NômKey is a modern keyboard for typing Chữ Nôm and Hán-Nôm on iPhone, built to make Vietnam's historical script easy to write in everyday apps. TYPE NATURALLY • Telex and VNI input: type Vietnamese the way you already do (viet → việt). • As you type, NômKey suggests the matching Chữ Nôm and Hán characters, ranked by real usage. • Swipe typing: glide across the keys and choose from smart word suggestions. • Numbers, punctuation, and symbol layers, with Hán-Nôm numerals on long-press. TYPE WHOLE PHRASES • Continuous phrase input: type a full sentence and convert it to Chữ Nôm at once, like a Chinese or Japanese IME. On by default. • Tap the preview to review and fix any character before you commit, or edit a Latin word in place. • The keyboard learns the readings you commit, so your favourites come up first. SMART & PERSONAL • Suggestions learn from your choices over time: the characters you use rise to the top. • Context-aware ranking based on the character you just typed. • Long-press vowels for the full set of tone marks (á à ả ã ạ â ấ ầ …). Predictive Vietnamese word suggestions: after a word, tap the likely next word to build a phrase quickly. Flexible tone typing: the tone key lands on the correct vowel wherever you type it (hoaf, hofa, gifa all read correctly). Read Nôm: long-press a character to copy it or its reading for dictionary lookup. More forgiving keys with the native key-click sound; double-tap backspace clears the current syllable. New options: turn the send-as-picture chip on or off, and reset learned typing. Redesigned suggestion bar: the Quốc Ngữ reading sits on its own line, keeping the Nôm suggestions front and center. Next-character suggestions predict the character you are likely to type next, so you can build a phrase with a tap. Vietnamese autocorrect gently fixes common typos as you type. Easier phrase editing: insert a character right after the one you are editing, and tap and hold to drag characters into a new order. Better Quốc Ngữ to Nôm conversion, and a cleaner image when you send Nôm as a picture. Smarter Nôm suggestions, drawn from a literary corpus and from the characters you choose most, so the right character comes up more often. Send as image now uses a cleaner light or dark card you can tap to open full screen. Fixed an issue where a key could stay pressed after lifting your finger. Tap the keycap button while composing, or highlight text and tap it. • Smarter suggestions: the character that reads exactly the way you typed now comes first. • Rare characters that some devices couldn't draw now display throughout the app. • Fixes to word splitting, tap-to-fix editing, and overall typing feel. ### 1.8 — 2026-07-14 The Diễn Nôm reader is more accurate: readings now use aligned classical texts (Truyện Kiều, Lục Vân Tiên) plus sentence context, so tricky characters read correctly, and uncertain ones are marked so you can check them. New Quốc Ngữ mode: NomKey now also works as a standard Vietnamese keyboard with the same Telex typing and no-space word splitting, switchable with the 喃 / việt button or in Settings.
