### 5/5 — Plan and analyze your paintings

*2025-02-03*

Such a great tool for seeing shapes and values first. And for identifying why your painting is not coming across as exciting as your subject.

### 5/5 — art tool for notan

*2024-05-11, version 3.01*

artists you know how important it is to get values right. this app lets you create a symphony of values and get good values-think.

### 5/5 — Exceptional

*2024-02-18*

Worth it! Quick, straight, forward and clear cut. I am so glad to come across this app.
I heard an artist on You Tube mention it. It removes the stuffing around I used to do in trying to simplify Values in my photos app.
This has made my own art easier to implement and is also helpful when running art tutorials.

### 5/5 — Wonderful

*2022-07-01*

Simple and eye-opening. The only thing I wish to change would be to disable that terrible sound when you try to set levels too high or low.

*2021-06-24, version 2.21*

I'm an art insturtor of adults in Colorado and have found this app to be indespencable in teaching values. It's simple to use and effortlessly comunicates visiually the most powerful tool in art, values. I use this tool almost daily.
Bravo, to you, good people at Notanizer!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — How do i remove app

*2025-08-11, version 3.1*

How do I remove this app from my apps? I do not want to pay a monthly fee for this. There’s no way to remove it. Please let me know.

### 1/5 — notan nowork on mac

*2024-06-09, version 3.01*

I downloaded to my mac and images would just come out white.

### 1/5 — Totally disappointing

*2019-11-01, version 1.93*

Worked fine on my iPad Air for 30 days. Then one day it would not open. Such a rip off.

### 1/5 — Total Rip Off

*2016-12-13, version 1.1*

I can't believe I paid $1.99 for this horribly rudimentary, pointless app. This should be free for the first use and then charge people if they find a use for a slider that takes decent pictures from bad to unrecognizable. Maybe there is some use for this out in the world but for art and more specifically Notan, no. A resounding, definitive no.

### 2/5 — Why?

*2025-07-30, version 3.01*

I paid for this app, why are you stamping your watermark on my prints?

### 2/5 — Limited Features

*2022-12-31, version 2.22*

I really wish there were a way to save a NAMED file to my mac. The only current option I see is to save it to the Apple Photos app with a predefined name.

Saving your image in the folder of your choice seems like an essential feature that should be there. I should not have to do multiple steps to get one image to my chosen location.

### 2/5 — Waste of $2

*2020-09-05*

Almost any free photo or drawing app can do this — usually better. That’s why there is no try before you buy feature.

### 3/5 — macOS - Opening sidebar overlays slider controls and prevents their use

*2024-06-29*

The sidebar is acting as a blocking dialog box, preventing interaction with the rest of the app while open. It overlays the slider and increment controls, and the image if the dimensions allow it.

The sidebar should function independantly and the image and slider should be resized to fit wile remaining operable.

A useful app all the same, helping me to visualise my underpainting.

**Developer response:** Im glad you are finding our app useful for your artwork and looking forward to seeing some of your work.

I’m looking at my version and not seeing the behavior that you are. Clicking the sidebar button opens the sidebar. Tapping a project or selecting a new image closes the sidebar. Clicking the sidebar button or the image dismisses the sidebar and all controls size appropriately to the window and function as normal.

Maybe there is a version of the OS you are using that may be causing a different behavior. Please tap the help and info button and reach out to us via email so we can help resolve your issue.

### 4/5 — Great but one change would improve it

*2022-05-24*

The improvement would be when accessing Photos for it to retain the position of rhe accessed picture so that one didn’t have to scroll all the way through to the same position when accessing a new photo from the same batch.

**Developer response:** Actually that is in the works along with a new projects selection so you can work on several projects at once

### 4/5 — Update issues

*2020-06-26*

I like this app a lot, I use it all the time to adjust the values in my paintings. Since the last update however I have lost the ability to export images. When I try to export the app crashes on my iPad. On my iPhone when I try to export the export to photos option just doesn’t come up.
Please fix. My work around for now is to take a screen shot to save the adjusted image and just crop to the image itself.

**Developer response:** Thank you for the review! However could you reach out to us using the link in the app (at the bottom of the info page of directions) and let’s see what’s going on.

*2025-06-19*

### 5/5 — Must have app

*2025-02-24*

I’m an artist. Have been all my life. Recently I have started painting. I paint things that fuel my passion. If you paint Notanizer is a must have app. You can take any photo and let Notanizer do its thing and your imagination is endless. Give it a try.
