### 2/5 — UI isn’t compatible to iPad

*2025-12-01, version 8.0.5*

Barely can set sleep timer on iPad. The timer list is only partially shown on iPad.

### 3/5 — Poor sound

*2025-07-21*

Great coverage of albums but, no matter what data connection I use (WiFi or 4g) the audio quality is terrible. It sounds ‘robotic’ and glitchy as if it’s buffering or over compressed . If I listen via the web/browser the sound is fine, so I can only conclude the problem is the app 😣

### 2/5 — Search button is gone

*2025-04-03*

Please, fix the problem on phone and pad application! There's no way to search any longer!

### 4/5 — Essential app

*2025-03-07, version 7.0.6*

Great app with a fantastic selection of music. Would be nice if it supported dark mode and interactive widgets.

### 3/5 — Great music just a little slow

*2024-11-04, version 7.0.6*

Great music selection and sound quality, the app is just slow to load everything.

### 3/5 — Amazing selection, sub-par interface

*2024-08-21*

For classical music, it’s tough to beat the sheer breadth and depth of the Naxos Music Library. The app’s interface for browsing and listening is not on par with the best commercial apps, but it’s serviceable and has allowed me to find both old favorites and some new treasures in the classical realm. My biggest complaint is the app’s odd fixation on “playlists” (consisting of individual tracks) as the primary mechanism for saving and organizing pieces i want to listen to again later. While the app is excellent at highlighting new and featured albums, about the only way to save albums as albums for future listening is to designate them as “favorites.” This is a welcome feature, as far as it goes, but it puts all favorites in one long list (with newest selections at the top) and I would really like a way to organize my favorite albums under named (by me) categories, whether called playlists or themes or folders. I also wish the app could play back tracks from my favorites list randomly, turning my ever-expanding favorites list into my own personal classical station.

### 3/5 — Love Naxos, not the interface

*2023-09-08*

As others have commented, the interface could use improvement, but I love the breadth and selection. A huge plus is that you can (temporarily) download for offline listening, great for walking around or taking in the car, but the big DOWNSIDE to this is that this app logs you out at the drop of a hat. Often I load up an album to listen to when not on wifi, only to find that when I want to listen to those tracks, the app wants me to log in again, which I can’t do without turning the app’s cell data on, which kind of defeats the whole thing. Also, who wants to deal with being in “login purgatory” every time you leave the house? Another annoyance is that, even on iPads, the app only appears in “portrait” orientation, which is super annoying whenever you are using the iPad in a keyboard case that works only in landscape mode. Would love to see a couple changes to the interface, as the music selection is fantastic.

### 4/5 — Good but no landscape mode

*2023-03-07, version 6.0.5*

No real complaints other than it's rather annoying that the app only displays in portrait mode, not ideal when using it on iPad

### 3/5 — Amazing selection, sub-par interface

*2023-02-26*

For classical music, it’s tough to beat the sheer breadth and depth of the Naxos Music Library. The app’s interface for browsing and listening is not on par with the best commercial apps, but it’s serviceable and has allowed me to find both old favorites and some new treasures in the classical realm. My biggest complaint is the app’s odd fixation on “playlists” as the primary mechanism for saving and organizing music. While the app is excellent at highlighting new and featured albums, I see no obvious way to save albums as albums, apart from moving all the tracks on an album into a playlist and manually naming it something I hope I can recognize in the future. I would love to be able to move a newfound album into a manually defined favorite folder or category in one step—and then view my favorites as the same mini-album covers shown in “new” and “featured”—but I see no way to do that.

### 4/5 — Offline Access Problematic

*2022-12-22, version 6.0.3*

It is very difficult to use this app offline (without internet) as you have to sign in each time you access it. If you don’t have internet connection, you cannot sign in. This sort of defeats the purpose of offline access. Please make it so that users don’t have to sign in every time they access the app.

### 2/5 — Too much phone storage used

*2022-12-20, version 6.0.2*

The app takes more than 1GB memory of my phone. That’s ridiculous!
The gapless playback is awesome. Hope can add shortcuts for accessing the album page of the music being played.

### 2/5 — Super slow

*2022-11-07, version 5.0.17*

I spend more time waiting for the app to load than listening to music

### 2/5 — Naxos Leaves Much to be Desired

*2022-09-27, version 5.0.17*

Though the library itself is comprehensive and amazing the app itself is lacking. No horizontal rotation, a colour scheme that hides the cursor in the search dialog, and a flakey saved playlists function are a few of its issues.

Additionally not enough information is stored in the system regarding the different recordings. Screen captures of the album covers are not as useful as the flipside of the cover could possibly be. Ideally the system would also capture and enclosure text of the recording but I can imagine would a huge task this could be.

Bottom line: Great service. Poor app.

### 2/5 — Marvellous selection, terrible app

*2022-05-14, version 5.0.17*

The selection of music is massive and wonderful, but the app itself is poorly designed: it’s full of bugs, it routinely crashes, and its search function is truly lazy and awful. I have access for free through my university, so I can gratefully deal with the crap app, but don’t pay money for this. The selection is amazing, the app is dreadful.

### 4/5 — Works well when it works.. Not cleaner how to signup with library

*2021-04-13, version 5.0.17*

The signup thought library for the app is not clear, library doesn't tell you, Naxos doesn't tell you. The key is to press the icon on the left "mobile access" and follow the instructions, either sign in through library first and then create account or vice versa, don't know.

### 3/5 — Great content. App needs some TLC

*2020-07-20*

There are a few annoying bugs.

Sometimes I get logged out unexpectedly.

Sometimes the back button doesn't take you back to the same part of the list you left, so you have to scroll all the way down again. It's time consuming and easy to get lost.

And various other glitches that probably shouldn't have passed QA testing.

### 4/5 — A more recent review

*2019-12-25*

The latest version has worked flawlessly for the last few days. I have streamed 7 or 8 albums with no problems. I’ve been an NML subscriber for three years or so but only through Safari on my laptop. The iOS app works now works fine. However, the last I checked the iPadOS version continues to have a hiccup at the beginning of each track. I will give it 5 stars when the iPadOS glitch is worked out.

### 2/5 — Constant Crashes

*2019-11-30, version 5.0.14*

Music catalogue is top notch but I can hardly get through a song before the app crashes. It used to be better.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Basic settings are problematic

*2026-07-21*

Hi, the Naxos classical music app switches to the Portrait mode (from the landscape mode)at login and stubbornly persists in this mode after. There seems to be no way to change this in any settings. Neither the Naxos Jazz music library nor the Naxos world music library do this –they're both functional and stay in the same landscape mode after logging in while playing or browsing. Would you be able to fix this issue in the classical music app please? Thank you

### 1/5 — login session ends too quickly

*2025-01-16, version 7.0.6*

Are you afraid of people stealing money from your app? Login expires ridiculously fast. Cannot even finish a symphony

### 1/5 — Best musical selection, worst app

*2024-01-14*

I’m torn as others are here. I subscribed for 3 years and finally stopped because as others have mentioned you get periodically auto-logged off, making offline listening a game of chance. The interface is nearly impossible for use on tablets/iPads. I love the music selection, but I need a break. I hope Naxos upgrades their app or goes with a different software developer. A library this good deserves a first rate app. For now I’m sitting on the sidelines unsubscribed and waiting.

### 1/5 — Session expired

*2023-03-08, version 6.0.5*

I keep getting logged out by the app forcibly even if it’s been one day and having selected “remember me.”

### 1/5 — Worst paid streaming app

*2021-11-08*

This app constantly has issues with unavailable tracks which worked earlier in the day or will not load. The delay between tracks which segue into another is really unacceptable for a PAID service only app. Especially compared to non classical focus apps, this really has a lot of problems making it at times just unusable as a fully paid app. Reloading an app multiple times is not fantastic nor convenient. Would not use if I was not a student using a university login, but because so few sites offer classical music only this is really the only choice as most universities are subscribed. I would not recommend the app. I would say to use the laptop site version over this if you have to use service.
Another aspect is how the app stops playing when you are in other apps like Facebook or something and it won’t pick back up unless you go to the app to hit play again or pull down to tap play.

### 1/5 — Worst app ever from a shady company!

*2020-04-08*

The company runs by some charlatans that the only thing they care about is money. They charge a lot but do not have even decency to provide an app that works. Every now and then it logs you out and does not recognize you and your password and does not let you in even when you change your password. Guys do not be cheap please provide us with Face recognition. You can find some music content that they claim they have, but actually they just have the cover and you cannot have access to their contents. I tried to email them several times and receive no response back. You create a playlist for yourself then it is gone after a few days for some unknown reasons. They do absolutely nothing to improve their apps.

### 1/5 — Please fix it, Naxos!

*2019-11-24*

This is an incredible database of music I access through my public library. It has lately (fall 2019) become unusable, crashing incessantly in the middle of tracks. I’ve tried playing albums “offline,” I’ve tried disabling background refresh. I just managed to play two whole albums in a row without incident and thought you’d fixed the problem—but no, here it is again. Crash crash crash. Please fix this portal to your service, Naxos!

### 1/5 — Barely will play a single whole track now

*2019-11-19*

This app always had issues but recently (Fall 2019) it has become basically unusable. You start playing a track and it will stop on its own at an arbitrary point, sometimes only a minute or two later, and rarely more than five minutes in. Nothing I’ve tried seems to make a difference, like keeping the focus on the app or leaving the screen on. Then you have to reopen the app and either play the track from the beginning or even find the album from scratch.

### 1/5 — Keeps crashing

*2019-10-17*

Not sure it’s the last iOS update, but what used to work doesn’t anymore. Are the files corrupt? Almost all or all the recordings will stop in the midst of a movement at some point. Do not pay for a suscription now.

### 1/5 — Crashes while playing

*2019-10-14, version 5.0.14*

Crashes all the time while playing, can hardly get through a longer piece without crashing

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Exceptional Music Selection

*2024-03-29*

As another poster commented, the app user interface could use some tweaking. I’ve found the desktop version a far more satisfactory experience, particularly the option to shuffle ALL of my favorite songs from favorite albums. It’s not an option on the mobile app. Unlike many classical music lovers I’m not fussy about movements in any particular order when I’m on the go. It’s unfortunate that subscription costs prevent more libraries from signing up. It’s a great classical music resource. Thank You!

### 5/5 — I lobe

*2024-02-11, version 7.0.1*

Awesome. Just amke login easy

### 5/5 — Excellent classical music app!

*2020-02-23*

This app works well and has a huge & varied range of recordings to choose from. And no audio adverts intrude on the listening!
Easy to search for particular pieces/instruments' pieces/etc. Thanks!

### 5/5 — Login...

*2018-09-24, version 5.0.7*

again login error :/

### 5/5 — Amazing app

*2018-09-12, version 5.0.6*

This app has large song collection, and the playlists are great! I’m loving the offline feature. There are also educational audios which are kind of like podcasts. After discovering this I’d have to say it’s my favorite app and I shall be using it daily! No more need for Spotify or Apple Music now 😂

### 5/5 — Great App - Great Support

*2015-01-06, version 4.2*

This version fixed a freezing problem I’d had with the previous one. While the service isn’t cheap, I personally think it’s a great value when I consider I can listen on demand to practically any classical composition I come across in reading and concert programs or that simply come to mind. And I had an exceptional experience with customer service. When I reported a problem, they promptly let me know they were working on a fix, and when the update was issued they let me know and enquired if it had solved the problem. Well done.

### 5/5 — Heaven if you qualify

*2014-11-05, version 4.1*

Listen to any classical piece whenever you like, for free, if you're a student or you work for an organization that subscribes.

Great app for great music.

### 5/5 — Does not work on iPhone6

*2014-10-22, version 4.0*

But want to encourage developers, thus a five-star!

### 5/5 — I've been waiting for this update for forever!

*2014-09-24, version 4.0*

Thank you for the update!

### 5/5 — Vast improvement

*2014-09-24, version 4.0*

You can finally scrub through tracks! Layout is much better and looks modernized. Best music app on the market!
