### 3/5 — good but limited

*2025-06-08, version 3.7.1*

Notejoy started with great potential as an Evernote replacement; but after two years of use and lacking ant significant improvements, I am leaving it; reasons being:

1. Poor export capabilities
2. Requirement of having a Google account to be able to export and/or backup the files
3. sync feature though good, isn’t perfect, as it can lock up on small notes for seconds, where other services are quicker
4. Tags are poorly implemented and don’t work as well as say, Apple Notes or Bear
5. Spelling and text recognition are poor, as it I write out a list, Notejoy considers the prior list time and current one to be the same word, even with a carriage return in place.

For a basic note taking app, look other places, even Apple Notes is as good, even sharing notes has improved in the past two years.

### 4/5 — I didn’t think that I needed another note taking app.

*2024-07-18, version 3.7.1*

Note joy has its own unique setup that sets it apart from all the old note taking apps and even the so many new ones that are popping up every day. I am using more than I thought I would despite the fact that I already have so many other apps like Roam Obsidian Work Flowy Bear and so many more. My only suggestion is that they update the font size to be larger on the bullet points and that they add a widget so I can jump straight to it from my Home Screen. Actually if they can add an Apple Watch app too, that would be nice.
I have also noticed that they have not had any updates since last year which makes me wonder🤔

### 3/5 — iOS app is lacking

*2022-03-08, version 2.11*

Like the option to mail notes to notejoy, and I am using a scanner app to do so. iOS app needs more updates. Been waiting two years for them to make even basic updates like sort notes by date. On the iOS app, search results are completely disorganized. Can’t sort by title or date or anything.

### 3/5 — Web version much better than the app

*2021-03-08, version 2.8.1*

Notejoy is my Evernote/Notion replacement. It’s simple but powerful, and the collaboration features work very well. I’ve given up using the app because it’s hard to navigate, and there’s no highlighter that I can see. The web version of this app gets 4.5 stars from me.

Please give the iOS app the ability to swipe back to the last screen, or to reveal the side bar! And please put the highlighter where it appears on the web app. Once those things are put in place and the iOS web clipper is announced, this will be a 5 star app.

### 3/5 — Desktop great. Phone okay.

*2020-08-18, version 1.8*

Functionality in the phone app isn’t usable enough. Love all the moving of folders/notebooks/notes you can do on desktop, but very limited on phone app.
Please add the ability to move things around in the phone app.

### 2/5 — Great Tool, Rough App

*2019-06-02, version 1.5*

I really like Notejoy! Unfortunately, the Mac controls are somewhat unusable on iOS if you have an iPhone X, XS, or XS Max. It’s been almost two years. While Notejoy is great, it’s desktop only.

### 4/5 — Solid note taking

*2019-04-05, version 1.5*

with emphasis on collaboration. Performance on my old iPad mini 4 is ok

### 4/5 — Great but please update for XS Max

*2018-12-14, version 1.4*

Wonderful app that’s changed how I take notes. The only thing is the app isn’t optimized for the XS Max and is somewhat cut off at the top of the screen. Please fix this!

### 4/5 — Great but needs update

*2018-11-28, version 1.4*

Needs a pretty major update to support the xs max. I can click a menu and it can take a few tries. Some menus at the top get cut off or won’t respond to touch unless it’s on an angle.

### 2/5 — Slow

*2018-07-30, version 1.1*

Supper laggy. Cannot write a note without a huge delay. Either Apple doesn’t want competition or this is badly designed one of the two.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Been wanting to cancel for years; got locked out

*2024-09-10, version 3.7.1*

Let me in to my notes. Your product is a joke it’s no wonder no one wants to integrate your featureless, poorly-designed, bad looking UI. Let me in to my NOTES!!!

### 1/5 — Terrible app & no notice renewals

*2024-08-21, version 3.7.1*

I got the app to replace Evernote, but it was missing so many features that I went back to Evernote. The worst thing though is that they renewed my subscription for an entire year with no notice, which is illegal in the state of California. Do not recommend!!!

### 1/5 — Could be excellent

*2024-08-14, version 3.7.1*

Does not appear in iOS share menu so no way of getting information into it. On Windows the web clipper is faulty and only works now and again. Importing from OneNote or Evernote is hit and miss but it does try.

This could be a really excellent app with the best synch of any I have tried but the developer has lost interest. No real update for a year and he never appears on his Facebook page. Don’t get it yet wait and see if gets properly updated.

### 1/5 — Want to love it

*2023-06-30, version 3.7*

Edit: since writing this I’ve tried using the “help” in the app and it gives me a 404 forbidden error. And when I try their website, same error. What a joke of an app! Useless.

I’ve had the app for a couple months and it has worked great when I access my account via their website on my laptop. When I try to access on my phone via the app that’s where it has issues. I can open the app and see my notes with a preview of what’s in the note. When I click on the note it opens blank. I contacted support the first time it happened suggested I updated my phone. I did and it worked. For about 3 weeks. The blank notes started up again. My phone is updated and it doesn’t look like the app needs updating. At this point I’m moving on to an app I can actually use on my phone, where I need it most.

### 1/5 — Won’t open notes

*2023-06-10, version 3.5*

Doesn’t load last 2 weeks!!!

### 1/5 — Notes not opening on iPhone

*2023-06-09, version 3.5*

I can’t open or edit notes on my phone despite applying recent updates.

### 1/5 — Careful you might lose your IP

*2021-05-25, version 2.11*

Careful with Notejoy as this app doesn’t do what it is suppose to. While using it from iPad, it deleted an entire note with hours of notes. I don’t know if it’s to do with sync problems, or whatever the case may be, it is an awful experience I prefer not to remember.

No I have the hassle to move all my notes to another place where I can feel my notes are safe.

Definitively this kills this app

### 1/5 — iOS version is buggy can’t even login

*2017-12-15, version 1.0*

Downloaded the App and I used the don’t have an account option via Gsuite to create an account and then I get a desktop version which is extremely hard to view. I click done and try to login and it does not allow me to login. I can only click the don’t have an account option again and then it automatically gets me to the desktop hard to see view with my gmail account. Was the iOS version put out prematurely?

### 2/5 — Font too small

*2024-04-03, version 3.7.1*

Note text edit font too small. Could be able to set higher or why not keep the setting on desktop where I can set btw 13-21. I prefer 20. The iPhone mini app text is unreadable.

### 2/5 — Really buggy

*2020-02-08, version 1.7*

The app is really buggy, slow, won’t recognize suggestions from the iOS keyboard (meaning it doesn’t replace written texts with suggestions). The web app is amazing, but this app needs a lot of improvement.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Best cross-platform freeform notes app

*2026-07-16, version 3.7.1*

I tried a few dozen note apps when searching for a robust freeform note-taking tool that worked across any platform and operating system. Notejoy was the best of them all.

I have now been using Notejoy for several years and it’s worth the annual fee. It works well wherever I want to access it, and the developer team is polite and responsive. The one time I did encounter a bug, I reported it and was contacted directly to help the developer team locate the issue. They fixed it and it has continued to work seamlessly.

If you want notes that are completely under your control, accessible anywhere, with key tools like tags, search, and backup - and you need your notes to accommodate text, formatting, links, and images - this is the app to choose. I can’t recommend it enough.

### 5/5 — Best of everything

*2023-06-09, version 3.5*

There are so many trendy solutions, but I have always found Notejoy to have the best of everything. It has reverse links for east cross-note references. The ability to clip or email anything you see. Great mobile, desktop, and web interfaces. And crisp real-time and team coordination. Having tried everything out there, I keep coming back to Notejoy.

### 5/5 — The best cross platform note app

*2023-06-09, version 3.5*

I need my notes available on whatever platform - phone or desktop, browser, Mac or PC. This is my favourite app because it's stable, simple, uses tags and easy markup, can accommodate links and photos, and is available everywhere.

When I recently had a technical issue with the app, the Notejoy team responded immediately and worked with me until the app was functioning again. Then they released an update to fix the issue for everyone. I trust my notes with a developer that responsive!

### 5/5 — A recent review!

*2020-08-28, version 1.8*

The old reviews seem too dated, sadly. The app isn’t slow at all in my experience and my notes sync pretty promptly.
I have tried out a few different note apps recently.
Evernote was my go-to but every time my phone’s screen goes off the app minimises and I lose my place, which gets annoying after a while.
Ulysses seems too expensive for what it offers. Apple’s own Notes and Simplenotes are fine for simple note taking and sharing but I wanted something to categorise and sub-categorise my notes. So far I’ve been happy with the functionality and that it’s cross-platform

### 5/5 — Brilliant, Simple and Impressively Bold

*2019-11-05, version 1.7*

Notejoy has replaced my last note taking app. It has all you need, syncs across multiple devices and the web app can be integrated into all the usual suspects like Station, etc. Only downside is that outdated App icon that makes my phone look likes it’s back in 2007.

### 5/5 — Best note taking app I’ve used.

*2019-02-24, version 1.5*

My wife and I use Notejoy together. I couldn’t get her to use my other notes apps before but Notejoy is very simple to use to share notes with her. We use it to save our favorite recipes, make our travel plans and save ideas on things we want to do. I also use it as my daily note taking app at the office. I love how effortless it is to transition from jotting out notes on my phone, to reviewing them when I get back onto my laptop. Also they keep adding more features every month. Love this app!

### 5/5 — Works

*2019-01-28, version 1.5*

Easy and fast note app use it everyday. There is room for improvements but very happy with it. It works. I have all my note plus I can share with my team. And they can edit and talk inside

### 5/5 — 0-60 in 1 week!

*2018-08-16, version 1.2*

We were able to easily onboard several clients with over 60 different students. The strongest benefit though has to be the editable notes while on the back of a trello card. Power up, power forward with efficiency. Love NoteJoy!

### 5/5 — Nice app

*2018-07-23, version 1.1*

Simple taking note app with collaborative features. A must have!

### 5/5 — I love this Collaborative Writing App

*2018-07-22, version 1.1*

What more can I Say? Notejoy is a Joy to use and having synched notes for Collab across my devices has saved my Bacon many times.
