## What is Now and Next Lite?

Now and Next cards, sometimes referred to as “First - Then”, are a visual communication tool that allow you to articulate a current activity - “now” and the one following it - “next”. This enables and supports communication at a variety of ages and learning developmental stages.

Now and Next Lite lets you quickly create cards for every aspect of a day, enabling communication and structure in an engaging and visual way.  
Featuring over 60 activities ranging from daily home life to school, and the ability to create your own custom activities featuring your own images, a vocabulary of activities can quickly be built and re-used.
To aid with understanding, activities can optionally read aloud their name when tapped and be grouped in custom categories.

The unique Time Line feature enables you to take existing cards and create a time line of activities with cards moving on automatically after an adjustable amount of time - perfect for providing a structured set of activities. Disabled by default, a friendly sound can be enabled to notify you that an activity has changed.

For peace of mind, or to easily set up an additional device, you can backup and restore all your created activities, cards and custom categories.

Help with Early Years Development: 
Use Now and Next cards to visually indicate activities to young children, building their cognitive skills and understanding.  Speech and language development is further encouraged by the use of colourful pictures combined with verbal communication of the activity to the child.

Help for Special Education Needs (SEND):
For those whose language skills are less developed or have trouble communicating verbally Now and Next cards provide a useful and convenient way to articulate and structure upcoming activities. Continued use of Now and Next cards is encouraged for children whose speech or language development is delayed.

Where are the 60 activities? Also can I create my own cards?

**Developer response:** There are 66 activities built-in, you can find these in the "Activities' tab. You can create your own cards and the full version allows you to create custom activities ensuring you can make cards that are perfect for your needs.

### 1.10 — 2026-07-27

- Custom activities have been redesigned with a much friendlier interface. You can now scale and rotate images for the perfect framing.
- Category management has moved to the custom activity edit screen - you can now also hide empty categories in the settings menu
- On supported devices you can now use Image Playground within the app to create custom activities
- You can now edit any card, simply tap the pencil icon at the top left to get started.
- Every Activity card can now have unique text for Now/Next - simply tap the 'text' button the create/edit screen to set custom values.

Colours have landed! When creating a card you can now choose from a selection of preset colours and gradients, or make your own! 

If you're using the voice feature to speak an activity or prompt you can now choose from a selection of voices from the settings screen.

Unfortunately we've had to drop iOS12 support, iOS15 is now required for new updates.

We've added Prompts - these are simple cards that allow you to customise a question, select 2 to 3 activities and have the chosen option highlighted.  Great for providing choice without an overwhelming selection of options.

Search for your favourite cards and activities.  We've enabled search/filtering in almost all areas of the app, now you quickly find the card or activity you want without endless scrolling.

Even easier card creation.  We heard you, the grey + on the activity card builder looks like it should be tapped, and now it can be!  You can still use the old drag & drop technique but we hope this makes the card creation processes faster and simpler.

We've also fixed a few bugs and made it so you don't need to wait for the voice over to finish before tapping another activity.
