Have used this app for around 6 years and it covers a lot of bases for a mobile app. Intuitive for a composing app. There is however a large stability issue and I cannot recommend the app while it exists: Adding new measures in the middle of a score will sometimes break the playback. The added measures do not show up in the score. The playback cursor gets all glitchy in the spaces where those new measures would be, sometimes moving way too slow and other times teleporting. The music still sounds normal when this happens, but it accounts for the “added” measures, causing a huge pause in the middle of the piece that you can’t do anything about. It is like a certain amount of space in the score just gets corrupted. You cannot undo this once it happens, and I have had to manually copy and paste everything into a new document if I wish to keep editing the music or listen to the playback. This is extremely frustrating, especially when it happens with larger projects. A huge timewaste that gets in the way of productivity. The chance of it happening seems random but often enough that it does not feel stable. 4 times within the last month or so, and I have had this issue for at least a few years. The things that should be improved is that instruments should be of a wider variety, for example; I wish there was percussion staffs that are 5 lines without it being drum set, and that percussion notation is wrong like Flam should not be written as a word in the staff, it is like writing fingerings instead of accidentals. There are other things that I could harp about but I just think the producers should check some of their tools and compare them to other popular programs like MuseScore and Dorico and see what they should change. For example, there could be more instruments like a simple wind chime. I usually use the wind chime in most pieces but here, I have to use another instrument. Also, could you maybe add some features like playing second time only for repeats? That would help a lot! Also, speaking of repeats, could you guys also add separate dynamics for each repeats pass? Hope you can add the features I mentioned! ### 2/5 — Restore purchase on IOS 26 does not work! *2026-05-12, version 3.6.2* I have been using a 1st gen iPad for this app which runs IOS 16 or 17. I recently bought an iPad Air 3 and an iPad Air 5, both running IOS 26. This is the only app that will not allow me to restore purchases I have made so I can used my paid apps on the more recent devices. I even tried to pay for the Feature Bundle on the newer models. It says “You cannot redownload this feature” (can’t remember exact wording). I have Fender notion on my Samsung Galaxy S8 Ultra tablet and my S23 Ultra. No issues with restore purchase. If Dorico had an Android app, I would just pay the pricier one-time purchase. Will someone please fix this? Unacceptable - feel free to refund me or bring your EULA into 2026 ### 1/5 — Sudden Glitch as of Tuesday August 4, 2026 around noon *2026-08-04, version 3.7* This app suddenly doesn't export PDFs properly anymore. Many of the notes are "frameshifted" in that they're not quite on the line or not quite in between the lines. This results in zillions of wrong notes on playback when I upload a PDF from Notion to my Playscore2 app. I've uploaded the PDFs to Forscore and Genius Scan and to iPhone/iPad Files and still this problem of "frameshifted" notes persists. Fender Notion, I'm a dedicated client of this app of many years and I am asking you to repair this MAJOR glitch. Otherwise I will reluctantly search out other apps and give up on you forever. ### 1/5 — I didn’t expect this app to get any worse *2026-08-04, version 3.7* I wasn’t expecting much from a mobile notation software, so I will take some of the blame for entrusting too much to this app. But oh my goodness, they have a limit on registering your account… don’t buy the bundle they have advertised because it really doesn’t do much, the pen tool is very inaccurate and a headache to work with. You spend $16 on a pack with mediocre sound libraries (again don’t expect much from a mobile app) and you only get like 3 times of signing back into your account before they tell you the limit is exceeded. I bought other notation apps for the others and they just sit unused. Also if you own Fender Studio Pro (Studio One Pro) the extra music pack is free. Finally Fender Notation is updated, some of the others do not. ### 5/5 — Excellent, including superb handwriting recognition! *2026-06-12, version 3.6.2* I’ve been a big fan of Notion for years, and recently I got an iPad and discovered the handwriting feature - I’m so impressed! The recognition of my notation is fast and precise. As a pro singer and composer I often need to transcribe and notate music quickly, and this app feels incredibly natural and intuitive… I can tell already it’s going to save me a huge amount of time. Also we need instruments like the alto clarinet which would make a huge impact on the game also we need other instruments that are able to do glissandos like flutes saxs every instrument need to be able to do a fall or a glissando not just jazz instruments that would really help In making fun tunes that would sound really nice also can we have more sound effects? I feel like the instruments should have a setting in tools where you can add a sound effect like shhhh or haaa and like claps, stomps a way to blow into the instrument without making sound like a wind sound effect.
