Northwestern University is continuing its partnership with Via, a leading mobility tech provider, to offer free rides to Northwestern students across campus and the surrounding Evanston area during evening and night hours. How does NU Transit work? NU transit includes both the Safe Ride service around campus and transit planning with the Shuttle. You can see shuttle stop times and plan your Campus Loop, Evanston Loop, and Intercampus Shuttle trips directly from the app. What is Safe Ride? The service works like a rideshare that comes where you want, when you want. Enter your pickup and dropoff addresses and choose the ride option that works best for you! They make you share a ride with several people, and instead of basing the trip based on efficiency they do it based on who got on the car first. So, if I book a ride that is a 5 minute distance away, it will take me 15 minutes away because the person before booked that ride. What is supposed to be a 5 minute car ride has become as long as 30 minutes. I prefer the old SafeRide, because at least I can wait the 30 minutes in the comfort of my house, rather than in a car with several other people. Bring back the old safe ride please, or at least have more vans. ### 1/5 — Outdated system and poor Map *2024-11-07* There is a mandatory 4min wait for each passenger and the map is no where close to being precise. Needs significant improvement. ### 1/5 — Doesn’t work as well on older phones *2024-02-13* I have an iPhone SE (2020), and there is no option to cancel a ride because the UI does not allow me to scroll down to the cancel option.
