## What is NudgeMath?

NudgeMath is a step-by-step math practice app for Grades 4 to 6.
Aligned with Common Core, CBSE, ICSE, and Cambridge syllabi, NudgeMath helps students truly understand and solve math problems — one step at a time.

Unlike typical apps filled with multiple-choice questions, NudgeMath mimics the experience of solving problems on paper.
Students solve independently, with just-in-time hints and feedback when needed — no spoon-feeding, no getting stuck.

What Makes NudgeMath Unique

- Fully Aligned Curriculum
We offer complete coverage of all topics in:
Common Core (Grades 4 & 5)
CBSE, ICSE, and Cambridge (Grades 4 & 5)
CBSE (Grade 6 only)
From number operations and place value to fractions, long division, geometry, and measurement — NudgeMath ensures deep, meaningful practice.

- Step-by-Step Guidance
Students are guided through the process, not just the final answer. Whether it's drawing angles, solving long division, comparing decimals, or tackling word problems, NudgeMath encourages real thinking with support at the right moment.

- Visual and Interactive Tools
Fractions, angles, line plots, symmetry lines — NudgeMath makes abstract math concrete. With virtual protractors, shaded grids, clocks, and more, students explore math visually and hands-on.

- Smart Hints and Feedback
Hints and feedback appear only when needed. Students get just the right amount of help to stay on track — learning through correction, not repetition.

### 4/5 — Concept Nice, Could Be Improved

*2025-08-20*

I like the idea behind this app. The question interface is very intuitive and easy to pick up. As someone who already learned these concepts many years ago, I cannot determine how much a younger student would learn from this app, but I do like the hint functionality, and think it could be beneficial for students practicing subjects at home.

However, I do have some feedback.

When I use the app, it is exclusively in landscape mode, and implementing the functionality to swap between portrait and landscape when tilting the phone would make the app more intuitive.

During lessons, they appear to go on infinitely. I think the use of study sessions/goals (ex. 10 questions without hints, 30 min of practice, etc) could be beneficial here with either the student deciding (and of course, the infinite lesson can be an option for dedicated students) or the teacher deciding the period of time or the number of questions.

Also, while I think the use of the little character as an icon is charming, the icons on each of the topics could be more relevant to the topic itself (ex. the character holding a protractor for the angles unit).

Also, there could be some audio involved, such as the ability for questions to be read aloud to the student as well as some audio indicator when a student has gotten a question right vs wrong, or if they have leveled up.

Also, I feel as though the text is quite small in proportion to the amount of space on the screen, especially the text that appears in the bottom left corner during lessons.

Also, the UI doesn’t completely take into account the device a student is using, and some parts of text are slightly cut off by the iPhone notch (I have a 11 pro). There also is a very small margin between text and the corners of the phone screen where the corners are rounded while the screen appears to be meant for a more rectangular device.

Moreover, the registration UI has a few unintuitive parts. Specifically, the I’m a student/parent vs teacher/mentor. I understand why teacher and mentor are grouped together; however I feel as though the student/ parents option should be split into two separate options as a student would be doing math while a parent would be received updates on their progress and other information. Also, currently, even if I select teacher/mentor I still receive the same exact interface as the student/parent one where I can do lessons. I expect that will be updated in the future or it may be because I did not register with Apple.

One last thing, this may be my personal stance and slightly biased, however, I would prefer not to register with Apple. Most apps in which a registration is required simply register with an email account by emailing a verification code to that email. I personally find this better, especially if a student has an email account managed by their school.

I hope this is helpful, and have a nice day. :)

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for such a thoughtful and detailed review — it means a lot at this early stage! We’re glad you found the hints and the step-by-step flow intuitive, and we really value your suggestions on how to make the experience even better.

A quick clarification: some of our problem types (for example, where we need to show both the current step and the previous working side-by-side) are very challenging to design for portrait mode, so landscape may continue to be the default. That said, we understand the need for flexibility and will explore what’s possible without compromising usability.

Many of the points you mentioned — study goals/sessions, more topic-relevant icons, audio read-aloud and feedback sounds, better handling of screen cut-outs and margins, clearer role distinctions at registration, and alternative login options — are things we can incorporate at different points of time, some sooner and some later.

We’d love to hear more from you: could you drop us a note at padmagowri@benciti.com? It would be very helpful to know which problem types you tried and whether you found some more effective than others. Your feedback will help us shape the app for both students and teachers.

Thanks again for taking the time to share your thoughts!
