### 2/5 — Useful, but not for my instrument

*2026-07-22, version 10.6.1*

I play the ocarina (12 hole alto c) and I’m learning to sight read. I can still follow along with the practices, but the app does not pick up the sound of my ocarina despite me having paid to get the microphone feature. It would be great if this app had support for wind instruments

### 3/5 — Great app, but needs some improvements

*2026-06-01, version 10.0*

I’m glad to find an app that shows real-time notes as you play them, but the interactive sight reading lessons don’t indicated the rhythm of the notes very well. The highlighted note indicator moves with the notes played, not the rhythm, which is very confusing for me. I think it would help if the note was highlighted for the duration in which it is suppose to be played, (with maybe a built in metronome), especially for the early lessons. Hopefully, this will change in future updates. I do like the lesson pacing and gradual increase in difficulty.

### 5/5 — Developer is super responsive to issues

*2026-05-19, version 9.7*

This used to be the best note trainer, but in the last day the format has changed and now it is impossible to practice on a mobile phone as many of the notes are now off the bottom of the screen. Contacted the developer and he has been super responsive and quick to work on the issues.

### 5/5 — Faster than a teacher

*2026-05-19, version 9.7*

No teacher can teach us fast as no vision. I've learned more here than I've learned in in school.

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2026-05-08, version 9.5*

These lessons has taught me to sight read. Glad I found this

### 5/5 — Actually inspired

*2026-05-07, version 9.5*

It’s quite easy, and makes you want to practice. If chord mode showed the notes on a line, as it shows the keys, this application would be perfect.

### 5/5 — Missing Gb/F major

*2026-05-04, version 9.4*

Good app, but the key signature for custom exercise is missing Gb major. Why?

### 5/5 — I love it 😍

*2026-05-02, version 9.4*

Being completely music illiterate, I wanted an app that would allow me to learn and practice note reading while I’m dozing off in bed or waiting in line somewhere without some frustrating saas pay model. This app checks everything off and more! I have no hopes of it making me the next Mozart but it has already taken out a lot of initial frustration on my journey!

### 5/5 — WONDERFUL APP!

*2026-04-24, version 9.3*

This app is wonderful! If you’re trying to learn to read music without paying an arm and a leg this is the app for you! I love it, just what I needed to earn to read music! I’ll be using it to each my kids too!

### 5/5 — Helps training

*2026-04-20, version 9.4*

Very good try and do every day

### 5/5 — Perfect

*2026-04-18, version 9.3*

Just saw the update this morning allowing you to change the microphone input offset by semitones. This means that even transposing instruments can now use this app. I use this app extensively to practice guitar and bass for jazz band, literally the best $4 I have ever spent! Thankyou Ryan!

### 4/5 — Mostly great app

*2026-04-18, version 9.3*

I do love this app. Very useful even without paying. I paid for the full version mostly just to support the developer. Saying that first… but why did you shrink the keyboard in the latest update? It makes it a lot harder to hit notes with your thumbs while you’re reading.

### 5/5 — Helped with sight reading

*2026-04-14, version 9.1*

Great App. Helped me with improving my sight reading. Using it daily. Needed to purchase premium but totally worth it

### 4/5 — Very good

*2026-04-06, version 9.1*

Good

### 5/5 — Best App for Sight Reading 🎹

*2026-03-24, version 8.7*

I absolutely love this sight reading app! It’s simple, intuitive, and incredibly effective. I’ve noticed real improvement in my reading skills since I started using it.

The one-time purchase works across both iPhone and iPad.

Highly recommend it to anyone looking to improve their sight reading.

Great job to the developer! 👏

### 5/5 — Restore Purchase button disabled…

*2026-03-11, version 8.5*

Why disable the restore purchases button. Already paid for the app..

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Can’t hear unless bang

*2026-07-19, version 10.6.1*

It’s can’t hear the notes unless we bang on our keyboard or my son plays so loud on violin that it’s screeching we tried on both our phones and can’t hear so disappointing!!!

### 1/5 — You have to pay to use your pianos input

*2026-07-02, version 10.5.2*

You have to pay premium to use your own instruments input and there’s just a keyboard on the screen to use for free, I would’ve never downloaded the app and wasted my time trying to figure out how to set it up if I knew this from the start. Completely useless

### 1/5 — LLM Nonsense, Yikes

*2026-05-11, version 9.6*

The quiz format is fine, I guess, but all of the lessons are so obviously written by an LLM (like ChatGPT). “Real music doesn’t just go up and down—it waves.” Completely useless fluff. Absolute nonsense. Surprised the rating is as high as it is. I can’t imagine willingly paying for lessons nobody bothered to write.

### 1/5 — boring

*2026-05-02, version 9.4*

jhhjg

### 1/5 — Not for sight reading

*2026-01-13, version 8.5*

As far as I can tell so far this will do nothing but create TERRIBLE habits for sight reading. It stops at wrong notes, doesn’t keep moving, no metronome to keep you on task etc. Hopefully I’m missing some setting in here, but haven’t found it yet. If you’ve never read music before it will help you sort out where the notes are, but it seems to be about the worst thing you can do for literal “sight reading”.

### 1/5 — Bad

*2025-10-01, version 7.9*

I hate this app so much it’s so annoying and the sensitivity is terrible this is a colossal waste of time and I absolutely do NOT recommend

### 1/5 — Wrong notes

*2025-09-01, version 7.8*

It’s frustrating when you press a note you know is right on the app and it tells you it’s wrong. You can’t progress

### 1/5 — Recent Update

*2025-04-28, version 7.4*

The recent update is terrible. Changing the scope of the piano every session is terrible. How can varying scopes be conducive to learning?

### 1/5 — Mic recognition is terrible

*2025-03-27, version 7.3*

The microphone feature does not work nearly good enough. Compared to other apps it’s basically unusable at any speed unless playing loud half notes, even on the most sensitive setting.

### 1/5 — 抗議

*2024-12-12, version 6.8*

Not fun at all

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — The Best Sight Reading App Out There

*2026-07-20, version 10.6.1*

This app is a no frills, but a very easy to use and must have, for learning sight reading & much more including key signatures etc. For the premium version it’s a no brainier. For literally a few $ or £s one off payment, I cannot understand why this app goes under people’s RADAR. It´s absolutely brilliant.

### 5/5 — Great Concept

*2026-07-03, version 10.5.2*

Highly effective

### 5/5 — Love the app, but one bug.

*2026-07-03, version 10.5.2*

I love this app and have practiced over 400,000 notes with it. However, on G flat major, the custom mode switches between B4 and B4 flat indiscriminately for some reason. Other than that, fantastic app!

### 5/5 — Good app but…

*2026-06-15, version 10.5.1*

This is a good app especially to write and practice sheet music but can you make the violin feature free just like the piano sheet music just make some certain lessons of it free but either way it’s a excellent app would recommend to anyone planning to download it.

### 5/5 — Perfect for practice on the go

*2026-06-13, version 10.5.1*

Exactly what I was looking for

### 5/5 — Great Music Sight Reading Tool

*2026-05-30, version 10.0*

This app is such a good way to help sight reading music. A clear display of the sheet music and a piano keyboard with the keys required to play the music. It will not allow you to proceed until you press the correct one. Then gives you an evaluation of your efforts. Progress assured!

### 5/5 — The best app to learn sight reading! ❤️

*2026-05-29*

I’ve tried several sight-reading apps, and this one has been by far the most effective for me.

When I first started learning to read music, ledger lines felt almost impossible. This app helped me gradually build that skill in a way that was challenging without being overwhelming. I especially appreciate being able to customize the range of notes I want to practice. The progression of the lessons is excellent…each level pushes you forward without feeling impossible, which kept me motivated to continue.

I’ve also noticed a significant improvement in my ability to read accidentals and recognize notes more quickly. If it weren’t for this app, I honestly don’t think I’d be learning the songs I’m working on now. The structured practice and difficulty scaling made a huge difference in my progress.

I also enjoy the song exercises and would love to see even more of them, especially longer versions. It’s nice to be able to practice pieces like Canon in bed, but I always wish the song continued!

My biggest feature request would be a dark mode. I often practice in the evening, and a night mode would make the experience even better.

Overall, this app has been an important part of my piano journey, and I highly recommend it to anyone learning to read music. 🖤🎹✨❤️

### 5/5 — Legacy note geneation

*2026-05-26, version 9.7.1*

Hello, not sure where to report this but legacy note generation has a bug where it requires two note inputs. I think before the update it was just single notes. Legacy note generation is good for practicing large note leaps, etc. Update has been great so far!

### 5/5 — A great train app

*2026-05-23, version 9.7*

My music reading skills have improved significantly since using the app. I’ve decided to learn the bass clef too since the treble clef went well. The next challenge is learning rhythm timing better.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2026-05-23, version 9.7*

Easy to use, simple interface that makes it easy practice. This app is a lifesaver for leaning the notes. I also lets me set the range and work on specific areas I need to practice. Can be used with a keyboard or standalone for travel. Exactly what I needed!!
