### 3/5 — Prep and cook times wildly inaccurate

*2026-08-29, version 4.168.0*

For example, Pasta Alla Vodka lists a 30 minute time. I don’t know anyone that can get a pot of water boiling, chop an onion, grate Parmesan, measure vodka, measure cream, chop parsley, chop oregano, chop garlic, and measure out oil, salt, pepper, pasta in 30 minutes much less cook also. From prep start to ready to start cooking, it took me 50 minutes. And another 30 to 40 hour to cook pasta, drain, cook onion, garlic, pancetta, reduce vodka, reduce tomatoes, and reduce cream. Come on NYTimes Recipes, you’ve got a great app, great recipes, but stop with your “quick and easy meals” fiction! That’s not you.

### 3/5 — My favorite resource

*2026-08-29, version 4.168.0*

This app is an excellent repository of fine cooking. It’s often my first stop for a new recipe and we have many family favorites saved!

### 3/5 — Love NYT cooking but hoping for more

*2026-08-28, version 4.168.0*

I use the app weekly for inspiration but would love to have more search options, this is very limited to me. I’d love to see new AI features also.

### 5/5 — The Best

*2026-08-28, version 4.168.0*

Amazing app; simple, delicious , coverts to metric

### 4/5 — I like it, I also think…

*2026-08-28, version 4.168.0*

I really appreciate the broad spectrum of recipes. I do wish they had the a meal planning portion of the app. I use MANY apps and recipe sites and sometimes I forget where the recipe I wanted showed up. I know, I’m old, but I can’t be the tone…

### 5/5 — ❤️ My NYTimes Cooking app

*2026-08-27, version 4.168.0*

This app has been a life saver for me and my family. We all have some sort of restrictions when it comes to food and this app gives me TONS of inspirations on what to cook. 98% of the time the food is delicious and healthy. I almost never make anything twice because there are so many recipes to explore. I always send photos to my daughter and friends that are also delighted by the results.
I’ve never been disappointed and I have a list of things to cook so I’m never without an idea! 💡

### 5/5 — Takes up too much of my time LOL

*2026-08-27, version 4.168.0*

one of the rare food platforms that feels like a companion rather than a database — endlessly inspiring, occasionally distracting, and just shy of perfect because it needs more of those quick-hit videos that make dinner feel doable on a weeknight.

### 5/5 — Happy we found this app!

*2026-08-27, version 4.168.0*

Tried and tested easy recipes. The recipes have changed our at home dining experience and leave us less inclined to dine out. Excellent food, easy to find ingredients, quick to more involved recipes allowing a range of options. Love this app!

### 3/5 — Some questionable instructions

*2026-08-27, version 4.168.0*

I truly enjoy reading the recipes, but if I wasn’t a cook and understood methods there would have been more than one failure. For instance, the blender chocolate mousse recipe said to beat the heavy cream for 5 minutes. It would be butter by that time. The cashew brittle said to boil without a candy thermometer for 8-10 minutes. That length of time brought it to less than a soft ball stage.
A little more editing is in order.

### 5/5 — Wicked Good

*2026-08-27, version 4.168.0*

What a fantastic app, I use it every week for at least one meal!

### 5/5 — Simply the Best Recipe Collection

*2026-08-27, version 4.168.0*

NYT Cooking is the gold standard. It’s always the first place I go if I want ideas for a new recipe. And my favorites list is so important to me (haha!!). I’d probably actually cry if I lost it…

### 4/5 — Good ideas, but don’t trust details

*2026-08-26, version 4.168.0*

The NYT app delivers lots of good meal ideas, but the recipes are not always as flavorful as promised, and the time estimates are wildly off. Read the notes for adjustments, and consider doubling the most flavorful elements. Pasta dishes in particular tend to be bland - reducing the pasta by half often yields a good flavor level.

### 5/5 — NYT Cooking is my cookbook now

*2026-08-26, version 4.168.0*

SO easy to plan meals & grocery lists on this app. Recipes for such a wide variety of food…all delicious and well vetted, with clear instructions and tips. The recipes turn out well and cooking is fun again!

### 5/5 — My Gran’s cooking to the celestial Nth

*2026-08-26, version 4.168.0*

Purchased as a Christmas gift to myself a few years ago, NYT Cooking has transformed my life, what I enjoy reading, my dinner parties, my meals for friends, what I get excited about, what I look for at the farmer’s market, and the way my 17-year-old son has started to lean in to how and what I cook. The two old oak recipe boxes high up on my shelf — one mine, one my grandmother’s — look so cute up there. Now I mostly just smile at them for shaping me as a young cook, but it’s a rare moment when they are summoned. ♥️

### 5/5 — Culinary adventures

*2026-08-26, version 4.168.0*

This is one app I don’t mind paying for. No matter the mood, I invariably find something delightful and satisfying for meal time. Really easy to use and packed with valuable information.

### 5/5 — I love “cook mode”!!

*2026-08-26, version 4.168.0*

I’ve loved this app for years and didn’t think it could get any better, then they introduced “cook mode” which makes it even easier to use by listing ingredients under each instruction as they’re used, so you don’t have to constantly scroll back up to recheck measurements and such. A simple little touch that makes a huge difference. I also love when a recipe has a demo video. So many good ones!

### 5/5 — Excellent NYTimes cooking app

*2026-08-25, version 4.168.0*

I rely on the NYTimes cooking app often to prepare quick, easy, and delicious meals. It’s super useful and really great that it has so many and varied recipes. Also super that new recipes are added all the time. This app is so worth it.

### 5/5 — So much to make, so little time

*2026-08-25, version 4.167.0*

I am not one bit ashamed to admit I have over 2,000 recipes saved. The NYT has done us a great service by having the finest cooks of many countries offer their versions of their best local offerings. We live where there aren’t many restaurants specializing in foreign foods, but we don’t suffer—we simply turn to the Times and find some exciting, new recipes to try.

### 4/5 — Useful and Fun

*2026-08-25, version 4.167.0*

A helpful app for finding new recipes and keeping dinner time from slouching into repetitive boredom. The recipe box keeps things organized and the ability to keep personal notes puts this app a big notch above simply using blogger recipes. The search function is accurate and a big time saver. I wish the recipes and contributors had more variety. I also wish the recipes were, in general, more delicious. I was a longtime subscriber of Fine Cooking, and their recipes were consistently more delicious and varied.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Subscription nightmare

*2026-08-25, version 4.168.0*

It’s so NYT to male unsubscribing impossible. I spent an HOUR on hold waiting for a customer service rep to tell me they could not cancel my subscription because it was through Zuora. Do not subscribe.

### 1/5 — This update is broken

*2026-08-24, version 4.141.0*

After being told to update I keep getting looping message to update to later iPadOS which I cannot do. Zero stars…

### 1/5 — What happened to the watch app?!

*2026-08-19, version 4.166.1*

I used the watch app heavily, and now it’s gone. Why?!

### 1/5 — No longer works on iPad Pro 10.5

*2026-08-16*

I generally enjoy the app and use it on my iPad Pro 10.5, but it no longer works. The iPad Pro 10.5 can’t use iOS 18 which is now required for NYT Cooking. I can’t download the updated version of NYT Cooking and if I try to use an older, supported version, it tells me that I have to update to the new version. Maybe I can get a reduction on my NYT subscription…

### 1/5 — I prefer the website

*2026-08-16, version 4.166.1*

I dont like the app, and safari won’t stop opening the app as long as its installed. I wouldn’t be opening the website in safari if I wanted to use the app. In the trash it goes.

### 1/5 — Can’t use the app any more!

*2026-08-16, version 4.138.0*

Since I have only IOS 17.7, and apparently can’t update to iOS 18, I can’t open the app anymore. All my saved recipes are lost.
NYT cooking was one of the reasons why I subscribed to the NYtimes.
Can’t imagine, why you can’t let people use the older version compatible with the older IOS anymore.
You lost a customer.

### 1/5 — Ads despite paid subscription

*2026-08-14, version 4.166.1*

The app shows ads despite my account being a paid subscription. Unacceptable.

### 1/5 — Ads???

*2026-08-11, version 4.166.0*

Now there’s ads. Stupid.

### 1/5 — No large text accessibility

*2026-08-10, version 4.166.0*

I am unable to use this app because the only font size I can change is the ingredient list. It’s like trying to be the great bake off and figure out the recipe horrible!

### 1/5 — So useful

*2026-08-08, version 4.166.0*

Great variety of recipes. Easy to save and organize with option to write own notes.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Consistently Fabulous

*2026-09-01, version 4.168.0*

I really live NYT recipes. Sometimes they need a bit of translation for the UK. The range is really incredible. Quickly becoming my first port of call for ideas and variety.

### 5/5 — It’s the only online cookbook I need

*2026-08-29, version 4.168.0*

I have a library of cookbooks off my kitchen covering every cuisine and time period ( including a WW II one for rationing…it may come in handy again). But my go-to source for cooking is the NYTIMES cooking app. The like minded readers offer wonderful critiques, suggestions, and tales that I’ve come to rely on. Well done, you

### 5/5 — Great recipes!!

*2026-08-29, version 4.168.0*

I have so many NYT recipes that I just love…like their Turkey Burgers! They taste phenomenally good, are actually quite simple to make and healthy at the same time! That’s just one example…I love this app!

### 5/5 — My go-to!

*2026-08-29, version 4.168.0*

Great app! I use it every day.

### 5/5 — Those helpful hints...LOL!

*2026-08-29, version 4.168.0*

Sure the recipes are amazing... But the comments are the tenderloin! Hard to name the best but when you're making Salade nicoise and someone suggests... "Swap the tuna for tofu and instead of hard boiled eggs use Cadbury milk chocolate! Tomatoes? Not me... I go with ripe juicy plums! And who needs vinegar in the dressing? Coca cola is the key to unlocking the majesty of the haricot verts... PRICELESS!

### 5/5 — NYT Cooking

*2026-08-28, version 4.168.0*

Simply inspiring. As a dyed in the wool Southern cook. You gotta be good to inspire!

### 5/5 — My Must-have kitchen resource

*2026-08-28, version 4.168.0*

A daily staple of my daily meal planning/prep for over ten years

### 5/5 — Very informative

*2026-08-28, version 4.168.0*

I am an avid cook and baker. I’ve learned so much from the recipes and content, including comments from others! Well worth the subscription fee.

### 5/5 — Interesting recipes

*2026-08-28, version 4.168.0*

I enjoy cooking so that variety of recipes is really wonderful. I love how you can save them in categories.

### 5/5 — Love this App

*2026-08-28, version 4.168.0*

Very useful, easy to use. I live saving recipes there in folders. I have not
Made all of them, but I plan to
