I’ll dive into individual features below, but 5e fact I can mix and match object types in a folder (kanban board alongside notes alongside whiteboards) is really nice, and having near real-time sync after saving changes is super handy. The fact that you can type notes on multiple devices and have the conflicts in versions reflected visually is super cool! NOTES Pros: NotesHub s GREAT for note-taking because of how flexible the formatting is—I can have text alongside charts, tables, etc. in a note, I can link to other notes in any folder, I can do a table of contents, and my gosh the Callouts are soooo nice! it’s also up to you how complex your note is because it gets out of your way and doesn’t force formatting. Cons: There’s a bit of setup to get it to sync across multiple devices (I use GitHub since I am not isolated to just the Apple ecosystem). WHITEBOARD The whiteboarding tool is nice and supports the flexibility of the notes with the visual elements you’d expect. I don’t use it much, but if I didn’t already have a whiteboard tool at work (Miro), this functionality would be enough for me. KANBAN: Pros: The kanban features are about the weakest feature set for a couple reasons, but the shortcomings are something I can live with. The positives are the ability to set deadlines, task sizes like points/hours/days, and full markdown support in the description as well as tagging to bring these up easier in the search. Cons: There’s no way to set a “Done” column that will complete the task automatically as it basically functions like a visual wrapper around a header, but if you give it a deadline you can mark it done and that visually indicates its completion with a green icon. As far as subtasks/task hierarchy, if you put checkboxes in the task you can make subtasks (again, indicated with an icon on the parent task in the board view) but these don’t show in the kanban board and you have to open the task to see them. If you need a complex task manager, look elsewhere, but for just keeping a simple organized task list it’s fine. ### 5/5 — Finally what I need *2025-01-03, version 3.6.5* Simple, but powerful, github+markdown - thats all I need for notes taking. Sometimes I might accidentally close, or internet dc's, my notes get lost. To manually save after each spurt, I have to hit check, go back to edit, control F to where I left off, etc. Kind of annoying. It would be great to autosave if that's something feasible. ### 5/5 — Okay, now officially amazing! *2024-07-22, version 3.4.0* UPDATED review: Okay, as of 20 July, now with full search function (including universal search AND in-note search), plus tag filtering, plus other goodies, this has suddenly become a really desirable notetaking app (and task management app, in fact, thanks to the neat date filter). What a great update! And consistent across all platforms! And so far, very stable! EARLIER review: I was looking for a simple app that would allow me to keep track of my weekly tasks in daily (time-blockable) columns, with drag-and-drop support. NotesHub is a good solution, with a minimal system/memory footprint. This is a nice, tight little app that works extremely well as a kanban board manager, and also as a note-taker. Extensive support for markdown in both notes and tasks is a great feature – it's always good to have rich-text support in task notes, and Noteshub does it very well. It's easy to use, and easy to organise. The one missing feature is a built-in search function – but the (very responsive) developer tells me that's on the roadmap! In the meantime, it's worth noting that the app uses the standard file system to store notes/tasks, so it's very easy to do Spotlight searches if you need to find specific information. This also means that notes/tasks remain app-independent, which is (IMHO) highly desirable. ### 5/5 — My new best notes app ! *2024-07-22* I take notes all the time, in all sorts of places - at work on the company laptop, in meetings, at home on my Mac, whilst travelling, shopping, doing sports, etc, etc. NotesHub is now my goto Notes app - I can use one app everywhere and my notes are synchronised to different cloud platforms across my devices, depending upon the context - work notes are sync’s to GitHub and personal ones to Apple’s iCloud. My company has a strict IT security policy, so I can’t install any apps, by the Web version of NotesHub works well so that I can continue to take the day’s notes during meetings on my iPhone, having started the day on the PC. RIP OneNote !! It’s cool and future proof to use MarkDown format and NotesHub renders them beautifully. Kudos to the developper team who continue to roll out significant upgrades on a regular basis - this weekend Tags and a powerful Search function was added. ### 5/5 — The app is like the developer *2024-06-06, version 3.3.1* Simple and efficient, they both just work. The dev has answered me some questions in reddit and fixed a problem I had on iOS 15.8 . More over the fact that it works on android and as a web app is superb. Thank you for responding. Overall: Simple Note taking app that syncs well. Will need to learn simple syntax for the diagrams, flow charts, tables etc. the best part is it’s free and not subscription/size limit like others. The reminders help keep my projects on track. Always denote a fully completed project, then copy that Kansan board to apply to your next one. One-time pay for convenience, too! ### 5/5 — Awesome application, great support! *2024-03-09* Having spent far too much time over the years trying out all the various notes/pkm applications only to be disappointed, I finally found the perfect application. NotesHub scratches all the right itches: - Simple one-time pricing - Offline mode - Multi-platform - Git synch (built-in, even from mobile platforms) - Great UI (with support for popular markdown extensions) The support has been great too. I had a small issue and posted my problem in the Reddit sub for the product. The developer quickly replied with suggestions and insights and helped to zoom in on the problem, and even posted a new version to fix the problem the same day. If you are looking to publish your notes as a digital garden, blog or another type of website, markdown files and Git integration make it really easy to use any of the dozens of static website generators. I use use VitePress and was able to get a site published in an hour. I am so grateful to the developer for creating this amazing application. It just works! No fuss, no muss! ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Unusable *2026-05-31* MacOS application worked fine for git integration, but web and iOS apps both fail with “An error occurred”. **Developer response:** Thanks for reporting this and sorry for the inconvenience. Could you contact us at support@noteshub.app with your diagnostics info: Settings -> Diagnostics and repo size, and iOS version. ### 1/5 — Last update broke the app *2026-03-28, version 3.10.2* Since the last update, I can no longer open the app in Apple Mac Air M1. It only shows a black screen. I nornally love the app. ### 1/5 — Lost all data *2024-08-21* Two hours of work gone – into the void. Why does the app not save everything automatically? I figured that it's necessary to "update" all changes to cards in the kanban board – but I didn't realize you have to save the board itself, too. What a bummer. ### 1/5 — Not ready for use *2023-11-19* No documentation. "Welcome" page is not documentation. No way to create a notebook in the menu. Claims "Off-line first" and "No Vendor Lock-in", but does not tell you where the notebook is saved. Claims to store notebook in iCloud Drive, but cannot be found in iCloud Drive. Top menu has a Help item, which says Help isn't available for this app. No Settings in the menu. Give Feedback, Suggest a Feature and Report an Issue all try to open Apple Mail app. No way to use with other mail apps. Terms say Contact Us but do not say how to Contact Us. No way to completely uninstall the app. Uninstalling from Launchpad leaves numerous leftover files on the Mac. **Developer response:** - Notebooks are stored in the application's isolated storage on your device for offline use and are synced with remote places of your choice like Git/GitHub, iCloud Drive. - To see your notebooks in iCloud Drive you have to create iCloud Drive-based notebook. - We don't control which email app to open with "Give Feedback" and "Suggest a Feature" links, it will use the default email client on your system. - If you have any concerns or feature suggestions please contact us at support@noteshub.app - The application does not create any files on your system except the designated folder on iCloud Drive for iCloud Drive-based notebooks, so the statement about numerous left-over files is not true. ### 2/5 — Simple app. Does what it does. Free is the best part *2025-02-20, version 3.7.0* Edit 2: Okay I’m having problems again. I cannot load my big files at all to my iPad. It keeps having a sync error. I can sync my other notes (smaller files). I can sync on my iPhone, my Mac. I recently bought the app on an Android. I have yet to try. please fix. This app is great. When it works ### 2/5 — Not intuitive *2024-03-17* The app is still very rudimentary. Markdown notes are possible, but other free apps also offer this. Personally, I find Markdown cumbersome. The Kanban board offers very few functions. It doesn't even offer subtasks. I also don't understand why there is no autosave function. I still don't understand what the tags are for if I can't search or filter for them. There is still a lot of room for improvement. At this stage it's not worth the money. **Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback. While other free apps support Markdown notes, NotesHub offers extended support and free cross-device sync of your notes without a subscription. You can create subtasks in Kanban cards using Markdown. The app does not have auto-save functionality since it heavily focuses on Git-based experience for storing notes, and auto-save does not quite fit in this model. Tags in Kanban are meant for visual help while finding your card and understanding the relation with other cards. Filter/search for Kanban tags will come in future versions. In general, if you find Markdown cumbersome you should look for alternative apps which are not Markdown-focused. ### 2/5 — Could Have Been Great *2023-10-02* Thought this was going to be a perfact solution, but .... There is no help ro support docs so you need to figure it out by trial and error. Does not appear to sync through iCloud drive -- the reason I purchased the app. The part I was really interested in was the dual notes and kanban but the kanban component is useless. Only the title shows, you can only put info into pre-existing fields which are minimal and you can't add photos or graphics. Maybe with some imrovements this could be a useful app but right now it's a complete waste of $2.99. **Developer response:** Thank you for your review. The iCloud Drive sync works in the app as advertised, please reach out to our support for the assistance. The search functionality is already on our roadmap, and will be a top priority in the near future to implement. ### 4/5 — iCloud issue *2026-08-09* Probably the best notes app available. iCloud sync doesnt seem to work fully though. I have notebooks that are local and others that I set to sync with iCloud and basically nothing happens, they remain local. iCloud is on for the app in settings, not sure if it takes time because its just text files. I have pressed the sync button multiple times. **Developer response:** Thank you for the kind words and for the detailed report! Good news: sync is likely working, it just isn’t visible where you’re expecting it. When a notebook is set to sync with iCloud, its files are stored in the NotesHub folder at the root of your iCloud Drive. You can confirm this in the Files app: iCloud Drive > NotesHub. If your notes are there, the notebook is syncing correctly. One important detail: notebooks don’t appear automatically on your other devices. On each device, you need to add the same notebook manually (Add Notebook > iCloud Drive, then select the existing folder). Once added, notes will sync between them. It’s simultaneously simple and flexible for all sorts of different types of projects and note-taking styles. The GitHub backup is also a great way to have synced copies of your notes that you can download and view in any text reader. Excited to see how this app evolves. ### 5/5 — More open and compatible OneNote alternative *2025-09-10* I was concerned about not being able to get my data out of OneNote or use it with other OSes like Linux so I’m very happy with NotesHub. I’m very happy. GUI is simple, design is clean, support is fast and responsive. In my case I wanted a basic Kanban program that wasn’t going to charge me annually for life. It does exactly what I wanted. I haven’t tried the git backing store, but I’ll probably switch to that at some point. ### 5/5 — Updated: Great alternative without subscription notes *2025-03-16* Key Features: (1) no subscription (pay for the app, I paid it 3x for iPhone, iPad, Mac) (2) no storage cap that I have seen (3) developer(s) has been adding QOL updates (can finally control F). This is not the Mercedes of Note Taking. Those features (live auto-sync, native drawing options, etc) are all behind a subscription pay wall.
