The YouTube video I went to visit was about another app on the desktop. When I try to take a photograph inside the app it crashes, but if I process a photograph, it’s already been taken through the camera application, it does a great job of recognizing the music—it’s worth it for that, but I’m disappointed that I can’t actually write music with it. ### 4/5 — It does what it does *2024-06-09* There are surprisingly few programs that transcribe graphical music notation, I guess that speaks to the complexity of what the software does. It isn’t perfect, but with patience, it’s a good substitute for pencil and paper, but it hasn’t replaced my notation software for producing score ps for distribution. ### 3/5 — Has great potential but too expensive. *2020-06-15, version 4.1.1.0* This app is really a great concept and it’s fun to muck around with it but there are too many limitations at this stage. Too many things either don’t work or are too hard to get working therefore it becomes useless for those trying to compose. It is very expensive considering these limitations. First thing I noticed is the handwriting recognition is best I’ve used. I love the two staff layout , one for your handwriting and other the computer version. Sometimes in other apps, it’s confusing when the app realize your writing before your finished and you can’t see your original idea, here the staff w your original idea is never changed, it feels like a separate sketch paper on one staff and the computer interpretation on the other. Also very easy to enter notes between existing notes and a separate pen for comments is nice! ### 1/5 — Unbrauchbar *2019-05-25* Sobald es um mehr als einfachste Noten geht, unbrauchbar! Beispiele: Die Songtextangabe unter den Noten ist eine Katastrophe, das Programm schreibt die Silben irgendwohin, nur nicht unter die passenden Noten. Außerdem werden Songtexte unter der Melodie und Akkorde über der Melodie ineinander geschrieben, Zeilenabstand passt also nicht. Ebenso die geschachtelten Wiederholungen, sie streichen die Akkorde durch, also wieder ein Problem mit dem Zeilenabstand. Notenerkennung. Haltebögen werden bei mir immer doppelt geschrieben. Ansonsten nervt dass alles transponiert wird, Akkorde aber nicht. Schade. Und das zu dem teuren Preis - eine Frechheit!!! ### 4/5 — Notate me *2019-03-05, version 4.1.1.0* As a learner, I am happy enough with the app itself, with only minor complaints. I would like more features added, but for now, it satisfies my need. My biggest problem is the crashing. It crashes every time I use it. This is very frustrating especially as I’ve spent possibly 2 hours writing something out. I’d also like to be able to import pdf sheet music from my drive and export directly to forScore. While the lite free version worked wonderfully, converting the partial top parts of scanned sheets, PhotoScore (full) shows a blank list of photos (though flashed the list in milliseconds). Please fix bug or refund my Apple apps purchase. ### 4/5 — Needs more symbols *2018-07-23, version 4.1.1.0* Should include reverse flats and other symbols otherwise I like this app. Also more instruments. It is worth persevering with it so it learns your style, which does take time. Do NOT buy the in-app Photoscore feature! The app is quite difficult to use, and the Photoscore feature crashes every time I try to open it on iPhone. And I only tried to open on iPhone because it was scanning an illegible blur on iPad, and I thought the iPhone camera might do a better job taking a photo of my page of sheet music. The Photoscore pictures are illegible. Ultimately, I was not successful importing sheet music using Photoscore. It seems impossible to get a refund for a feature that doesn’t work and crashes. Disappointing. This is an ex application. I thought this app would become a great must-have tool. Instead, it hasn’t been updated in four years. Handwriting recognition is excellent. Photo recognition app worked amazingly well on some old music books I purchased many years ago. Having the image converted and played was well worth the purchase! ### 5/5 — Useful App! *2019-02-22* I use Notate Me to transcribe manuscripts of (mostly) Baroque music into modern notation and have found the app to be quick to learn and generally very useful. There are a few things that can be frustrating (Baroque ornamentation, for one!) and I do wish grace notes (with and without slashes through the stems) were included in the menu of notations you can add -- but overall I would recommend this app. It's pricey, but not so much compared to the heavy duty music-processing programs like Sibelius. ### 5/5 — Have never had a problem *2017-06-20, version 4.0.3.0* I'm surprised by all the negative comments. I love this app and use it with my piano students who are interested in composition. I have iPad Pro 12.9 and Apple Pencil and it notates so easily. Of course, when I have a complex pattern it often gets it wrong first time, but after I fix it, it seems to get it right every time after that. The copy and paste feature is a great time saver. I've been using NotateMe as an essential part of my mobile workflow for a while - its PhotoScore plugin is often invaluable for doing things quickly. As such, I'm so pleased that the Neuratron developers have resolved the issues with it. Thank you. ### 5/5 — iPad Pro + Apple Pencil = Win *2016-03-31, version 3.1.0.0* I had previously used the app with a simple rubber-tip stylus, and wasn't thrilled. It was okay for quick sketches, but nothing for any substantial productivity. Thanks to my tax refund, I bought an iPad Pro (the 12" version) and an Apple Pencil - the precision of the pencil makes this app game-changing. After trying out the lite version I immediately bought the full version as well as the photoscore IAP. A bit pricy for an iOS app, sure, but look at the desktop alternatives. All expensive and none of them work well, and the amount of trouble one has to go through to get the job done. You have to first scan the score in in the right format and resolution(a bit difficult if the music is part of a book), have it converted(with questionable accuracy), then transferred to your iOS device. With this app you can have the sheet converted to MIDI in less than a minute! I have to explore the manual entry method a bit more but what I have tried I am loving it. Been trying out a few of the notation apps and all are painful to use. The iOS platform is just perfect for Photoscore. Now when my kids have a new piano piece to learn I can immediately have the music sheet captured and play back to them within a couple of minutes. My daughter needed to pick a song out of a few to learn for her Esttedford performance and I could let her listen to each piece before she decided which one to learn. Great for practising and getting a feel for the song before starting. I can also scan any of my hundreds of music sheet in, have them converted to MIDI and use them in any of my composing apps and DAW. Extensive exporting options are available, and GM MIDI compatible too. :) Like all desktop alternatives, accuracy of the MIDI conversion is not 100% but is still very good, so one does have to check if accuracy is important. Tricky notations like grace note...etc tend to trip it a bit but overall ok. Sometimes during playback it may get a bit lost with lots of repeats and score/music may get out of sync. Hence improvement is needed in these areas however I am still loving it. Before notate me I used to dread having to enter each note one at a time and now it is actually fun! A few features I would like to see added: -ability to import photos and PDF -more customisable layout for the score -coreMIDI -AudioBus -Inter-App-Audio -MIDIBus -Comprehensive file manger with folders and cut/copy/paste support -ability to use user SF2 Soundfonts -Practising tools: would be great if the app can become more interactive when using an external MIDI keyboard like waiting for the player to play the correct before playing continue. What had also helped me in deciding to make the (relatively) expensive purchase is the frequent past updates, indicating the level of commitment of the developer to continue developing and improving the app. Hopefully my purchase as well as writing these positive reviews will help encourage the developer in his effort! Great work! Edit(2015-11-22): I have been using the Photoscore a bit lately due to my having to learn the new songs at the choir. I feel that the accuracy might has improved, possibly due to the higher resolution on my newer iPhone6. Great to see the developer continuing to develop the app. :) ### 5/5 — NotateMe Is Incredible! *2015-07-05, version 3.1.0.0* With this app I am able to do what I once needed a full sized scanner and normal computer for! Hand write music but more importantly use the PhotoScore plugin to recognize sheet music and turn it into digital music so that it is quick and easy to transpose parts to other instruments, make edits and everything else you can do with digital music!
