### 3/5 — Great resource but map images too small

*2021-02-16, version 3.0.3*

A zoom feature is needed on the maps just like the fish pictures. The writing is just too tiny.

### 4/5 — New lay out ok. But

*2018-06-13, version 3.0*

Like the new lay out but need to be able to have different favourites for each region. I fish three regions.

### 3/5 — A thought

*2013-12-04, version 2.2*

Would be handy for the visually impaired if the app had the ability to be viewed with larger text.

### 3/5 — Still needs correct map boundaries

*2013-06-16, version 2.2*

The fisheries areas in the Cook Strait and outer Sounds areas still need redefining to follow the proper borders as laid down in the Fisheries Act - especially for the restricted areas. Maybe a zoom function on the maps will help?

### 3/5 — Not quite there but better than before..

*2013-02-24, version 2.0*

Needs a full array of photos, surely not that hard to do. Missing info on Kingfish and Snapper... Why is our most popular fish left out???

### 3/5 — Andy

*2013-02-23, version 2.0*

It is a great a app but some of the most common fish in New Zealand don't have pictures for people to identify what species they have caught.
Great idea though just needs all pictures and a bit bigger to see clearly.
I Will keep it though.

### 3/5 — Good start

*2013-02-14, version 1.4*

Handy app, but missing a few pieces. Why so many missing pictures? Looking forward to an update.

### 4/5 — Great app

*2013-01-21, version 1.4*

Easy to use. A bit buggy - a line appears when viewing species details. User experience could be better and faster. Push Notifications could be a good feature to implement especially for updates to limits etc

### 3/5 — Not bad

*2013-01-18, version 1.4*

Yeah, needs to be updated with more pics. Good opportunity for Ministry to add other layers and info on species.

### 4/5 — nz fishing rules

*2012-12-05, version 1.36*

great app but could do with the season for scollops info on it

### 3/5 — Dr. Paua

*2011-10-23, version 1.1*

A great concept but certainly needs some tweaking. Images are a must. The 'use current location' didn't seem to work and if you are in the Central region the paua size is referred to by the Taranaki limits. Could cause confusion. Be great to get all Maori and scientific names too. Video quality is also poor.

### 4/5 — Excellent

*2011-10-02, version 1.0*

Awesome app. Looking forward to an update

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — No map of restricted areas??

*2026-05-19, version 4.1.1*

I am amazed there isn’t a simple way to see all restrictions on a map (unless it’s hidden somewhere?). Trying to figure out if one of the more than 20 restrictions relates to where you are hoping to go…. When it could all be on one map

### 1/5 — Crash

*2021-08-20, version 3.0.4*

App crashes when trying to find a fish species.

### 1/5 — A cop-out!

*2019-12-28, version 3.0.3*

This official app may be out of date and incorrect and they will not accept responsibility. We must all get the correct information from elsewhere but they don’t say where.
Why on earth don’t they take responsibility and keep the information correct. Unbelievable.

### 1/5 — Roydz

*2019-12-11, version 3.0.3*

Can’t enlarge Nz map to get exact region or tap/untap region option

### 1/5 — Sort out the International fishing Vessels

*2019-02-12*

Great add

### 1/5 — Good app

*2011-08-29, version 1.0*

Good app I personally would prefer to see a picture of the fish first for quicker identification rather than searching through names. But on the whole very good.

### 2/5 — Need bigger screen support!!!

*2018-12-19*

Content looks useful, however UI/UX need to improve like, still app does not fit into large screen(say iPhoneX).

Theme color, images and other resources like very simple, like 5 years back.

However, contents are very useful especially novice fish catcher.

### 2/5 — Improvements still needed

*2013-02-24, version 2.0*

Needs better photos, bag limits need better explanations. Important species like snapper are missing. Pig fish, granddaddy Hapuka, blue koheru. Maomao. Even some species names

### 2/5 — Nice idea but....

*2011-12-22, version 1.3*

Nice idea - basic & easy to navigate, however correct identification of fish & shell fish is key to complying with the regulations so its hard to belive that an app produced by the Ministry of Fisheries is unable to supply photos of so many of the listed species - very poor...

### 2/5 — Ok app

*2011-08-31, version 1.0*

A little buggy but with a few updates should be a good app

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Bottom trawling

*2026-03-26, version 4.1.1*

STOP

### 5/5 — Awesome

*2014-05-10, version 2.3.1*

Very handy for fishermen and the like. Great user interface. Generally, a great app to have on you if your a keen fisherman.

### 5/5 — Great app!

*2014-01-21, version 2.3.1*

Well worth having

### 5/5 — Love

*2013-03-06, version 2.1*

This app guys. Great work on the update. 👍👍

### 5/5 — Awesome. Hit 'update app' on menu to get missing species.

*2013-02-25, version 2.0*

Was missing the data but realise you need to hit the update app button to get any missing information. App is complete!!

### 5/5 — Missing Fish

*2013-02-21, version 2.0*

Great App, but no Snapper rules in the Auckland / Kermadec section in the latest update.

### 5/5 — Huge Improvement!

*2013-02-20, version 2.0*

Massive improvement with the update! It has gone from a 2 star app to a 5 star app! Well done, I can actually use it now.

### 5/5 — Awesome

*2013-02-20, version 2.0*

Ministry using tech, good on ya fellas

### 5/5 — Great app

*2011-09-07, version 1.0*

Yep its a first version and could be improved, but it is by far the most convenient way to access info while you are out there and faced with an uncertainty. And yes pictures of fish to select from to lead to identification and details would be a huge improvement.

### 5/5 — Ministry of Fisheries

*2011-08-29, version 1.0*

Great app... Five stars
