### 4/5 — Play button

*2026-08-24, version 2.27.0*

Love the game but the play button is in the wrong place. There should be an extra step before the play button is activated

### 3/5 — Subscription

*2026-08-23, version 2.27.0*

I really enjoined the game and the fact that you can play against AIs and real people, but the fact that you cannot use the AI Cross Bot unless you subscribe brings the whole thing down.

### 4/5 — Fun!

*2026-08-23, version 2.27.0*

Former Words w Friends player. This is a fun game! Tell me how to turn off the alerts when no one is requesting that I play.

Great game! Better than WWF 🙂

### 5/5 — This is fun

*2026-08-20, version 2.27.0*

It’s nice to be able to just take a break and have a fun game with goodness knows who anywhere in the world. And it keeps my brain active, so that’s always a good thing!

### 5/5 — Cheating

*2026-08-19, version 2.27.0*

I thoroughly enjoy playing against my family, although my sister in law definitely cheats

### 5/5 — Cross play fun

*2026-08-19, version 2.26.0*

Enjoying competition

### 5/5 — Great game

*2026-08-19, version 2.26.0*

I play this game with my family every evening and always have fun. Works well and haven’t encountered any issues.

### 4/5 — One quibble

*2026-08-18, version 2.26.0*

I think it is an unfair advantage to be able to end the game with unfavorable tiles in your rack. Why not do what Scrabble does. The game is over when one player plays all his or her tiles.

### 4/5 — Please make a dark screen mode!

*2026-08-18, version 2.26.0*

Please make a dark screen mode!

### 5/5 — SO FUN!

*2026-08-18, version 2.26.0*

This game is so much fun and relaxing. I lov playing it with my family.

### 5/5 — Great word game to play with friends

*2026-08-17, version 2.26.0*

NYT Crossplay word game is well designed.
You can play with friends or random opponents of similar skill level or just play against the computer.
Play at your own pace or compete at a quick head to head speed.
No annoying ads or offers to purchase upgrades.
Just a fun word game!

### 5/5 — Wow

*2026-08-17, version 2.26.0*

Its LIT

### 5/5 — An educational way to pass the time

*2026-08-17, version 2.26.0*

I love this game, although there are times actual words are not eligible. It has become a competitive game for me and the family.

### 5/5 — Great game

*2026-08-17, version 2.26.0*

Really enjoy cross play. Great user interface and no bots

### 3/5 — Not the best

*2026-08-16, version 2.26.0*

Just because it's a NYT game doesn't mean it's the best out there, it's far from it. Whatever letter distribution algorithm they use stinks and the bonus tile placement stinks.

### 4/5 — Fun game, some concerns

*2026-08-16, version 2.26.0*

Obviously the goal here was not to exactly match Scrabble, so I'm broadly fine with the endgame being different. But it's a real flaw that, because each player gets one more turn after the tile bag is emptied, the person who started the game sometimes gets one extra turn -- which is a huge advantage in a close game. I play with one specific friend and whenever that happens, the person with the extra move intentionally plays a word like IS to preserve the fairness of the game.

### 3/5 — “hard” computer competition isn’t really

*2026-08-16, version 2.26.0*

Easy to beat even though it cheats and says “hm” (hectometer) is a legit word but cm, mm, and km are not - seriously?

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Very upset

*2026-08-21, version 2.27.0*

New version took away ability to review games

### 1/5 — Error in Game

*2026-08-12, version 2.25.1*

Major error in game. Person that starts the game also gets the last turn. Need to fix that bug.

### 1/5 — Not good

*2026-08-12, version 2.25.1*

I’m bad at word games so I don’t like playing Crossplay

### 1/5 — Very buggy

*2026-08-11, version 2.25.1*

The app is great when it works, the problem is that it crashes frequently. I’ve submitted multiple bug reports over the past six months and nothing has improved. It’s very disappointing and discouraging.

### 1/5 — Words?

*2026-08-10, version 2.25.1*

You should not be able to play two letter words that are not English words!!!

### 1/5 — iPad Version?!

*2026-08-08, version 2.25.1*

The fact that on an iPad Crossplay stays in portrait mode is silly. This should be integrated into the existing NYTGames app, which already supports the iPad UX.

### 1/5 — Not a word

*2026-08-07, version 2.25.1*

I looked up what the computer claims are words and they are not words. I also tracked the count under letters. The computer is adding incorrectly in order to win. Fix Crossplay or the word will be spread about the lame program

### 1/5 — This game is horrible

*2026-08-04, version 2.25.1*

I keep losing against my mom
Because she keeps ripping off my words

### 1/5 — Great concept, awful dictionary

*2026-08-03, version 2.25.1*

I enjoyed the game thoroughly for the first few weeks but grew increasingly frustrated by the slang the dictionary allows (very USAcentric), lots of Spanish words allowed, some Latin but not commonly used Latin in some cases, viz quo, and unlimited time (1 week) for each move allows players to put down random high scoring combinations in the hope one of them will stick. I suggest allowing 10 minutes per move, but a player should be able to pause the game (up to a week say) during which time they have no access to the board until they resume. Also allow use of other dictionaries (as a replacement), eg Collins dictionary (UK). Subsequent games have proved the dictionary to be a pile of poo.

### 1/5 — 1 week time limit per turn?!

*2026-08-02, version 2.25.1*

I play my turn and the other player disappears. Then you can choose to resign and take a loss or wait for a week. That seems to be the game as it stands.
Oh, that plus accessing all your personal information. I’m guessing that part works really well.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — The best thing to do on my phone

*2026-08-25, version 2.27.0*

Addictive, Additive, Connective ! Love playing strangers and friends alike. The perfect distraction from the social media. I love crossplay !

### 5/5 — Thinking game

*2026-08-25, version 2.27.0*

Tried this a few times getting trounced thoroughly. Finally had some breakthroughs and learned strategies from losing and now I’m not bad at it and enjoy playing.

### 5/5 — Play against friends and family

*2026-08-25, version 2.27.0*

Really enjoy playing against my brother who lives 1000s of kilometres away. It is a great way to stay in contact

### 5/5 — Loving cross play

*2026-08-24, version 2.27.0*

Loving Crossplay

### 5/5 — I LOVE CROSSPLAY

*2026-08-23, version 2.27.0*

Best game OAT and no ads thank u

### 5/5 — Brain Game

*2026-08-23, version 2.27.0*

I love the challenge of creating words from random letters. Scrabble has always been fun for me-but no one in my family likes to play with me, so this gives me that outlet!

### 5/5 — Best game for Word Nerds

*2026-08-22, version 2.27.0*

I also play Scrabble Boggle & but puzzles

### 5/5 — My new obsession!!

*2026-08-22, version 2.27.0*

I’ve had this app for two days and I’m obsessed!!! The animations are flawless, the general flow of the app feels natural and amazing, and I can’t stop playing!! I keep learning new words and when I play with random opponents to match my level I always get a perfectly matched and leveled opponent. I cannot be any more obsessed with this and I love it so much!!!

### 5/5 — Great app

*2026-08-22, version 2.27.0*

Love the app. It’s simple and easy to operate and has some great features like move analysis.

### 5/5 — Great game, great app

*2026-08-22, version 2.27.0*

Additionally fun and a nice way to keep in touch with friends. One request: a “challenge” mode that doesn’t tell you whether a move you’re considering is legal. Let the opponent challenge as in Scrabble.
