What an awesome update! I was using the Akai SynthStation app for my SynthStation 25, but also liked the nLog better actually and used it more even than the Akai I just saw this update and was excited because I use an old iPhone and I thought app developers just focus on iPad apps for synth/DAW type apps I don't write reviews until I'm 100% stoked! And I am glad to say great job! Keep up the great work! An excellent piece of outboard gear! For studio work as well as live performances !!!!! ### 5/5 — Power, refinement *2012-07-21* NLog was one of the first synth apps for iOS, and is still one of the best. The programmer has a deep understanding of sound and sound algorithms, and he has continued to refine his apps with more features and more efficiency. For example, there are lots of music apps that can upload recordings TO SoundCloud, but how many are there that can download a recording FROM SoundCloud and either play it in the background or copy it to the clipboard? You can complain about the way patches are organized (by author instead of type), but not about the actual sound. Another feature that serious musicians will appreciate: NLog knows that it's not the only music app on your iPod or iPad, so it works smoothly with other instruments and controllers (such as Geo, Cantor, SoundPrism, ThumbJam, Little MIDI Machine, or Genome MIDI Sequencer). ### 3/5 — Sound goes out *2012-07-19, version 2.7* Cool but the sound goes away and I have to reload the app to get it back. I have reached out to the developer several times but have been ignored. Their ad is non removable and stays on every screen of your iPhone. FREE For existing users who have already paid for app. ### 2/5 — Strange app *2013-01-03, version 5.1.1* It does what it looks like i.e makes sounds come from each keys, not great and when I close the app it seems to leave a big red banner saying "midi synth" :/ very strange app ### 2/5 — Fundamentally flawed at present *2012-06-10, version 2.7* This is a fantastic synth apart from one very strange error - in monophonic mode, the release of notes overlap, making it polyphonic. This basically makes it non-authentic, and unusable for big electro house style basslines, which is a real shame as the timbres you can create have real potential. I am not able to use this app with my Akai synth station until this bug is sorted. The developer said he was sorting it soon. The possibilities are endless with options to change keyboard size, record ideas straight on the app, store custom made sounds and I couldn't imagine the countless amount of tones and noises to create. Once I figure out how to control it via a midi output device, I will truly unlock this apps potential. Has not crashed on me once and has shone new light on what is possible within the realms of a smartphone app.Recommended to all folks looking to make some serious tunes or just have some serious fun! Fortunately, the developer has kept with the times (this review after an April 2014 update), and we're left with an app that is AudioBus, Inter-App Audio, and Virtual MIDI compatible. The synth presets are more in the vein of the keyboards from the 1980's as opposed to the more modern atmospheric noises or arpeggiated sequencers, but I actually appreciate that. I am a guitar guy but was so impressed with the quality of sound and presentation of this application that I bought a midi keyboard controller just so I could play with it. It turned my 61 key paperweight into an amazing instrument! The tuneability of this app is overwhelming for a noob like me though I can imagine seasoned synth artists would totally dig it.
