## What is NostrKey Web Extension?

NostrKey is a Safari extension for macOS and iOS that manages your Nostr identities and signs events on your behalf — your private keys never touch the websites you visit.

### 1.8.3 — 2026-08-14

This update makes the lock screen honest and closes out an issue from 1.8.1.

If you removed your master password on version 1.8.1, some of your keys could have stayed secured under that old password while NostrKey reported no password was set. Your keys were never lost or exposed. They stayed encrypted the whole time. NostrKey now detects that state, says so plainly, and restores access when you enter that old password once.

Also in this update: removing or changing your master password now reports any key it could not convert instead of staying quiet. Clearer wording everywhere: keys without a master password are still encrypted on your device with a device key. iPhone: the panel no longer gets clipped at the right edge of the half screen view.

### 1.8.2 — 2026-08-13

A ground-up redesign, with the security work to back it.

- Signing you can read: every request shows the app, what it's asking for in plain words, and the full event before you approve. Nothing gets signed behind your back.
- Every identity in one place: your keys, relays, and per-app permissions now live on each identity.
- Made to fit you: three looks (Console, Instrument, Analog), light or dark, plus text size, high contrast, and reduced motion.
- Your keys, kept safe: a master password encrypts them on your device with auto-lock, and you can keep an encrypted backup in your own iCloud Drive or Files folder, so you can recover even if you remove the extension.
- Solid underneath: hardened key storage and a much larger automated test suite.

Free, open source, no tracking. Same as always.
