### 2/5 — App doesn’t work half the time

*2025-09-22, version 1.42.0*

Would be great if it opened more than 4 days out of the week. Half the time it’s just “try again”

### 4/5 — Open Letter to NYT Audio

*2025-09-11, version 1.41.1*

Hi NYT team,

I just wanted to share a quick note about the decision to shut down the standalone Audio app. I was sad to see it go — it’s been one of my favorite ways to engage with Times content.

That said, I think the transition could have felt a little smoother for those of us who relied on it regularly. Two things in particular would have helped a lot:
	•	Supporting CarPlay in the main NYT app, so we can keep listening easily on the road.
	•	Migrating our existing follows and subscriptions into the main app, so we didn’t lose the personalization we’d built up over time.

I really appreciate all the work the team has put into audio, and I hope you keep building on it. The Times has some of the best audio journalism out there, and anything you can do to make it easier to find and listen to will go a long way.

Thanks again for all the great work you’re doing.

### 4/5 — Really sad to see this go

*2025-09-11, version 1.41.1*

I have enjoyed this app for a few years now. I hate all the NYT podcasts (why are they so awful? Fake radio over-produced garbage) but this app had long-form articles, from the NYT, from T magazine and from a rather good selection of other magazines (the Atavist, Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone, and more). Read by people. Honestly RIP. So sad it is being discontinued.

### 2/5 — Buggy before, now stopped working altogether

*2025-09-10, version 1.36.0*

It was always buggy, not responding to earbud controls, but now the latest update won’t even work with my version of iOS, the latest my phone is compatible with.

### 3/5 — Merging with NYT app

*2025-09-09, version 1.41.1*

They’re closing this app and moving it to the Listen tab in the NYT app but this loses CarPlay compatibility.

### 3/5 — A+ content C- app

*2025-09-03, version 1.41.0*

App takes 10+ seconds to load. Pause and play have a 2 second delay. App crashes frequently. Queue isn’t followed and plays random shows. Please improve the app so I can enjoy the content.

### 3/5 — Love it but it lags

*2025-08-29, version 1.41.0*

Love the idea and having all my favorite nyt podcasts. But it lags pretty bad and makes it hard to search for new things to watch.

### 2/5 — Navigation

*2025-08-25, version 1.41.0*

I’m glad everybody else likes this app, but I think the navigation is really terrible. Headers, authors, categories, magazine sections, radio programs—They are all shown in exactly the same way.
Sometimes the info is on top sometimes it’s on the bottom.

The search is worthless. If you search for Ezra Klein, it will show you something from five years ago right next to something that might’ve been last week and there’s no date to know the difference.

And the search is really weird even after I type in Ezra, Ezra Klein is that always at the top. This is a major colonist for the New York Times. Why would it be at the very top?

I wish Ezra was still on Spotify.

### 2/5 — Slow to load and glitchy

*2025-08-23, version 1.40.0*

Love the content but hate the app. It takes forever to load and is glitchy. Impossible to scroll back and forth within a podcast. Will stick with the Apple podcast app.

### 2/5 — Just gets worse

*2025-08-23, version 1.40.0*

NYT bought Audm and immediately reduced the content and functionality. It’s been reduced even further- no New Yorker, Atlantic or New York Magazine. It doesn’t even function well as a podcast player. Want to change your queue? Nope. Want to add articles from the NYT app to your queue? Nope. Definitely don’t pay extra for this.

### 2/5 — Slow / Unintuitive Layout

*2025-08-23, version 1.40.0*

This NYT app takes 10 seconds to fully boot up on my phone. By comparison, the Downcast and the Apple Podcast apps, load almost instantly. Also, I find the interface relatively cluttered, complicated, and laggy. I enjoy the content, but the app needs an overhaul imho.

### 2/5 — Not intuitive; small range of articles

*2025-08-20, version 1.40.0*

Title says it.

### 3/5 — A good start

*2025-08-20, version 1.40.0*

This was off to a good start and I jumped in right away but updated added an insta-style feed start page that is information sparse and not particularly useful. Button actions are laggy - do a better job of UX feedback, this feels like my touch screen is broken. Finally, downloaded episodes aren’t useful since the app won’t open without a connection.

### 3/5 — Battery drain

*2025-08-17, version 1.40.0*

Love the content, and some of the app glitchiness/slowness has been fixed (though marking an episode as Listened to also marks the current episode as listened to, and ends it, mid-stream!), but the biggest problem now is *battery drain*. My phone runs hot, and drains very quickly when this app is running, unlike any other app I run.

### 4/5 — Menu searches

*2025-08-15, version 1.40.0*

Great start, but with so much content multiple ways of accessing the library would be awesome

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — NYT audio: Carplay no longer!

*2025-09-22, version 1.42.0*

But Washington Post audio is now on Apple Carplay!

### 1/5 — A terrible app that never works

*2025-09-15, version 1.42.0*

This app is really bad. Sometimes I try to open it and tells me something’s gone wrong. Try again when you try again it just goes around and around and around and around and never goes anywhere so you have to get out of it and try again today I just gave up.

### 1/5 — Cancel your subscription

*2025-09-15, version 1.41.1*

NYT the only thing you'll understand is loss of revenue. You cancelled a useful, reliable app that worked with Carplay for no reason or notice. Fellow disgruntled users, put in your 1 star review and cancel your subscription.

### 1/5 — App being disappeared

*2025-09-08, version 1.41.1*

Was looking for my favorites and saw the message that the app would be gone as of Oct 3…highlighted link says “Go to the Listen Tab” which took me to my NYT app but no Listen Tab in evidence.

### 1/5 — Why the harsh removal?

*2025-09-08, version 1.31.0*

With no warning the app is going away and I can’t use it because you insist on an update for a version of iOS this device can’t take. Why can’t I just use the old version until Oct. 3? I wasn’t able to note what I missed, which episodes I was in the middle of, nothing. This is almost abusive, NYT. And we’re paying customers. WTAF?!?!

### 1/5 — Version block

*2025-09-08, version 1.36.0*

If my phone is x or less, I can’t update to your new version.
Classist block to access, even though I purchased the NYT…wow

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work!!

*2025-09-06, version 1.36.0*

Doesn’t work for my IPhone with a 16.7 version

### 1/5 — App is so slow to load

*2025-08-28, version 1.41.0*

NYT content is solid. This app is so slow to load. Learn from lean apps like Overcast, please

### 1/5 — Needs better features & Vision Pro & iPad apps

*2025-08-16, version 1.40.0*

Please add CarPlay support along with better Siri integration. Where is the Apple Watch, Vision Pro or iPad apps? Thank you kindly.

When listening to audio, I am surprised that the app doesn’t follow along in the transcript. Instead, you have to hunt for where you are in relation to the transcripts.

### 1/5 — App won’t open

*2025-08-12, version 1.40.0*

I’ve tried uninstalling and re-installing, updating, updating my iOS, force closing, restarting my phone, logging out and back in, but nothing works. I just get the splash page with the loading wheel and it never opens. I’m paying for All Access but only getting some access -__-

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Leaving?

*2025-09-18, version 1.42.0*

I don’t want this app to go away on October 3, 2025!
I listen to it and many of its offerings of other magazines. The convenient format of these presented all together will be sorely missed.
Don’t go!!!!!

### 5/5 — I love the audio app.

*2025-09-18, version 1.42.0*

This app is so easy to navigate and listen to articles. I like the sleep function so I can listen at bed time or anytime. I’m sad this app will be going away. I think it functions much better than the audio within the regular NYTimes app.

### 5/5 — NYT app 👍👍

*2025-09-16, version 1.42.0*

Awesome app. Great tool to stay informed

### 5/5 — Great, but a little slow

*2025-09-11, version 1.41.1*

Really like this app and much prefer it to the NYT listen tab. It’s just very slow when it opens - if great we’re fixed it would be excellent

### 5/5 — Do not get rid of this app!

*2025-09-06, version 1.41.1*

This app is very well designed and easy to use. Do not discontinue it!!

### 5/5 — Wort wort wort

*2025-08-21, version 1.40.0*

Great app!

### 5/5 — A Must Listen

*2025-07-17, version 1.39.0*

NYT Audio has become a necessity for my day - it’s the only app where you will find a decent summary of the most important stories of the day, as well as in depth analysis you can dip into whenever you have more time. Excellent app!

### 5/5 — Not to much not to little

*2025-07-15, version 1.39.0*

Having news that just happed with enough information that, I think are from a reliable source, helps ease or get excited of what is happening in this new Goverment era. Where you are not certain what is true and isn’t.

### 5/5 — Great content

*2025-06-20, version 1.37.1*

They are resourced well and bring the highest quality available. I wish they were more balanced politically. They are not. Regardless, it’s good to know what one side thinks, be nice to know the other side thinks as well.

### 5/5 — I love this

*2025-06-08, version 1.37.1*

My new favorite app
