It also provides educational science related videos, and is very easy to navigate and read so it is ideal for children. This is a great APP for both teachers as well as those individuals who like to be well informed or are generally interested in science. However it would be better if they tried to make it more appealing to general audiences it seems most people that this APP would appeal to are educators or people who have an interest in science. Over all I would recommend this APP to everybody, the information provided is very relevant to our world and therefore very beneficial. ### 5/5 — Hours and Hours of learning fun *2012-04-03, version 1.2.2* If you're not a curious person- curious about the world and just about everything in it, you probably won't use this App much. Still, it would be nice to be able to click on a link that would take me to a more comprehensive article. The wow factor or this app is really why I use it. Most of the pictures are amazing and the interface is really cool. I've even turned some of the pictures in here into my wallpaper and screen saver. My biggest complaint of video playing after closed was quickly updated and fixed, and now I would love to see load times decreased and new content added more frequently - perhaps even an option of marking the stuff I have seen, read or watched. I downloaded it again week or so ago and today I deleted the app. Now the App Store says the app is still installed and when I Reset ALL the settings of the iPhone low and behold the app is still on my Home Screen though it does not have a picture only a white image with a grey circle. STAY AWAY FROM THIS APP IT PROBABLY IS INFECTED WITH MALWARE. ### 1/5 — Barely functions *2019-01-01, version 2.0.1* Videos don’t play and photos don’t load on iPhone running latest iOS. What a disappointment. Deleted the app shortly after downloading it. **Developer response:** Sorry that we were unable to address your concerns before now. NSF was closed during the lapse in government appropriations. We have since tested on multiple iPhones with the latest iOS update and we were unable to replicate the problem. I went back to that video just to see if it was playing. It wasn't, but the sound stopped. I went back to grid view and the sound from the video started playing again! Very frustrating because I think this is a really cool app. Looking forward to the next update. ### 2/5 — Science fan *2012-02-15, version 1.2.1* I downloaded this about a month ago, it used to partially load but then hung up. I've been patiently waiting for an update and today it finally came. The description said it was supposed to fix hangings & crashes but what it did for me was go from hanging to crashing; when I select it I get a screen that says its loading and about 2 seconds later it crashes. I even restarted my iPad 2 after downloading the update. This is completely free and was definitely designed for someone who knows exactly what topic they want for a school project. I am in middle school and this is a VERY helpful app to me. The videos and images that the National Science Foundation produces are pretty awesome. Even though they are geared for a high school-level audience, there’s valuable information for people no matter what their education level. I like being able to use the carousel to randomly browse items and then switch to the category search once I’ve found stuff I’m interested in. The partnerships with professional sports organizations like the NFL and NHL do a great job of putting complicated scientific concepts in the context of things familiar in everyday life. I guess as some have said it would be nice if it was searchable, but I hadn't thought of that until I read others saying it. I don't see it as a way to gather research or anything as serious as that, so I don't really miss a search function. I see it as an extremely cool and stimulating way to kill time or to browse and learn about a whole range of current science. The presentation looks fantastically crisp and the videos I've watched on physics, my field, have been extremely well-done, accessible while still being informative and without dumbing the material down. And probably because the NSF funds many of them, very prominent and well-respected researchers in the field participate. At the same time, I can catch up on developments in other fields in an easy and enjoyable way. And as for searching, really, it's always been easy for me to find features on whatever field I felt like, just by flipping through the video wall thing.
