### 3/5 — NEEDS a huge modernization

*2026-03-13, version 4.9*

The interface still resembles a 2018-2020 hybrid web wrapper rather than a modern native iOS app.
• Iconography and layout have obviously not been modernized.
• manual dated
• cannot handle large files very well. Gets stuck readily.
I want to like NoteDex but the current setup is frustrating. Looks like an old Android app, not a sleek modern one. I’m use to iPhone apps being modern and fast… this isn’t.
It does work better on Windows.
You need to check out CardFlow+. It kicks this one easily, readily. Only issue is it doesn’t do Windows. If it did I’d move to CardFlow. As it is I’m stuck with this clunker.

### 2/5 — Great...uh...premise

*2026-01-27, version 4.9*

I wanted to loved this app, but it has so many glitches it simply isn't worth using. Half the time I couldn’t get the font to change or take on a color, or take on an attribute like bold. Every time I attempted to apply an attribute, I had to bow out of the program and come back in again before it would take affect.

Designer: if you ever get around to fixing these things, I will be more than happy to try this again. But there is no way that I am going to hang onto an app that simply doesn’t work, especially in today’s market. The thought of spending $2.99 a month, or getting a one year deal for $30 is worth it if, and I say IF, the app works correctly and consistently well.

### 2/5 — Limited use, terrible interface

*2025-01-27, version 56*

This is not necessarily a stand-alone app. you must be connected to the Internet to open and requires a sign-in every time. It is a Web-based app with a desktop interface.

It is sluggish at time and has limited usefulness other than a flashcard/index card. I wanted something to keep track of physician’s preferences and I need to work offline for some of my processes. This does not allow me to use it at the same time and is very restrictive.

I don not recommend this program.

### 2/5 — Awful

*2024-09-06, version 4.5*

Screws up more or less constantly. Deletes entries, test function is pathetic.

### 2/5 — Almost great

*2024-07-17, version 54*

I love the idea of this app. Being able to use my apple pencil and physically write on the cards, group them into categories, then study them is fantastic and just what I need. However, it’s far too buggy to even use.

-Every button press takes a good three or four seconds to process.
-sometimes my pen won’t register at all and I have to restart the app. The app still works but I select the pen icon to write and it does nothing, or just freezes and takes forever to respond (sometimes I come back and see all the failed scribbles finally show up (which now I must go back and remove))
- It will randomly decide writing with my apple pen means I want it to convert to text which I do not (I used this app to study ancient greek which is nearly impossible to do with a keyboard, so it trying to transcribe what i’m writing randomly without me telling it to do so was frustrating) This usually happens when i select the eraser tool; instead of erasing, it will take my pen movements as text and input it, which I then have to go back and delete.
-cards would glitch and look different from the menu to when you actually select them.
-Random crashing

I wish this app worked. I really do. It would be one I use daily if it wasn’t for the constant bugs that cause making one card into a frustrating mess.

### 2/5 — Buggy, not worth it

*2024-01-21, version 4.3*

I recently went back to school to get a BA and was looking for a note taking app that could sync between my iPad Pro, MacBook Air, and google pixel, and that would allow me to use my Apple Pencil to write written notes. That request is a tall order, so I was excited when I stumbled upon Notdex. Unfortunately, this app is too good to be true. It is slow, it lags, and the hand writing functionality is barely usable because of how laggy it is. I had to close the app out and open it back up three times trying to write one note card because the darn thing kept freezing. Additionally, the UI is clunky and the graphics low quality. If the developer is able to address these concerns, thus app would be stellar and absolutely worth the cost. As it stands, though, I would pass on this one.

### 2/5 — Really buggy

*2023-09-07, version 3.6*

Using on a new MacBook Pro. App is buggy and lags. When typing text the text size and format will change at random.. I get a card typed as I like it and all of a sudden different lines will change size and completely mess up the card. Start over and same thing happens. Too frustrating for me to deal its let alone pay for. Is a good idea but is not working well at current time. Only need one day of trial to figure out is not for me

### 2/5 — Freezes and doesn’t save

*2023-08-21, version 3.6*

Worked great for the first 12 cards then after I wrote cards 13-24 none of them saved. I had to force close the app and now it keeps freezing or it doesn’t want to save.

### 2/5 — Has Potential

*2023-08-08, version 3.6*

This app has great potential. Unfortunately it is very buggy and lags, even on a newer iPad Pro. The user interface looks like it is from Windows 95, is not very user friendly and is confusing. I would spend the money, if these issues could be fixed.

### 2/5 — This app is glitchy

*2023-02-10*

It doesn’t work well when you use it as a study option. It also doesn’t sync as well. If I am on my iPad it works but when I am on my phone it doesn’t show up.

**Developer response:** Hi Joe.
The iphone and ipad app are the same app so it's probably just a sync timing issue. When you create the card on ipad do make sure to click the sync icon on the phone to ensure it has got everything. And of course make sure you are using the same account :) When you mention it does not work well on study mode option pleaset let us know what issue you are facing and we're keen to fix and improve. thanks Prem. ### 1/5 — A great Idea with potential…..BUT ISSUES EXIST

*2023-01-08*

I am currently on the trial version. I really want this to be good, but it is buggy. It is slow loading as it struggles to connect online. Stacks I have deleted, still keep appearing as though they are undeleted and some of the features are clunky to the point where I am not sure that they are actually working. I will persevere with the trial, but at this point it seems to me that users are really good ng to have to be Guinea pigs until the developers smooth things out. This could be a case of overreach. Unfortunately, what I type on the rear of the card on my iPad is not visible on the rear of the same card on my iPhone, even when synced. If this can’t be rectified, the cards are useless to me for study.
PS….The notes on the rear of the iPad version are now gone. Have emailed developers, but I am not wasting my time any further with making notes on this app…my physical index cards are, at this point superior in their reliability.
I really want it to be better, but I think I will give it a miss until I read some good reviews. My try it again in a years time.

### 3/5 — Unique handwritten flash card app

*2022-12-03, version 3.6*

This is the ONLY app I could find for my windows graphics laptop where I could hand- write flashcards with my digital pen and study with them.
As a languages student I wanted to practice handwriting my script and Anki, although an excellent srs app did not enable me to do so.

The pen setting comes in a range of colours and a highlighter which is just what I wanted.

However, the app could be further developed by making flashcards load faster. It still feels like it is a work in progress and could be made more professional. Suggestions are:
• making the srs program on the study mode more sophisticated, like Anki.
• fixing bugs and glitches which are quite common
• make the app run faster
•improving the lasso tool
•folders

### 3/5 — Amazing concept but needs improvement

*2022-11-07, version 3.6*

I have been using the app for a couple months now and it definitely has changed my studying for the better.. there’s no way I could’ve handwritten all the notecards I have typed up. However.. the more notecards I accumulate, the more issues I have.. I always type them up on my computer and it seems to be freezing up a lot now. Which is very frustrating when you’re trying to hurry so you can study for a big exam. Also I’ve been trying to open the app on my phone so I can study my cards while I’m putting my son to sleep and the app just keeps giving me a blank white screen. That’s very inconvenient and annoying. I’m really quite sad because I thought this was going to be life changing.. now I am wondering if it was too good to be true :(

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — misleading and underdeveloped

*2026-08-06, version 4.9*

not only is this app as underdeveloped as the other reviews say, but its also not free. when you first open it it starts a 7 day free trial, which, when over, restricts the app so you can’t actually add any new cards after 7 days. therefore this is just a completely paid app with a 7 day free trial.

### 1/5 — Not user friendly

*2026-02-15, version 4.9*

This app is not user friendly at all

### 1/5 — Stupidly

*2025-12-18, version 4.9*

I can’t describe how stupid it is

### 1/5 — Disappointed so far

*2025-08-06, version 4.9*

I thought this would be what I needed to keep notes on each of my cases. Just tried to log in on my iPad. Spent about half an hour having to log in through Microsoft’s 20 step log in process. Finally got logged in to see that I only have a free trial of a program I paid for. Still hasn’t loaded my data on my iPad. Not a bad program but way too much trouble just to keep notes on cards.

### 1/5 — So slow

*2025-06-02, version 4.9*

The app is slow, don’t know why we need to log in every time. Each slide takes 3-4 seconds to load. So laggy

### 1/5 — Awful

*2024-12-18, version 4.9*

Terrible amateur app

### 1/5 — Scam

*2024-09-02, version 4.5*

Not cohesive, unclear on how to use, will get messages like “error. Try again” when trying to use it

### 1/5 — App needs work

*2023-09-06, version 6.3*

App barely works. editing UI is almost no responses. having issue with this most basic of tasks like adding a card to the stack. you mileage may vary, but the OSX app for me is a no go.

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2023-05-02, version 3.6*

I wanted to like this so much I was even gonna pay the $50 for it. After trying it, no way would I pay for this. It doesn’t even work. You can add 5 cards and once you try to add the 6th card it will not add any cards. You have to exit the program and start doing it all again. Also every time I log in it says there was a problem to close program and try again.

Guess I’ll look for another app.

I paid $50.00, so no trial. I even signed up using your service and it still gives errors.. A lot of issues with this.

Constant log on failures, the template for Avery 5388 is way off, I wasted 17 sheets of index cards and still stops communicating to where you can not click on anything and you have to exit the app and try again. Way too many issues. I would of loved to have used this..

### 1/5 — Broken

*2023-01-20, version 3.6*

Spent hours struggling with this program to make note cards. It will constantly delete cards or freeze then when I reopen it the card/cards are gone. After all the effort I and try to use the study feature and it shows half my cards as blank even though the open view of the deck shows the cards have information on them. Deleting this app

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Essential Workflow

*2026-07-11, version 98*

I really love using NoteDex. It is really simple to get going with it and gives me the flexibility to plan, edit and update my creative projects.

### 5/5 — Nice people

*2025-09-02, version 4.9*

Couldn’t ask for a nicer response to an old man’s question.

### 5/5 — Love the app

*2024-05-03, version 54*

I loved this app. It saves me a lot of time. Like any other app you may have an issue but I haven’t had any serious issue that signing out and back in hasn’t resolved itself. The App support responds quickly. Glad I purchased it!

### 5/5 — Exactly what I needed . . .

*2024-03-17, version 54*

I was looking for an index card printing database that would help me create an analog Zettlekasten (Notebox). Beautifully creafted applicationn and it is continuously being updated with additional functionality. Customer Service is First Rate. Highly recommended!

### 5/5 — Exactly what I wanted

*2023-08-08, version 6.3*

I wanted a cross-platform app for my solo business where I could track and search a variety of notes including to-do lists, clients, meetings, projects, social media posts, and reference materials. I signed up for the trial period and right away knew NoteDex was exactly what I wanted. The app is user friendly, and the developer has helpful tutorial videos. I like the simplicity of the user interface and am super impressed by the variety and usefulness of the notecard organization functions. NoteDex is the perfect and improved (searchable text!) replacement for taking notes on paper.

### 5/5 — Intuitive

*2023-03-31, version 6.3*

This app is useful beyond studying. Use it to story board presentations, papers, and other assignments.

### 5/5 — I use it my way.

*2022-11-23, version 3.6*

For many years I have used a variety of Notes programs. Most of them were quite good, but they all seemed to be developed for a specific use; for example, taking notes in class, jotting down ideas, or developing lists. One of the problems I have is putting my notes into several different lists, depending on what I had available at the time. As a result, I had a lot of information that I couldn't easily retrieve. NoteDex allows you to move any card to another stack quickly and seamlessly. I also like the freedom to set up the index cards any way I like to fit my needs. On the other notes programs I ended up fitting my needs into the app. The fact that this is a multi-platform app that synchronizes between operating systems, which is important to me as I operate between windows and apple, as well as on the web. Overall, I like the freedom to set up NoteDex in ways that work well for me.

### 5/5 — Doing good so far!

*2022-10-28, version 6.1*

I looked everywhere for a flashcard ap in which I could insert pictures, study online, and be able to print out cards. So far this one is working beautifully.

### 5/5 — I love this ap

*2022-09-12, version 5.5*

It is so easy to use and it works well on my Mac and PC

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2022-06-24, version 3.4*

This is the only handwritten notecards app I could find and it’s THE BEST!! I only have one small suggestion.

An update where you can just view the notecards. Instead of being able to accidentally edit the card while studying, the editing and viewing of the notecard would be two separate buttons.

Y’all are doing so great!!
