They assured me it would have no bearing on how the insurance company rates me. Well, thank goodness for for that. No matter how slow I go, it gives me a “harsh cornering” score nearly every time I make a turn. I tested it out this morning by almost slowing to a stop - I was going between 5-10 mph while making a turn & it still gave me a 10 out of 100 for harsh cornering. I was a passenger with my daughter a few days ago and it rated the trip as if I were driving. I tried to change it from “driver” to “passenger” and from “my vehicle” to “other” and the app crashed each time I attempt to change it. I finally gave up. If I wasn’t getting a discount on my policy, this app would’ve been deleted the day I downloaded it. It’s awful. ### 1/5 — Give option to use location while using app *2022-06-21, version 3.12.0* Give members the option for use location while using app (similar to all the other apps). NJM Drive is draining mobil phones battery life fast. It says it’s recording while I’m driving and when my trip is done, it says Complete but after a week of driving, I have 0 trips logged. Have contacted customer service to no avail. How is this app having the same issues that customers reported YEARS ago??? Do better ### 1/5 — Don’t count on this! *2022-06-20, version 3.12.0* App stalled after 2 weeks. The tech support is nonexistent. If you depend on this to reduce your insurance, good luck. No response to feedback! Stay off the interstate highways, it doesn’t like speed over 50. ### 1/5 — Doesn’t work *2022-06-15, version 3.12.0* Doesn’t work, it keeps telling me my settings are incorrect when they are correct. I pressed allow always for location and allowed motion and fitness tracking. ### 1/5 — App crashes, and is invasive *2022-05-23, version 3.12.0* When I’m riding my motorcycle and I try to update the ride to reflect other the app crashes. It also counts me practicing my turns in a parking lot and then gives me a bad turning score. Sometimes I get a distracted driving score for handling my phone even though I haven’t handled it. I’m not sure how much money I save on my insurance by using this app. But I wish it reflected my actual driving and wasn't so invasive. ### 1/5 — The app don’t work *2022-01-13, version 3.12.0* I’ve had this app on my phone for maybe two months and every time I go to login it will not let me login it keeps asking me for a verification of my username all the way at the bottom with nothing on the screen I have to go into my App Store go to the New Jersey Manufacturers app and then go down to app support to log into the app to make my payments or whatever they need to fix this this is bad. ### 1/5 — Not worth the 5% *2021-06-21, version 3.9.1.2* This app DRAINS phone battery like that’s its job. Location services don’t turn off despite a Trip having ended. Was tagged as cornering while stuck in the flow of speeding traffic on a highway ramp and tagged speeding as I attempted to get away from aggressive drivers. I am a safe driver. My record speaks for itself. Again, the troubles are not worth the $100/year. I’d be paying double that just for the electricity to charge my phone after using the app!! ### 2/5 — Not refreshing ?!? *2020-12-26, version 3.9.1.2* Ami i the only one whose app does not work? It does not record the mileage etc and log to the logbook. Pls look Into it and let me know if any workarounds. Cheers !! ### 2/5 — App needs to be tweaked *2020-11-03, version 3.9.1.2* The app continues to deduct points for “phone handling events.” My car has Apple play, and I do not handle my phone while driving. I think as a customer, we should be able to check off that we have this option in our vehicle. Points should not be deducted if we are being safe drivers, just answering a phone call through our car. ### 2/5 — It's not fair *2020-10-26, version 3.9.1.2* I don't understand why the app is in several languages: German, English, French and Arabic. What happened to Spanish in a country where there are more than 60 million people who speak Spanish! It feels discriminatory . ### 1/5 — Poor *2020-08-10, version 3.9.1.2* The App is deeply flawed. The app is non functional many times and very unreliable. I’ve driven to and from work for a week now but it has only recorded two of my drives. This also scares me because it says it is recording but then does not show my drive when I return home. I’m concerned about where my information is actually going if it says it’s recording but does not show up afterward. Please fix these issues. **Developer response:** Tom, thanks for your feedback. Trips don’t register because the apps not actually on, or some other setting. If I turn them all on when I start the trip, it still doesn’t want to count the trip. Having them on all the time runs my battery down constantly. I am very tired of having to recharge five times a day. ### 1/5 — Unprofessional *2024-07-27* If NJM can’t even keep there app running properly how can I trust they run there company properly. All they have to do is update there app. Everyone else seems to do so. Might have to start looking for a new insurance company. ### 1/5 — Buggy and Annoying *2024-02-15* Hasn’t been updated in 3 years and crashes when trying to edit vehicle options. Also constantly asks me to change my settings and the window can’t be dismissed. It’s a constant babysitting job. Like other apps of this kind it doesn’t know enough to be truly accurate. For example when it is still recording a drive but you’re at a drive thru window and you need to use your phone to pay for your purchase. I’m going to pause or turn off njm each time? Right. So now my coffee stop is distracted driving. I could go on but the tech is not there yet. ### 1/5 — Horrible app *2023-12-28* Stopped working in July on my wife’s phone and two weeks ago on my phone. Have called NJM safe drive people several times and what they tell me is what my phone shows is already done. They keep saying they will pass my concerns on to their tech dept but nothing changes. Also the app is silly. You are pdnslized if someone cuts you off and you have yo swerve to avoid an accident or if you have to jam on your brakes. They seem to penalize you if you break hard when a light changes and you decide to stop quickly. If you run the light no penalty. So really with all the things they can’t know about what is this app really good for? ### 1/5 — Frequent Reinstall Needed *2023-11-30* The app stops without warning for no reason and needs to be reinstalled to work again. There is a message about incorrect settings when, in fact, they are correctly set. Very unreliable tool. ### 1/5 — Constantly thinks I am distracted *2023-10-02* I use a dash mount so that I can use my phone as a GPS…the stupid app thinks I am constantly using my phone while driving. Must’ve been designed by five year olds. ### 1/5 — Battery addiction *2023-02-07, version 3.12.0* Honestly not that bad of scoring system but the sole fact I need my phone for work and every time I needed it it died on me. For a whole week I did not understand why my phone was dying by 12:00 my day starts at 6-7 I use GPS don’t have it plugged in as it’s unnecessary early in the morning and by the time I get to my first location I’m already at 10% sometimes get stranded because Apple takes so long to boot up but the real issue is why this app takes so much when it’s not supposed to. ### 1/5 — What have I gotten myself into? *2023-02-02, version 3.12.0* I just downloaded this app thinking, since I loved NJM when I had them years ago, that they’d have a topnotch app to go along with their topnotch service. What I find is an app with a 1.7 rating WORSE than the park NYC App which is worse than HORRIBLE. Issues ongoing for over THREE YEARS? “Jessica” either isn’t sending reports over to the development team like she says she is, or said team is a bunch of mouth breathers too busy playing World of Warcraft in mom’s basement to bother to get any effect coding done. ### 1/5 — The worst! *2023-01-26, version 3.12.0* It can’t tell if you’re a passenger or driver or if you’re on a bus! Drains my battery like crazy. I’m not sure it’s worth the discount ### 1/5 — differentiate driver from passenger *2023-01-14, version 3.12.0* App is unable to differentiate who is driving from who is a passenger. It tracks my sons school bus rides and him as distracted as he’s using his phone on the bus. My problem was fixed like ASAP👍🏼 ### 5/5 — Good app *2020-02-10, version 3.6.1* App seems to be good. However, it expects you to drive like a 75 year old grandma. I often commute to a station 3 miles. I have been dinged in every turn. Perhaps it needs tuning. I don’t know if I insurance companies will ding you for not getting a consistently high score? What if I left the phone in the car and my wife drives it away? Or vice versus. How do they know who drove? This could be a legal issue for the insurance company if they change the rates for a driver based on this app. Did anyone read the fine print? However, I must say that the app is good to check your driving style. ### 3/5 — The algorithm needs to be updated. *2023-06-05* As a new NJM SafeDrive app user, I am waiting for more than a month to give my impression and review. The app tracks your driving via smart phone GPS and gyroscope, which measures driving speed and turning speed/angle. The math behind can be complicated. But starting from middle of May 2023, my accumulated scores by the end of May was half the rest app users in Leaderboard, who use the app from beginning of May. Simply put, the algorithm doesn’t compare average daily score. It compares the total scores. It seems the more you drive the higher your score is. ### 3/5 — Privacy and passenger concern *2022-08-25, version 3.12.0* I went to philly with my nephew I was a passenger and I wonder how they jump to my score and know if iam a passenger or driver ?? And Privacy is important in every body’s life !! ### 3/5 — Good Concept, some suggestions *2019-07-22, version 3.1.3* I appreciate the concept of this app and I am excited to be using it, as I am a new driver and appreciate the feedback on my driving. 2 main issues so far. #1 - I live in north jersey, in the mountains. This means I am mostly on very curvy roads. I often have all 100s with an almost 0 cornering score, even if I am going significantly under (5-10 mph) the speed limit around curves. The cornering metrics need to be adjusted to take curvy roads into account! #2 - I want to make a leaderboard with my mom and dad (to prove who the best driver in the family really is) but when I try to search for people to add, the app crashes every time I type in the second letter. Please address this bug. ### 3/5 — Okay but needs some work *2018-09-29, version 1.0* I like the concept of this app that it does encourage safe driving. Been using it for a short time and feel like it is not fully relatable to NJ driver society with acceleration or braking scores (ex: highway entrance and exit ramps). Sometimes I feel like if I do accelerate or brake at the level this app wants I’m going to have a line of cars behind me honking and cause others to road rage. Like this app but maybe update these aspects so that even when I go the speed limit I don’t drive like a grandma. ### 2/5 — Battery hog and inaccurate *2023-01-20, version 3.12.0* I want to like this app but I have 2 min of screen time over the last 10 days and it’s sucked 20% of my batter….#1 battery use. Deleting until it can be fixed. ### 2/5 — Stupid. *2022-07-27, version 3.12.0* My car have apple CarPlay. If I use apple carplay the app says I am using my phone. But I have to snooze whenever someone else is behind the wheel and this is tedious. Sometimes I don’t remember and I get a bad score because my mom or dad were driving or I was using the phone while they were behind the wheel.
