern scholars. Marelorum (merels/mills, terni lapilli), Ursalorum (bear hunting or wrestling), Calculorum (draughts, dames), Latrunculorum (latrones, tafls, alea evangelii), Schachorum (chess, damsels, jiang qi), backgammons, Petteia, Poleis, Polis, royal game of Ur, Stomachion, and many others are axiomatically derived from historical evidence.)
