When it went through authorisation it changed to $24.99. I can see from my subscriptions that it appears to have an ongoing price of $24.99. In-app sale price was a lie. Now I am trying to cancel from the app and it will not allow any option other than to continue at $5.99. Very scammy. Also I didn’t realise the premium content would be weird right-wing stuff, I expected unbiased reporting. It’s truly bizarre. ### 2/5 — Recent changes *2026-07-03, version 8.0.2* I used to enjoy your App but the most recent updates leave readers frustrated about the features that used to be there. Please bring back article to article swiping, good organisation of pieces. This ability has gone, can you please change the settings for photos. Also there is way too much negativity in the stories lately. Rapes, murders, etc. Bad enough in NZ stories but a lot of the headlines are world stories, put some more feel good, human achievements etc. ### 2/5 — A backwards step *2026-07-02, version 8.0.1* Version 8 of the App gives it a feel more like social media than news. Almost endless scrolling & advertising. If all articles had dates they were published then we would be able to work out what’s new & what’s not. There is no clarity on any of the ‘headline’ pages and again the whole app is dominated by advertising. NZ Herald is difficult to follow and this upgrade looks as if some erk spilled coffee on a piece of paper and thought it looked like a good app format. It doesn’t refresh automatically anymore, the ability to swipe between articles is gone, and I’m getting lots of ads in my premium subscription. Every time I load up the app, the amount of white space that comes up leads me to think I’ve accidentally clicked through to an actual article page. But no, it’s the main landing page. It’s a major step back from the previous UI. Really puts me off using it tbh. Very Auckland-centric. I somehow scored free Premium for the last couple of years but now that that’s ended with the update, I’ll go elsewhere for my news. But where to go? Stuff is just as bad. The previous version was actually quite good. Latest iPhone and software ### 1/5 — New is NOT better *2026-07-29, version 8.1.2* After months of trial and waiting I have concluded that the Navigation and readability of articles on this App are so laced with advertising, videos & photos irrelevant to the article, unclear limits on articles and advertisements, that I am abandoning using it in favour of other superior news sources that are far easier to navigate and read. FAIL .
