Pretty disappointed that it doesn’t stay connected unless you have your iPhone app open. The Apple Watches wifi should be able to work just like it does on the iPad or iPhone. I want to look at my watch and see any NMEA data I want on a complication. ### 3/5 — Leaves a bit to be desired *2024-05-25* I love the idea of this app and it works pretty well! However, I did not find the UI intuitive (I’ve been an app developer for over 10 years). My biggest wish is AWA and TWA relative to my course - like my Raymarine instruments display. Perhaps this exists but I was unable to find it after 20 minutes of set up. The double tap to edit/add a gauge is difficult to discover. The green + and the multi blue plus are not obvious as to what they do. Overall, I’d suggest that the developer hand the app to a brand new user and watch them try to use it, noting the UX pain points and feature discoverability. A nice technical app and good integrations, but could use some polish to be great. I’m unaware of a better option on the App Store. **Developer response:** Dear User, sorry that NMEAremote's UI is not so intuitive for such an experienced app developer like you. And many thanks for your suggestion to do some UX and user acceptance tests. I (being developer more than 30 years) made these tests and put a lot of effort into the UX and UI design and the UI is totally compliant to Apple's user interface guidelines.  There is a hint at first use for the double tap to edit, so please read the message box next time before dismissing it. Further a green plus in a multi page environment when editing is common design language. Coming to your wish: I don't know what AWA and TWA relative to course means. Aren't they relative to course by definition? Anyway, next time you should think about an e-mail and we could discuss this.  I'm always open to improve NMEAremote, happy to help and find a solution. Last but not least I could not imagine why you need 20 minutes for the setup which is done in at least 2 minutes. I use a home made raspberry pi multiplexer using kplex, which broadcasts NMEA sentences over WiFi. I have had the problem of the app crashing on my newer iPad but not on my older one. The iOS update explains the problem, initially I excluded the problem sentences from being broadcast but this prevented AIS working in iNavX. The solution was to prevent the rogue sentences getting into NMEA remote, using the options in the program. After doing this all OK again. Thanks for the tip. I have been using this for years and it is great. ### 4/5 — There are issues :::: *2019-04-20* I wanted to reach out to any other buyers of the application. When you run the app for the first time and connect to (in my cases ‘Digital Yachts Wi-fi’) it crashes. It does it on the iPhone and the ipad running IOS 12 - I emailed the web developer and 24 hours later he emailed me back and advised there is a glitch on the application when being run on the latest IOS platforms. The app crashes out when it tries to process NMEA sentences starting with VDO and VDM. These are verification sentences and as far as I can see do not detract from the user ability of app. When you set up your NMEA Wi-fi path you can under rules block these sentences. After doing this the app runs a dream. One of the amazing things about this app it how clear the panel is. I am running this on a 12 inch IPad Pro and information is BIG, clear and precise. Great App and I would have given it five stars but the glitch means 4 stars. Hope this helps any other that may think of buying the app .... :-) ### 5/5 — Noch einen Wunsch :) *2015-11-28* Bitte einstellbare Nachtautomatik einbauen: Per Schieberegler einstellbare Umgebungshelligkeit, bei der das Thema automatisch auf ein anderes umspringt. Empfehlung zum Testen der App: GPS2IP Damit lassen sich von einem anderen iOS-Gerät mit GPS-Modul Position und Heading in NMEAremote live simulieren. Setup ist sehr einfach. Übrigens: Beim direkten Vergleich zwischen einem iPad 2 und einem iPad Air 2 gibt es keinen sichtbaren Leistungsunterschied. Beide Geräte setzen die Änderung von Werten ohne Verzögerung sofort in der Anzeige um. Als Lösung mit dem besten Display empfiehlt sich jedoch die Verwendung mit einem iPad Air, bei dem das Display mit einer Antireflex-Beschichtung versehen die besten Kontraste im Freien erzielt. ### 5/5 — Super app for sailors *2014-12-21* Easy to understand and can save thousands of dedicated gears. Absolut empfehlenswert. ### 5/5 — Sein Geld Wert! *2014-01-04* Benutze es an Bord mit dem Shipmodul miniplex 2 wi. Ich bin mit der App sehr zufrieden. Macht alles was es soll und die Einrichtung und Konfiguration der eigenen Anzeigen ist sehr einfach. Bei uns soll es auf einem Ipad als Multifunktionsdisplay arbeiten. Eine Anfrage per Mail wurde bei mir innerhalb von 12 Stunden beantwortet --> Top. Der Preis ist angemessen und nicht zu teuer. Wer sich seine Informationen an Bord gerne selber zusammenstellen möchte und eine klare und übersichtliche Darstellung mag sollte sich für dieses Programm entscheiden. Grundsätzlich stehen die Daten der Bordcomputer auf dem Display zur Verfügung, allerdings nicht dauerhaft, sondern geprägt durch nicht vorhersehbare Unterbrechungen. Die App verliert regelmäßig den Kontakt zur NMEA Quelle und findet diese erst dann wieder, wenn man das Programm neu startet. Als ernsthafte Unterstützung z.B. während einer Regatta demnach nicht brauchbar. Nette Spielerei um die Wassertemperatur auf dem IPad oder dem IPhone abzulesen, mehr leider nicht. ### 2/5 — No longer functional *2020-06-10* If you don’t already have a data source configured, the app just crashes when you try to add one. Es gibt auch einen Starttimer und alle möglichen berechneten Daten für Regattasegler. Damit ist die App den verbreiteten Regattacomputern deutlich überlegen - wenn man denn ein Handy einsetzen kann. Nebenbei auch noch gekoppelt mit tollem Support. ### 5/5 — Must have NMEA app *2023-02-27* I am using the NMEAremote app with my Quark Elec A026+ AIS Multiplexer and gives me all the NMEA0183 and NMEA2000 data I need on my WiFi only iPad. I get AIS data, GPS position, SOG, COG, Depth, Sea Water Temperature,etc. I will soon add Wind data from the NMEA2000 wind sensor and battery, charging and tank level level data from Victron Energy Cerbo GX. A great app with tons of customisations. You can easily add pages and choose the layout and then add the data elements you need. I use this app underway all the time. I miss it. Please update soon! Update: I did figure out how to turn off sentences that make crash (which aren’t even on my network anyway). This is the most useful app I have in my arsenal. I don’t sail with out it.
