The main issue is that the app is very glitchy for me. Often I’ll open the app and the homescreen will be frozen. When I eventually get to play the videos the videos will be unresponsive to when I try to pause and the language on screen also freezes. **Developer response:** Thank you for learning Igbo with us and for your detailed feedback. Please update to the latest version, and don’t hesitate to reach out if you need any support at support@nkenneapp.com! ### 4/5 — Ethan Tang *2025-08-10, version 4.4* Monthly price went from CAD 6.99 to 12.49 in 30 days; I don’t recall any alerts though their fine print provides for arbitrary price increases - this wouldn’t be a problem if the lesson format wasn’t so archaic,; you’re forced to sit through prerecorded lessons that mix sound bites from native speakers with generic instructions; you can’t try the next lesson w/o playing the previous lesson, really shows the assumptions the product team makes about learning styles - also, there’s maybe 10 flashcards per lesson, but they are not interactive; it’s just plays a recording of the anglicized word - if only Rosetta Stone had African languages … tired of businesses offering inferior products and justifying it with some sort of ownership claim; just make a better product. ### 4/5 — Waiting for more Lanaguages *2025-02-07* Very excited this app exists. I’m going to have to wait though until Wolof (from Senegal, not Gambia), Bambara, Solinke, More, and Pular are added (especially Wolof and Pular!) 😁 **Developer response:** Hello, we have recently added Wolof to our list of African languages and we follow the Senegalese dialect. We will surely consider adding these languages as well. ### 4/5 — So far, not bad but content needs consistency *2024-11-06* I’m glad I found an app where I can learn my native Nigerian language & I’m loving the content so far. There a couple issues I’ve noticed though like the spelling/dialects are not consistent. For example with Igbo, “Sit down” was introduced as “noro ala” then later in a separate course it becomes “nodu ala”. This doesn’t throw me off because I know there are different dialects but others might get confused. Another example is the match quiz in lesson one. How are you can both be “Kedu ki mere” and “Kedu ka idi” but only one of those are accepted as correct & it’s not the version that was thought in the course. I’m also not sure how this Igbo tutor chat works but it doesn’t look like there are any live tutors. **Developer response:** Hi, Thank you so much for your feedback! Both "noro ala" and "nodu ala" mean "sit down" and are part of the Standard Igbo Dialect. We understand that such variations can be confusing, but this variation occurs based on the contextual structure and so we use both versions in our lessons. Regarding the quiz in lesson one, "Kedu ka idi?" (How are you?) and "Kedu ka I mere?" (How are you doing?) are both correct phrases taught in the lessons. This is a small difference and so the correct answer is set accordingly. For the tutor chat, we apologize for any inconvenience. Tutors operate on a first-come, first-serve basis due to the high volume of queries. However, you can request a specific time to chat with a tutor via text and audio messages. I can’t even access the rest without paying for it. If there’s no sound on the first one, why would I pay to see what the rest are like? Very unfortunate. **Developer response:** Thanks for your feedback, and we’re sorry for the frustration. We actually replied to your support request via email to help troubleshoot this. In some cases on iPhones, audio may not play if the device is set to Silent Mode, which can affect certain media playback depending on system settings. Switching the device to Ringer Mode usually resolves this immediately. Since the lesson audio itself is working normally, this is typically a device setting rather than an issue with the lesson content. If the problem continues after switching off Silent Mode, please reply to our email with your device model and iOS version and we’ll gladly investigate further. Your email stamped 23 January concerning political bias about the Middle East is incredibly inappropriate for a platform that children and teens can use. You should be clear on the intention of your application. Yes, they are spoken on the continent, but that is a result of colonialism. We, as Africans, deserve a place that caters to and showcases our linguistic diversity without colonizers being included.
