Then you can actually turn off the VPN, but remember to turn it back on when you are done so you continue to participate in the study. The VPN will slow down your internet and makes this study hard to participate in. The app has no purpose after the VPN has been installed. There are a lot of issues that need to be addressed before the majority of the community that are being studied decide to quit. ### 1/5 — It sas you are sending my information out of the United States *2020-09-26, version 1.0.1* I can not use any banking sites because it sas you are sharing my data with sources outside of the USA. ### 1/5 — App never would load *2020-09-26, version 1.0.1* The support email folks were not helpful. I did everything they said and it would never work. I told them it wouldn’t work and they kept telling me to do the same thing. I was willing to put up with my internet slowing to a crawl, but my phone actually became useless. I couldn’t use several apps or open websites because the VPN was gobbling up any connectivity I had, even when I had full bars and a strong WiFi connection. I added to be a part of the no IG for 6 weeks incentive, but when it’s making all your apps crash, it’s just not worth it. You should really fix it if you really want to gather your info right. Makes participating very difficult. ### 1/5 — App is fine without the VPN profile *2020-09-22, version 1.0.1* But once you download the VPN profile, your phone turns into a brick. I couldn’t access anything through Safari at all. I had to remove it from my phone just to be able to email support so they could tell me some unhelpful stuff about restarting/clearing your cache/cookies. I just removed the VPN and said whatever. Isn’t worth the $5 to not have a working phone when you need it. I’d love to help out with the research, but this app/VPN/whatever needs a major revamp first. I don’t know how you all will collect any data! ### 1/5 — Interferes with other apps *2020-09-22, version 1.0.1* After downloading the profile associated with this study and app, I was unable to check my bank account balance, send messages via Slack, or open messages on Snapchat. It even interfered with an software upgrade I attempted to install on my Apple Watch. After deleting the profile. I regained the ability to access all of these apps and the upgrade was successful (after multiple failed attempts while connected to their VPN). ### 1/5 — NOT SAFE *2020-09-22, version 1.0.1* The app interferes with my phone connecting through car. I can’t use my hands free technology- not safe at all! It also interferes with other apps by slowing them down or not allowing to work at all. Sorry, but SAFETY FIRST! Why bother making something like this? ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Messes phone up! *2020-12-27, version 1.0.1* I downloaded this for a study and they did not pay me what they should then when study concluded, the app messed up my phone and I could not access internet, spent several hours at phone carrier store to figure out this app was causing the problem. Beware!!! ### 1/5 — Don’t trust them *2020-12-11, version 1.0.1* I took their surveys and at first they honored their rewards for it. Then the 2nd to last one I took I wasn’t given any reward for it until I emailed them about it. It took a few days but they finally gave it to me. Now this last survey they’re giving me the run around and trying to tell me to contact other people who tell me to contact the other person, also known as the run around. What liars. If this is how they conduct themselves during their information gathering I wouldn’t be at all surprised that their study is compromised too. I’ve cleared everything they’ve told me to and followed the steps and it makes absolutely no difference, at all. This VPN isn’t configured right or something. I was alerted when my desktop went nuts with malware warnings. So I deleted the app. You’d think you’d be done with this? Nope. They’re still tracking you, kids. It took the Apple folks a bit to figure it out, but finally we rid my phone of the profile it leaves behind that not only tracks you, app or not, causes pop up warnings all over your phone. How is a study going to track your data if you cannot even access anything on your phone?! ### 1/5 — Like a Brick *2020-10-03, version 1.0.1* Like so many other reviewers, I wanted to contribute to this research study. However, the VPN disrupts the function of my phone to the point where it’s useless. I can’t use Safari, updates are painfully slow, and anything that requires location services never loads. I’m also not impressed by the communication from the team conducting the study. None of my emails mentioned an app until I received a message about the lack of data from my phone. I also emailed the study a few weeks ago to alert them to the issues I was experiencing: no response. ### 1/5 — Connectivity issues galore *2020-10-03, version 1.0.1* DO NOT TRY TO EDIT WIKIPEDIA ARTICLES WHILE THE VPN IS CONNECTED. I just got a year-long ban notice on my account because the IP address the VPN uses is flagged. Thanks a lot, guys. Like most people here, I have been experiencing all sorts of issues with internet connectivity since downloading this app and installing the VPN. I can only connect to my HomePod and Apple TV about half the time now, even after restarting the phone or going in and out of airplane mode. The Weather app only loads when it wants to, and won’t show information on my watch most of the time. Most apps that require location services (with the exception of mapping apps, thank goodness) only work if I toggle the VPN off. It really makes me wonder if it is worth the pittance offered by the research company to use this app. Incredibly annoying. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — I haven’t had any problems *2020-10-31, version 1.0.1* I’ve had this installed on my phone for about 2 months now. I haven’t had any problems with it. I’m sure it’s me. ### 2/5 — Messes with WiFi connection on iPhone *2020-12-05, version 1.0.1* I liked being paid for participation in this study and I stuck with it for a few months, but this vpn makes my phone disconnect from wifi constantly and it’s super hard to get my iPhone to reconnect even though it will display that it’s connected already. It was racking up my data usage and making everything on my phone take 10x longer to do with always having to wait for internet to connect. I had to give up. ### 2/5 — It works - sometimes ... *2020-10-25, version 1.0.1* Installed on iPad with iOS 13.7 After booting the iPad, things work fine - for while. Then, network connectivity for many things stops working. FaceBook seems ok during these failures however other apps like DoT’ AutoAp, Busuu, DuoLingo, Google News, and the Apple App Store can’t access the network at all. Even when the network is working, FaceTime can’t make calls. My iPad only works on WiFi, cellular data is completely dead. A reboot restores most app connectivity for a while - I’ve done several today 😞 Tech support’s advice was to “ clear the cache and delete cookies” meaning they assume my problem is using a browser - not so ... If you want a stable, working iPad don’t install this. If you do install it, don’t expect any meaningful help from tech support. When told that FaceTime no longer worked, their response was “We’re sorry....” No fix. No work-around. No mention of any future fix. Their position is, apparently, to bad, so sad, have a nice day! Note that Prime Video will not play videos over a VPN. If you depend on Prime Video for entertainment you won’t be able to use it with this installed. I expect Netflix will similarly refuse to play videos over the VPN. I’ve also had many of the “challenges” other have mentioned. All of the problems are the reason I have NOT installed this on my phone - it needs to work. If my iPad is less than fully functional, I can cope for a few weeks. ### 2/5 — Phone issues *2020-10-03, version 1.0.1* Slows usage of apps way down. Takes forever for games or internet to load. Almost ready to give up. ### 2/5 — How much of your digital life are you willing to loose *2020-09-27, version 1.0.1* I hope the creators get this and can come up with a solution...this app and features necessary for the study installs a VPN that disrupts any part of your digital life that is location based. When I can get it to turn off for a few seconds and load my game, It works. We should be able to turn off the VPN for 1 minute and write an explanation to continue with the study. It’s been less than a week and I’m questioning if I’m gonna make it to the end. My phone has slowed some but the location may be the killer.
