## What is NZ COVID Tracer?

NZ COVID Tracer is the Ministry of Health’s official contact tracing mobile app. It helps you protect your friends, whānau and community by enabling faster contact tracing.

Help contact tracing go faster by creating a private digital diary of the places you visit. Scan the official QR codes wherever you see them and add manual entries for your visits to other places.

Use Bluetooth Tracing to enable the Exposure Notification System on your phone, so people around you can be anonymously notified if they are exposed to COVID-19.

Sign up for contact alerts in case you’ve checked into a location at the same time as someone with COVID-19, or exchanged anonymous Bluetooth keys with someone with COVID-19.

If you’re found to have COVID-19, you can share your digital diary with contact tracers. This will help us identify whether any of your friends, whānau or community members may have also been exposed, so we can respond quickly and stop any further spread of the virus in New Zealand.

If you test positive for COVID-19, you can also upload your anonymous Bluetooth Tracing keys so that other app users who have been close to you will be quickly notified. This helps to keep your friends, whanau and community safe without compromising on your privacy.

Register your contact information so contact tracers can get in touch if they need to.

The Ministry of Health has worked closely with the Privacy Commissioner and independent security experts during the development of NZ COVID Tracer to ensure your privacy and data security are protected.

Your digital diary will be stored securely on your phone and deleted automatically after 60 days. Any personal information you choose to share with contact tracers will be used only for public health purposes and never for enforcement.

Information about who you have encountered using Bluetooth Tracing will never leave your phone and is automatically deleted after 14 days.

### 1/5 — Fix MIQ!

*2021-11-19, version 6.0.1*

This app is mostly useless for New Zealanders overseas as our citizenship no longer allows us entry into the county.

### 2/5 — Doesn’t Work For iPad

*2021-08-20, version 5.1.0*

New Zealand has recently entered Level 4, and wants to keep close tabs on people to avoid COVID transmission. Yes, that is commendable. Unfortunately, not everyone owns a smartphone. I use an iPad for all my digital needs, and since it isn’t a model with telephony ability, this NZ COVID App Tracer doesn’t work because the Bluetooth needs constant internet/mobile data informational exchange, and the iPad just doesn’t do that. So unfortunately, this app is useless on the iPad.

### 5/5 — Crashes at launch recently

*2021-02-25, version 3.0.3*

A recent update fixed the problem and it seems the issue was also that I was running a beta release of iOS and forgot that I’d been using that phone with that version.

I’ve been a regular scanner, turned on Bluetooth exposure checks, everything. But just a few days ago the app started crashing at launch. Deleted it and reinstalled. Rebooted my phone. Everything I can think of. Have started to use Rippl in the meantime as I hope maybe it is some bug that will be fixed in next release of this app.

**Developer response:** Thanks for getting in touch to let us know. We are aware that NZ COVID Tracer currently crashes on the beta release of iOS 14.5. There is now a new version of the beta (beta2). Please upgrade to beta2 when it is available to you. This may take up to a few days to appear. Please don't reinstall the app - this will delete your diary and won't fix the problem.

### 5/5 — Can’t open app

*2021-02-14, version 3.0.2*

I can’t open the app on iOS 14.5. Crashes instantly. Tried reinstalling and restarting phone.

**Developer response:** Thanks for getting in touch to let us know.

### 2/5 — Needs to add diary entry on open.

*2021-01-18, version 3.0.1*

Currently when you use a QR code scanner (like ios native one) it only launches/opens the app. It doesn’t add the venues entry to your diary as it really should do to be a seamless experience.

So you still have to then stand there, navigate a few taps refocus and rescan the code. Really sub optimal.

If you really want people to scan then fix this behaviour/process so it’s a one stop one scan process.

**Developer response:** Thanks for your feedback. We're working hard on making the registration process more streamlined and supporting built-in password managers is something we're looking into.

I've passed your feedback onto the development team to include in the next release planning schedule.

### 5/5 — Bluetooth Tracing

*2020-12-10, version 3.0.0*

Can’t believe it took this long. But it’s finally here. Well done.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback and support with using the app.

### 3/5 — Make sure your “view my diary” is recording....

*2020-08-14, version 1.2.0*

I used the app on my old iphone and it worked fine... Then, a couple of weeks ago I upgraded to a new iphone. After using the app on the new iphone for several weeks I decided (yesterday)to have a look at “view my diary”. It was EMPTY!

After much fiddling, logging out, and back in, restarting the iphone etc. I finally got the app to record QR code’s. (As follows)

I completely uninstalled the app from my phone (there is a warning on the MOH website about how you’re going to
“Loose your data” — but the app had NO HISTORY for me anyway...). Restarted the iPhone, reinstalled the app, and now it works...

My suspicion is that something went haywire in the upgrade from the old iPhone to the new iphone...

Wash your hands folks!

**Developer response:** Kia ora, thank you for your feedback. We have been made aware of this issue and how you have managed to resolve it. We appreciate your persistence and patience in resolving this. Should you require further support please email help@covidtracer.min.health.nz

### 3/5 — It ok but....

*2020-06-05, version 1.0.1*

I have gone into retail places such as the Warehouse , Elliott Stables, a United bookstore and it has the right logo, but I get the”invalid QR...”. I have yet to be able to use the tracker. 3 stars for the idea. But...
