## What is Noctiluca Navigator?

Noctiluca Navigator is a client app for 'Noctiluca Server', a remote desktop app for macOS.

Leveraging our proprietary Sirius protocol and cutting-edge technologies, it delivers the ultimate remote desktop experience.

[Features]
QUIC Transport — QUIC serves as the primary transport layer for the Sirius protocol, providing low latency and high throughput optimized for remote control.
Hardware-Accelerated Decoding — Utilizes iPhone / iPad hardware video acceleration to minimize CPU load and ensure smooth screen playback.
Automatic Quality Adjustment — Optimizes screen quality in real time based on network conditions.
Multi-Display Support — Fully supports multi-head hosts, allowing you to remotely control multiple monitors.
Customizable Codec Settings — Advanced users can fine-tune codec settings to optimize for their network environment and preferences. A wide range of options is available, including YUV 4:4:4, lossless mode, and HiDPI (Retina resolution) support.
TLS 1.3 Encryption — All remote sessions are secured with TLS 1.3, providing strong encryption and perfect forward secrecy. This prevents data from being intercepted or tampered with over the network.
'Known-Hosts' System — Given the nature of remote control, it is often impractical for every server to obtain a certificate from a trusted certificate authority. Noctiluca Navigator adopts a 'known-hosts' system that stores the server's certificate information on first connection and verifies it on subsequent connections, preventing man-in-the-middle attacks and protecting users from connecting to untrusted servers.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 0.10.0 — 2026-05-27

[Important Changes]
- Starting from this version, Noctiluca Navigator is now officially open-source software under the GPLv2 license! Anyone can freely access the source code on GitHub at 'team-unstablers/NoctilucaServer'.

[New Features]
- Added File System Access (fsaccess) feature: You can now mount your iOS device as backing storage on the host, allowing you to directly read and write files on your iOS device.

### 0.9.11 — 2026-05-01

[Hotfix]
- Fixed an issue where screen projection would not pause when the app was sent to the background. (Found in 0.9.10)

### 0.9.10 — 2026-04-29

This update focuses on stability improvements. Noctiluca Navigator has been migrated to Swift 6, eliminating numerous data races at their root.

[New Features]
- VP8 codec support added (especially useful when the host's macOS runs in a virtual machine)
- Change the host's display layout, resolution, and primary display directly from the client
- UI for creating and removing virtual displays
- iPad: Detach the host's secondary display into its own window (experimental, opt-in)

[Stability]
- Numerous data races eliminated through the Swift 6 migration
- Automatic recovery when the host's display disconnects
- Fixed a leak of previous projection sessions when switching displays
- Blocked duplicate subscribe requests for the same display
- Server-side termination reasons (ServerNotice) are now clearly shown to the user

[Bug Fixes]
- Fixed a crash when ending multi-display sessions
- Fixed multiple vulnerabilities in clipboard / file transfer channels

[Removed]
- Tiling image codecs (MJPG / ZRLE / WebP) removed — please use VP8 as the replacement

### 0.9.9 — 2026-03-30

[Improvements]

1. Improved File Transfer Stability

- Fixed a crash that occurred when a file transfer failed.
- Special files (such as block devices) are now rejected from transfer.

2. Improved Third-Party Server Compatibility

- Although the Sirius protocol specifies support for both AVCC and Annex-B bitstream formats, Noctiluca Navigator was not handling them correctly. This has been fixed.

3. Fixed Audio Projection Being Unconditionally Enabled

- The user's audio projection preference is now properly respected.

### 0.9.8 — 2026-03-26

[New Features]
- Starting with this version, clipboard sharing is now supported.

[Improvements]
- Fixed an issue where the app could become unresponsive due to an intermittent deadlock when disconnecting from a remote session.
- Fixed an issue where a circular reference involving CADisplayLink caused related objects to remain in memory after disconnecting from a session.
