### 4/5 — Good features but no database for UK foods

*2026-08-18, version 2026.10*

I had been using another diet tracker for years which had been excellent, until it became very slow to find foods and I could not get support.
I bought Foodnoms as a replacement as it was well rated.
It is comprehensive and usefully links to Apple Health. I will grow to like it in time, but at the moment I miss my previous tracker.
The “insights” dashboard is insightful
However, I have found it frustrating to re-enter all my regular foods, especially as it gives me US options not UK. This creates extra work compared to my previous diet tracker.
After spending a bit more time with the app I have found that scanning nutrition data from the food packaging works well. However, I cannot get bar code scanning to work, possibly because it is US oriented.

### 2/5 — App went downhill

*2026-08-13*

This app was a solid 4/4.5 stars. It was the only app I could find that let me specify calorie and macro goals as a range instead of a specific number. Welp, they took that out. Now you’re always either over or under. They still allow you to specify a range, but it doesn’t do anything except display a faint checkmark next to “over” or “under.” Notably, there’s no feedback about how soon you’ll be in or out of the range, which was the whole point.

Separately from that, the AI features are mixed. When it guesses, it’s invariably *way* off. It does a very good job of reading nutrition labels as long as you are very careful to make sure to crop out any reference to what the label is for. Because if it sees the name of the food near the label, it will ignore the label and make random stuff up based on the name of the food. Also, scans cannot be edited, so if it reports 36g of carbs instead of 38g, you’re out of luck. And it names everything scanned from a nutrition label as “Unknown Item” so you can forget building up a list of common foods.

So of the two features that made this app special, they took one out and the other only half-works. I have an annual subscription but I’ve already set it not to renew.

**Developer response:** Thank you for the candid feedback. I've noted all of it.

On goal ranges: every goal card now measures against a single target, and that was deliberate based on years of customer feedback and support requests. I understand you aren't a fan of the new approach, but I have strong conviction the new pattern of always displaying values relative to a singular number is the right approach for the app. It introduces less cognitive load and works better for dense contexts, like widgets and Apple Watch complications.

On Foodnoms AI: significant improvements are in testing now and should be available soon.

One thing worth checking: a label scan should open an editable form before you save, where values can be corrected. If yours doesn't, email support@foodnoms.com and I'll sort it out.

### 3/5 — Better than competition, but recent updates going in wrong direction

*2026-08-10, version 2026.10*

The app is still better than the competition, but recent updates are going in the wrong direction. Liquid Glass GUI that works worse than before, features that used to be free now locked behind subscription, etc

### 3/5 — Good but needs improvement

*2026-08-03, version 2026.8*

The app is convenient and I using it. It’s my second nutrition app. The interface is much nicer than my old app but the accuracy of foods is not. The other app was about 95% right and this one is say half the items are higher calories than what’s on the package. The AI feature is worthless. It would be better if you didn’t even show it. This is where you need to improve the most or I am going to have to switch apps again.

### 5/5 — Best food tracker for iPhone

*2026-07-21, version 2026.7*

I’ve used several different calorie/nutrition trackers over the years and was happy with another for a while but they changed that one and I ended up trying this and I absolutely love it, hands down the best one available for iPhone.

### 5/5 — Info right where I need it

*2026-07-20*

I just finished testing a number of food tracking apps and have landed on this one. The free version doesn’t work for me, but the paid version is cheaper than a lot of the others. What I like: I can see my goals - calorie targets, cholesterol, fibre, protein, etc. graphically so I can easily judge where I have to be more careful. I can also tap one of the goals and it shows me which foods recently contributed the most to that score - very good for learning. The AI interface works well. I can just type in or paste in a recipe and the AI figures out 90-100% of the nutritional values. It also lets me scan a nutrition label instead of entering data manually when a food is not in their database. About the only negatives…. There’s no weight tracker. I get that it’s a food app, but it is something I wish it had. I also have an issue with the camera not always working for my iPad unless I reboot. iPhone is fine though. Pros definitely outweigh these cons enough that I can’t drop it down to 4 stars.

**Developer response:** Thank you for such a detailed review and for sharing what has worked well for you. We’re glad to hear more about the features you find so helpful. Weight tracking is now available in the latest version of Foodnoms, so you can record and review your weight alongside your nutrition data. We also appreciate you mentioning the intermittent camera issue on your iPad. Please feel free to contact us at support@foodnoms.com so we can look into it further. Thank you again for choosing Foodnoms after comparing several options and for your support.

### 5/5 — Best food tracker going

*2026-07-20, version 2026.7*

Can’t speak highly enough of this app. Super clean UI and quick to use. Paid tier is very worthwhile

### 5/5 — Love it

*2026-07-19, version 2026.7*

Pretty much the only thing I use my phone for now. I use it everyday

### 4/5 — Great app but still needs some work

*2026-07-12*

Really good app, easy to use but still needs some work, specifically for keto diets

**Developer response:** Thank you for sharing your feedback! We’re glad you’re finding Foodnoms easy to use, and we understand that you’d like to see additional support for keto diets. Foodnoms does offer keto-related features, including the ability to create a Net Carbs goal under Settings → Goals → Create New Goal. Net carbs are calculated by subtracting fiber and sugar alcohols from total carbohydrates. For more information, please see our help article on tracking net carbs. If you have specific suggestions for improving the keto experience, we’d be happy to hear them at feedback@foodnoms.com.

### 5/5 — Overall great

*2026-07-11, version 2026.7*

Some of the database needs to be built up but it’s a great food tracking app. Gives a bunch of different data points that aid in understanding your own body. Definitely recommend if you are passionate about your nutrition!

### 5/5 — Great app

*2026-07-08, version 2026.7*

A really great app that does the basics but does them well. The free tier is outstanding and doesn’t block off any meaningful things with pay walls or constant ads.

### 5/5 — Easy Tracking Macros

*2026-07-07, version 2026.7*

This app is awesome and easy to add all the foods you eat to the library list and then just select your meals from there and voila!!…you instantly know how many calories you have left for the day!

### 3/5 — The app is crazy but need more for free

*2026-07-02, version 2026.7*

We need more f features for free

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Subpar and exploitative, no reason to use this app

*2026-08-21, version 2026.11*

Repeatedly changed features to move essential functions behind a paywall, automatically bills you for a full year after your trial period ends, and immediately removes access to premium features when you stop payments despite you still having time left on your subscription. Lacks basic features like barcode scanning, and changed others like calorie ranges to be essentially non-functional.

Overall, a mediocre app at best with predatory monetization practices. There is literally no reason to use this over the many, many better options available. Look elsewhere.

### 1/5 — Features suddenly behind a paywall

*2026-08-13, version 2026.10*

As of today, all of the features that make this my fave nutrition tracker, are suddenly behind a paywall. Zero warning, just all of my tracking for the last month has disappeared. This is so wrong. Honestly with a little bit of warning I might have budgeted and made the decision to keep the app, but not when they do this. All of my tracking is hostage to $39.99, which is not a small amount to suddenly have to pay. This was the best nutrition tracker out there, now it’s another expensive app that will likely cost more money going forward. Sad

### 1/5 — Don’t get this app

*2026-08-13, version 2026.10*

Foodnoms was great and then suddenly required an upgrade to see most information and nutrients and applied the upgrade requirement retroactively. All previous information was erased.

### 1/5 — 120 calories for a black coffee???

*2026-08-12*

What the hell is wrong with Foodnoms AI?

First: It’s unable to find a lot of food item by name and it tries to separate the components (You can’t tell me it’s not able to get the nutritive value of a Shepperd’s pie) even when asked in french. It’s an AI for crying out loud!

Second: 120 calories for a Tim Horton black, dark roast coffee (which the AI could not find apparently, even though Tim Horton have a web site with all nutritional values). What the heck?

How can trust an AI (at 59$/year no less) that can’t find information that’s widely available?

### 1/5 — locks fiber tracking behind paywall

*2026-08-10, version 2026.10*

one of the most important things to track aside from macros is suddenly locked behind a subscription membership with zero warning. now i’m stuck scrambling to find an alternative to figure out meals this week as someone with chronic illness that needs managing.

my partner and i will be switching immediately

### 1/5 — Nuked the free version by removing prior functionality

*2026-08-10, version 2026.10*

Previously free features are now locked behind a paywall. Literally anything besides macros & calories are now on a paywall. It’s a good app, but basic nutrient tracking like fiber or sodium or other micros shouldn’t cost that much money - and, fortunately, doesn’t in other apps that I will now go use.

This was a previous five star app but the push to absolute greed by removing features & functionality that were previously free is pretty gross.

### 1/5 — FUBAR

*2026-07-28, version 2026.8*

Fugetsboutit. Difficult to use. I enter a food. Ok logged. Enter next one, ok but previous ones gone!! Try another says ok but not logged. DONOT TOUCH!

### 1/5 — No clarity

*2026-07-02, version 2026.7*

I hate apps that make you enter all your data and sign up with your email address etc before telling you there is no free plan. Really bad. Maybe it’s worth it. I think it’s reasonable to know from the outset if there is a free plan or not.

### 1/5 — Support issue

*2026-06-24, version 2026.7*

I updated to the newest iOS and now my background is black. I emailed them and they sent me a bunch of support articles but it doesn’t show how to fix it. I’m now giving them one more day and if they don’t respond, I will cancel this app and find something else.

### 1/5 — Past chart data lost if subscription ends

*2026-06-18, version 2026.7*

The data and charts for past goal charts goes away if your subscription ends, even though you paid for that time period.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Best Food Tracking app

*2026-08-20, version 2026.11*

Free version is great, gets out of your way and just does what you need. Bought the paid just because I loved the app so much.

### 5/5 — Speech to Text AI is great.

*2026-08-18, version 2026.11*

With all the other apps, I find it such a pain to nickel and dime every single thing that I ate, especially because I make a lot of my own food and custom meals. With this app, I can just rattle off all the ingredients to the AI Chatbot and it’ll cook it into a meal for me that I could log right away.

### 5/5 — Paywall bug fixed

*2026-08-17, version 2026.11*

Edit: Thanks to the developer for reaching out and correcting the situation of free tracking that suddenly was behind a paywall. My review has been edited to reflect how much I use and enjoy this app, and to reflect the quick communication of the developer.

### 5/5 — Better than competition

*2026-08-16, version 2026.11*

Great app, though I don’t personally love some of the Liquid Glass interface changes. Appreciate the developer responding to feedback.

### 5/5 — Back to five stars since the original issue was a bug.

*2026-08-16, version 2026.11*

Good stuff. Originally I wrote this review stating that the app locked once free features behind the premium version. The developer stated this was a bug and has since fixed the issue. Kudos to them for a quick turnaround time.

### 5/5 — Keeps me organized and planned

*2026-08-13, version 2026.10*

If I plan what I eat, I stay on track. I can plan my entire day and hit all my goals before my first cup of coffee.

### 5/5 — The Best Food Tracker

*2026-08-08, version 2026.9*

I’ve tried a lot of the other food tracking apps. This has the best index of foods and the layout of search results makes even better. The use of AI in the food logging is really good. Try it out.

### 5/5 — Wow. Perfection.

*2026-07-26*

I have used a few big-name food tracking apps, but got fed up with how bloated and buggy they all got. This app is clearly a passion project of an individual who cares about their creation. It is perfect. I love it.

**Developer response:** Thanks for sharing your experience with us! We're thrilled to hear that Foodnoms has stood out from the crowd and has delivered a smooth, functional experience for you. Thanks again for your support!

### 5/5 — Love it

*2026-07-26, version 2026.7*

Almost gets every food accurate haven’t really had a problem with it

### 5/5 — Exactly what I needed

*2026-07-25*

This app is exactly what I needed — a tracker. So many apps that try do to that also try to tell me what I should have and, suggest options, and connect to a community, and give me recipes, and everything else but the kitchen sink.

I get that this is useful for some, but for me, my doctor and dietician have given me numbers to follow. I needed to be able to customize my tracking, not use a formula that an app guesses I need based on their algorithm.

This app gives me ultimate freedom to customize for me specific use. It's also fun to use, and the interface is modern and very functional.

I tried a lot of apps and none came close to this one.

Highly recommended.

**Developer response:** Thank you for sharing such thoughtful feedback! We love to hear that Foodnoms gives you the flexibility to track the goals established with your doctor and dietitian without adding features or recommendations you don’t need. It’s wonderful to hear that Foodnoms works so well for you. Thank you for recommending us!
