### 1/5 — Subpar and exploitative, no reason to use this app

*2026-08-21, version 2026.11*

Repeatedly changed features to move essential functions behind a paywall, automatically bills you for a full year after your trial period ends, and immediately removes access to premium features when you stop payments despite you still having time left on your subscription. Lacks basic features like barcode scanning, and changed others like calorie ranges to be essentially non-functional.

Overall, a mediocre app at best with predatory monetization practices. There is literally no reason to use this over the many, many better options available. Look elsewhere.

### 5/5 — Best Food Tracking app

*2026-08-20, version 2026.11*

Free version is great, gets out of your way and just does what you need. Bought the paid just because I loved the app so much.

### 4/5 — Good features but no database for UK foods

*2026-08-18, version 2026.10*

I had been using another diet tracker for years which had been excellent, until it became very slow to find foods and I could not get support.
I bought Foodnoms as a replacement as it was well rated.
It is comprehensive and usefully links to Apple Health. I will grow to like it in time, but at the moment I miss my previous tracker.
The “insights” dashboard is insightful
However, I have found it frustrating to re-enter all my regular foods, especially as it gives me US options not UK. This creates extra work compared to my previous diet tracker.
After spending a bit more time with the app I have found that scanning nutrition data from the food packaging works well. However, I cannot get bar code scanning to work, possibly because it is US oriented.

### 5/5 — Speech to Text AI is great.

*2026-08-18, version 2026.11*

With all the other apps, I find it such a pain to nickel and dime every single thing that I ate, especially because I make a lot of my own food and custom meals. With this app, I can just rattle off all the ingredients to the AI Chatbot and it’ll cook it into a meal for me that I could log right away.

### 5/5 — Paywall bug fixed

*2026-08-17, version 2026.11*

Edit: Thanks to the developer for reaching out and correcting the situation of free tracking that suddenly was behind a paywall. My review has been edited to reflect how much I use and enjoy this app, and to reflect the quick communication of the developer.

### 5/5 — Better than competition

*2026-08-16, version 2026.11*

Great app, though I don’t personally love some of the Liquid Glass interface changes. Appreciate the developer responding to feedback.

### 5/5 — Back to five stars since the original issue was a bug.

*2026-08-16, version 2026.11*

Good stuff. Originally I wrote this review stating that the app locked once free features behind the premium version. The developer stated this was a bug and has since fixed the issue. Kudos to them for a quick turnaround time.

### 1/5 — Features suddenly behind a paywall

*2026-08-13, version 2026.10*

As of today, all of the features that make this my fave nutrition tracker, are suddenly behind a paywall. Zero warning, just all of my tracking for the last month has disappeared. This is so wrong. Honestly with a little bit of warning I might have budgeted and made the decision to keep the app, but not when they do this. All of my tracking is hostage to $39.99, which is not a small amount to suddenly have to pay. This was the best nutrition tracker out there, now it’s another expensive app that will likely cost more money going forward. Sad

### 2/5 — App went downhill

*2026-08-13*

This app was a solid 4/4.5 stars. It was the only app I could find that let me specify calorie and macro goals as a range instead of a specific number. Welp, they took that out. Now you’re always either over or under. They still allow you to specify a range, but it doesn’t do anything except display a faint checkmark next to “over” or “under.” Notably, there’s no feedback about how soon you’ll be in or out of the range, which was the whole point.

Separately from that, the AI features are mixed. When it guesses, it’s invariably *way* off. It does a very good job of reading nutrition labels as long as you are very careful to make sure to crop out any reference to what the label is for. Because if it sees the name of the food near the label, it will ignore the label and make random stuff up based on the name of the food. Also, scans cannot be edited, so if it reports 36g of carbs instead of 38g, you’re out of luck. And it names everything scanned from a nutrition label as “Unknown Item” so you can forget building up a list of common foods.

So of the two features that made this app special, they took one out and the other only half-works. I have an annual subscription but I’ve already set it not to renew.

**Developer response:** Thank you for the candid feedback. I've noted all of it.

On goal ranges: every goal card now measures against a single target, and that was deliberate based on years of customer feedback and support requests. I understand you aren't a fan of the new approach, but I have strong conviction the new pattern of always displaying values relative to a singular number is the right approach for the app. It introduces less cognitive load and works better for dense contexts, like widgets and Apple Watch complications.

On Foodnoms AI: significant improvements are in testing now and should be available soon.

One thing worth checking: a label scan should open an editable form before you save, where values can be corrected. If yours doesn't, email support@foodnoms.com and I'll sort it out.

Ryan

### 5/5 — Keeps me organized and planned

*2026-08-13, version 2026.10*

If I plan what I eat, I stay on track. I can plan my entire day and hit all my goals before my first cup of coffee.
