## What is Oarsum?

Meet Oarsum Atlas for iPad. Your time on the water has a whole new view.

Explore your paddles on an expansive map, pin favorite trips and replay the routes you remember. A dedicated iPad layout brings your map and logbook together, with adjustable panels that give you room to explore. From a familiar stretch of river to a season of adventures, see more of the places you’ve paddled.

Every route has a place behind it. Search lakes and rivers around the world, discover more about the waters you visit and connect your paddles to their names. Revisit old favorites, trace your history and see which waters keep drawing you back.

Your logbook also has more to tell you. Ask Paddle Intelligence questions like “How far did I paddle this month?” or “Which water do I visit most?” Get answers from your saved paddles, generated on your device with Apple Intelligence on supported hardware.

Follow your progress through richer Insights, from activity trends and personal records to heart-rate zones and stroke efficiency. Replay a memorable paddle, explore how your speed changed along the route and put each trip in the context of your own history.

Out on the water, record kayaking, canoeing, stand-up paddleboarding and rowing on iPhone or independently on Apple Watch. The refreshed Watch display makes live metrics easier to read, with clearer connection and saving status from start to finish.

Your adventures stay yours. No account, no ads and no data sales. Precise routes stay on your device by default, with optional iCloud sync to bring your logbook across devices and optional Apple Health integration.

Oarsum is a recreational paddle logbook, not a navigation or emergency service.

### 5/5 — Find inner peace

*2026-07-30*

This is a great app for keeping track of how far you paddle. Nothing like me on the open sea, paddling away, trying to find inner peace. Who want the hassle of messing with a map. Surely, not I. When I get lost at sea. This app helps guide me home.

### 5/5 — Really cool idea, can’t wait to see future improvements

*2026-06-02*

As someone who tracks their running distances, I like the idea of doing the same when I go kayaking. Now I can keep track and push myself further through the app instead of timing myself and keeping my own notes. Great work! Hopefully we can add friends soon and also create events for group kayaking. I’d love to meet others who have similar interests through this app.

## Version history (last 4 releases)

### 1.2 — 2026-09-11

Version 1.2: Redesigned interface for continuity across Apple Watch, iPhone, and now, Oarsum Atlas on iPad. Introducing water search, scrubbable route replay, improved Watch continuity & deeper Siri integration.

### 1.1.1 — 2026-08-08

WATCH THIS.
Oarsum for Apple Watch now has a live map of your travelled route with return-to-launch context, redesigned start, pause, and end controls, and watch widgets that keep the essentials nearby.

Also in 1.1.1:
• Watch and iPhone hold on to each other better — paddles hand off, land, and save, even after signal drops and restarts.
• Your named waters stay quietly in sync across your devices using your private iCloud. New phone? No problem.
• Start, pause, resume, or end a paddle with Siri or the new Watch controls.
• oarsum.com links open straight in the app.
• Sharper visuals and small fixes throughout.
• A "What's new?" page at app launch

### 1.1 — 2026-07-29

Your paddle now reaches every glance, and your history finally explains itself.

OARSUM OPTIMIZATION
The native Swift app is now more efficient, with faster launch, smoother navigation, leaner background recording, and more durable recovery.

PADDLE INTELLIGENCE
New. Ask a real question about your own paddling, like how far you've gone, how your speed is trending, or which waters you return to, and get an answer grounded in your actual trips. It runs on device with Apple Intelligence on supported hardware.

STATS, REBUILT
A new Overview leads into four screens that each answer one question: Activity, Waters, Performance, and Records. Jump straight to All Time, Last 7 Days, or Streaks; read a 26-week paddle heatmap; and open the exact paddle behind any record instead of trusting a detached trophy. Fun facts about your totals now refresh on their own.

MAPS THAT OPEN READY
Completed paddles open already framed with a prepared overview. Repeat-route heatmaps reveal the water you keep coming back to, nearby paddles are tappable straight from the map, and new appearance and route-color options let the same route answer a different question.

THE UNIFIED PADDLE COCKPIT
Elapsed time, distance, effort, cadence, strokes, conditions, and controls now stay aligned across the iPhone Lock Screen, Dynamic Island, StandBy, and the Apple Watch Smart Stack.

INDEPENDENT APPLE WATCH RECORDING
Start, record, recover, and save a complete paddle on Apple Watch, even with your phone ashore. Finished Watch paddles land in your iPhone library automatically.

LIGHTER ON YOUR BATTERY
Background recording was rebuilt around wall-clock updates instead of constant wake-ups, with a durable route recorder that checkpoints as you paddle and recovers cleanly after an interruption.

ALSO IN THIS RELEASE
- Clearer Oarsum+ presentation, with the free monthly Deep Detail allowance shown where you spend it. Paywalls are no fun, but they can at least be informative.
- No account and no sign-in anywhere in the app; subscriptions are verified through your Apple Account.
- Updated in-app Privacy and Terms.

BUG FIXES
- Fixed a purchase screen that could show incorrect pricing
- Fixed an overlap between the on-water rails and the map legend
- Fixed a hang when opening trip detail
- Fixed the trip map snapping back to your location while you were reviewing a paddle
