Is EXTREMELY annoying. I get access through my work but pay to support NYT. It is hard to believe that this ‘family’ campaign actually brings in any new members. Refresh. Switch to another section and immediately go back? Refresh. Leave app for literally 5 seconds, even by accident? Refresh. Too often, stories appear framed around a preferred political narrative while facts or perspectives that complicate that narrative are minimized, buried, or omitted altogether. Independent media-rating organizations similarly place the Times to the left of center, with its opinion section rated even further left. A newspaper with the Times’ influence should challenge its readers with all material facts—not simply the ones that support the story it wants to tell. ### 3/5 — News good, spam bad *2026-09-01, version 11.90.0* Five stars for the excellent and insightful coverage from the Times’ superb reporting team. The app is still full of ads! What am I even paying for if you’re still shoving ads down my throat? The section layout in the app is a joke. The whole app feels like it was vibe coded by a teenager over the weekend. I called customer service, and the representative said there was no record of a subscription under my name. I explained that the charge on my credit card statement was clearly from The New York Times, but he said there was no record of the charge on his end. Completely confused, I asked, “Then how do I stop the charges?” He told me it was probably a scam. And the people on there are not much better than a pure AI service. Between them and PayPal I am having the morning from hell. Wait times to just chat with a NYT rep is 2.5 hrs. Then they told me I should call. Can you imagine the eye twitch that gave me?? Both companies were telling me to contact the other company. After spending 4 hours dealing with this nonsense, I need a Xanax. Or maybe five.
