The kids love it--they beg to play it--and it's scaffolded so that anyone can play! I owned the original card game, which was great, but the iPad game is amazing. This is the type of game all of my kids ages 3 to 10 enjoy playing and I enjoy playing it with them. The graphics are great the concept is simple. I only wish there was another version for multiplication and division. And it would also be awesome if we could save our scores. I haven't been able to find many apps for reinforcing math concepts for older children (1-4 grade) but this is the best I've seen. ### 5/5 — One pleased dad *2011-08-26, version 1.0.1* I got this for my daughter who has been struggling in math at school, especially when it comes to mental math. I was worried about what it was doing to her confidence and that she might start disliking the subject and give up. I have to say The Numbers League saved the day! As soon as I come home, she asks to play the game. Anything to keep her working on her math skills. It progressively encourages algebraic thinking beginning at a very elementary level and going through positive and negative integer calculations. It is colorful and engaging. My wishes for improvement would be twofold: first, allow children to "save" their game and second, make more advanced levels. My sixth grader is zipping through the top level and needs greater challenges. Can't wait for more apps targeted to the high achieving homeschoolers! ### 5/5 — Let the kids play and play... *2011-07-13, version 1.0.1* ...normally I limit my kids (girl 9, boy 7) to maybe 20min sessions on their DS or Wii. With Numbers League they can play until the batteries die...it's that rare combination of fun/challenging game play that's also good for you. The kids love it and as a parent I love that they are learning. Its win-win. The graphics, music and voice effects are outstanding. Hands down the best edutainment money I have spent. ### 5/5 — Options options options!! *2011-07-10, version 1.0.1* My favorite thing about this game is how adaptable it is. There is a whole page of game levels, one of which is customizable to add skill concepts on demand. The options page is my friend! Kids love the ‘dynamic’ setting so they can watch all animations, but I get impatient so I like to set it to ‘fast’ or ‘simple’ for shorter or fewer animations. When I want an extra challenge I set the timer and being able to ‘charge’ for hints make me think twice before I hit that button. I love this game! If Math is a superhero Numbers League is the secret identity it cleverly hides behind. I tend to forget I’m doing math! ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — This app is a complete mess - are reviewers shills? *2012-07-03, version 1.0.1* It takes several minutes to wade through confusing narrative to get started, then the task itself is insanely confusing. It takes a lot of brainpower to figure out what to do, and none of that brainpower is focused at all on math. Are the other reviews from shills??? ### 3/5 — Common core aligned *2014-06-19, version 1.1.0* This means the lowest gameplay level is numbers through 14. I'd like to meet a four year old who can add three numbers over multiple cards ex. Nine numbers added together on the simplest level for example. Hints give you multiple villain suggestions for instance you can capture villains with the numbers 4,7, or 9 you'd still have to add multiple cards or ex, hints not useful. Six numbers to find a correct answer. I don't believe all these glowing reviews unless your kid is a bit older no way. I've got a super smart one and although the game itself is stellar and slightly brilliant the ability to dial down the double digit numbers would be appreciated. You need to already know your adding up to ten pretty well to play this and enjoy it IMO. We will be filing away on the cloud for now, disappointed as reviews led me to believe younger kids could have adjustable gameplay like setting a range of numbers for totals to make it easier. It's great practice for mathematical thinking, and the art is awesome! ### 5/5 — One of the best arithmetic games out there *2022-03-05, version 1.2.1* Both of my kids, with completely different personalities and abilities to focus, love this game. They are not just doing rote arithmetic as with the vast majority of arithmetic apps. They are thinking algebraically (e.g. what combination of numbers can give me this result?). They begin to realize that if their initially calculated sum is off by x, they can just switch one card by x to capture the villain. It’s fun and addictive, and hands down I would recommend this app. ### 5/5 — Very well done; a favorite game *2016-09-06, version 1.1.0* One of my second grader's top three educational games on the iPad - and I enjoy it, too! The gameplay itself is excellent and motivating, without being high pressure. I especially appreciate that the default setting has the timer turned off. One suggestion: it would be hugely helpful to be able to select shorter games (15-20 villains) with more complex math concepts, such as negative number villains. Especially for students with less patience, shorter attention spans, or other special needs, the games with the more challenging math can be too long. Otherwise, a top-notch game. Who would have thought? *2016-08-02, version 1.1.0* Fun graphics, fun music, fun rewards for catching bad guys with difficulty-tunable math makes this a fun game for me, as an adult, to wake up my math mind. I keep coming back to it, and updates keep making the capture screens fresh and amusing. It's engaging for kids or adults. Life gives math purpose, and so does this game. The problem with teaching math is putting math in a purposeful context. Few people do math just to do it. We do it toward some other goal. So does this game. Meanwhile the exercise makes the math mind stronger. If you have kids, get this game. If you don't, well, neither do I, and I like this game. It's at least as entertaining as games that only entertain, and the skills it exercises are actually useful when trying to center a picture on a wall (wall length minus picture length divided by two is the margin), or work with your home budget any of the other places that common math helps you solve life problems. ### 5/5 — Outstanding for kids and adults *2014-11-27, version 1.1.0* Genuinely challenging, particularly in the highest level.
