### 5/5 — What’s all the buzz about?

*2022-11-29*

For this special education math teacher, the buzz is how Number Hive engages my students in math fact practice while thinking they’re just playing a game! The hive mind has worked it’s magic on me too. When I sit down to relax for the night I find myself drawn to practice mode like a bees drawn to honey. This game is really the bees knees!

**Developer response:** Thanks for the review ❤ Mrs. Middle School Math Lady. We'd love you to sign up to our community at https://www.numberhive.app/ so we can keep you in the loop with our useful classroom content, ideas to support student engagement, and even the occasional nugget of professional development gold

### 5/5 — Amazing!

*2022-11-20, version 2*

Wonderful, engaging and fun!
My 7 year old loves number hive.

### 5/5 — I have 🐝n loving this app

*2022-11-16, version 2*

8/10

### 5/5 — Fun, easy to learn, always challenging—in a good way!

*2022-11-11*

This game is fun! I like the strategy and it keeps me on my toes. It’s good practice for the littles with multiplication, but gives an opportunity to develop critical thinking and logic, too.

**Developer response:** Thanks for your review ReevescommaT. Number Hive is great for family games time. A lot of parents tell us it's like playing number chess - Aargh! maybe we should have called it that!😉

### 5/5 — Multiplication + Critical Thinking = WIN

*2022-11-09*

This game is great! Not only does it challenge students (kids) to use their multiplication facts, but also incorporates strategy, so they don’t set their opponent up to win! Great way to have fun while reinforcing multiplication (and division) fact fluency!

**Developer response:** Thanks Meegin. We're hearing great stories from teachers using Number hive in inventive ways in their classrooms. Check out our web page for more ideas, like as a warm up tool, or for early finishers 😀: https://www.numberhive.app/teachers/

### 5/5 — So clever and accessible for a variety of abilities.

*2022-11-08, version 2*

So simple, yet so clever and highly addictive! I have had such fun playing this already at home and can’t wait to introduce it to my class. I love the way that it is not threatening if children don’t know a multiplication fact and is not time pressured like so many maths apps but encourages children (and adults) to learn more facts to increase their chances of winning. Brilliant!

### 5/5 — Fantastic

*2022-11-08, version 2*

This app is perfect for retrieving facts, reasoning and application of problem solving. It will be a great tool for classroom use but as mentioned elsewhere I keep finding myself playing on this app, it’s quite compulsive. My maths lead brain is thinking of a million ways it can be used within a school setting. I can’t wait to see what else you’ve got in the pipelines!

### 5/5 — Great Builder

*2022-11-08, version 2*

Great way to reinforce multiplication. Also gets you thinking to out wit your opponent.

### 5/5 — Love it

*2022-11-04, version 1.1*

Love it.

### 5/5 — Making math fun!

*2022-11-03, version 1.1*

Hands on math resource that’s easy to use and engages students. Perfect for our weekly math rotations!

### 5/5 — Can’t stop playing!

*2022-11-02, version 1.1*

What a game! So engaging and fun! Playing against someone is so thrilling and really gets my brain working. I am glad there is a practice option 🤪 I can’t wait to introduce to this game to my daughter when she is ready.

### 5/5 — The maths version of wordle

*2022-11-01, version 1.1*

I understand that the app really is meant to develop multiplication skills for students at school, but here I am spending my evenings challenging my wife to game after game! Great app! Lots and lots of potential! Well done

### 5/5 — Times tables meets chess

*2022-11-01, version 1.1*

Engaging and fun! Kids love the strategy involved. Already helping their foundations!

### 5/5 — Love it!

*2022-10-21, version 1.1*

What a great game! Such a clever concept, that helps keep you mental maths sharp and gives you a really enjoyable game to play at the same time. 😊

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Pay to play

*2026-02-05*

This *was* a fun game, but now it’s a paid experience only. Their big offer is analytics and a leaderboard? Puh-leese. Ruined a good thing.

### 1/5 — Can’t log in

*2024-08-30*

I can’t remember my first password, forgot password won’t let me resest my password, so now the game isn’t able to keep my scores and let my kids progress to practice basic subtraction

### 1/5 — Latest update, horrible

*2023-12-17*

This was a definite four stars until the update just a day or two ago, where they added a bunch of different options. Now it crashes or will not even play. It was a fun little game, simple, but effective. Adding all the extra junk has ruined it.

### 2/5 — More Difficulty Plz

*2025-01-31*

I downloaded this game yesterday but it gives you the same numbers each time. At least they are in a random order. Why not expand choices from 12 numbers to 32 in your next update, with no guarantee the same numbers would appear in each beehive. Thank u anyway!

### 3/5 — Great concept, lots of glitches

*2023-05-25, version 2.3*

Frequent glitches in the game such as players turns being skipped, game not ending when someone gets four in a row, etc

### 4/5 — Promising but needs UI fixes

*2024-01-24*

The gameplay is intriguing and I would love to give this a fair shot! Unfortunately the board doesn't scale to fit my iPhone 12 Mini screen, so the first and last columns of numbers are off screen. Also, in the practice game, the colors are yellow and orange. This can be tricky for kids to differentiate, especially if vision disabilities are at play. Is there a way to change the colors and scale or rotate the screen? Thank you!

### 5/5 — Great game!

*2025-09-12, version 4.0.2*

Utterly outstanding! An amazing display of educational brilliance! I can highly recommend it!

### 5/5 — I know I’m only an eight-year-old, but I love it

*2025-08-09*

The first time I played this game was in school and the thing was they let me play it in school and then I told my dad he let me get it It really helps me to learn my multiplication. At first. I have no idea how to do multiplication but now I love it so I gave this game five stars.

### 5/5 — Maths in disguise; great fun too

*2023-09-03, version 2.4*

Love this app. It engages users with its simple layout and uncomplicated playing rules. You can pick this up in seconds. I’m a retired primary headteacher and can see the huge benefits to children of using this game to develop mathematical skills - without actually realising you’re doing it. The strategic element ensures that there is a challenge in playing even for those who are already familiar with their number facts. Great fun for adults too!

### 5/5 — AI gets stuck after a longer game

*2023-08-09*

I plan on using this with my students this year for fluency. I’ve been playing with it for a while, but I’ve noticed the AI in the practice version will freeze up and not make any more plays after the game has had many turns.

**Developer response:** Sorry for the delay in replying to this Ammmarcela - we've release an update in recent weeks- hopefully this is now all fixed. Thanks for reporting it :)

## Most praised reviews (6 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Fluency In Action

*2023-07-12*

My sixth graders struggle with fluency. I’ve utilized both the printed versions and the app for this program. The kids are so competitive and they begged to have a tournament! The adults in our school loved playing against the students as well! Highly engaging!

**Developer response:** Brilliant to hear Kim, we love that you're utilizing both versions as a blended offering. Differentiation in action!

### 5/5 — Rigorous Game - Low Floor/High Ceiling

*2023-06-14*

After introducing this to my 8th grade students, some took on the challenge to compete against each other in their down time. This game uses the multiplication facts of 1-12 in such a way that helps learn and review them while strategically placing your next move. Love it! Thank you for creating and sharing the Number Hive.

**Developer response:** Thanks winsa lot, you're name tells us you've spent a big of time playing😉 - love that your students are playing in their own time, the Hive is working it's magic.

### 5/5 — My 6th graders love this!

*2023-03-21*

I tried this with my 6th graders and they loved it. We had 5 minute battle rounds where they had to get up and find a new partner to battle. The students were engaged and beg to play it when they are done with their independent work. How can I argue?!? Worth introducing this multiplication game to your students! ✖️ ❤️

**Developer response:** Hey Mrs. McG!, what a brilliant way to use the game. One of the most exciting things about Number Hive is the innovative ways that teachers are finding to include it into their lessons. You guys are showing us the way forward! Thanks, you made our day. And thanks for the recommendation, please do keep spreading the word.

### 5/5 — I’m loving playing this!

*2023-03-19, version 2.3*

I tried this because I thought it would be good for practicing multiplication and division facts, and it is. It’s also so much more. I’ve found it very strategic and thought provoking, looking for tiles I want to get and also how to prevent my opponent from getting the tiles they need. I’ve just introduced my family to it and they love it too.

### 5/5 — Fun but flawed

*2023-03-15*

Really fun, even addictive. Excellent multiplication practice and good strategy game. But has a flaw. If the other player doesn’t make a move in the allotted 60 seconds, the game freezes.

**Developer response:** Hey animaltourism, thanks for your ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐'s. We're looking into that issue - sounds like a minor bug.

### 5/5 — awesome and simple!

*2023-02-06*

this game is so well done, i can’t wait to try it with my kiddo to see if it helps his multiplication struggles.. i wish more played online as i find it fun to just play as well, but it will still be great to be able to host a game for my son to join and play together. thank you for making this!

**Developer response:** Hey Kdake, thanks! We love that you love it. We know it will help your son. We're building more followers everyday! Thanks for the review, and for helping spread the word further!
