## What is ObsiKO?

Tired of converting files or picking plugins? Spent the day on settings and never wrote a line?
Plenty of features, none of them talking to each other?

Everyday writing, LLM wikis, ontologies, Zettelkasten, mindmaps, reading logs, codices, schedules, file conversion — one app, no account or subscription. Obsidian vaults (.md/.canvas/.base) open as-is.
(AI runs on your own API key; with Apple Intelligence on, it can run on the device with no key.)

■ You see it first, before anything changes
· AI rewrites arrive as a suggestion card — nothing changes until you press Replace
· The AI agent works on a copy; only what you pick reaches your notes
· Before the first send to an outside AI, it shows what goes where and sends only if you allow

■ Share to the web, sync between devices (GitHub)
· "Share to the web" publishes a note at one address — theme, tables and images intact, comments too
· The text lives only in your GitHub account, never on our servers; "Stop sharing" takes it down
· Sync runs through your own repository and only ever deletes to the trash

■ Write once, it connects itself
· A "color" property colors the tab, header, tree icon, .base and codex cards. Define your own types and relations too
· Type "book" pops a search that fills the rest; "project" adds start/due to the calendar
· Highlight a PDF and quotes collect into a note of the same name, searchable and on the graph
· Wiki links, types, relations and PARA form one constellation — more links, brighter star

■ Infinite mindmap canvas (.canvas)
· Apple Pencil drawing — turn a sketch into an AI image. Have AI build an editable mindmap, or hand it yours
· Auto-build from a note's links, auto-layout, embeds, groups, relations. 5 styles, 10+ presets. Drop a URL or file to add a card

■ .base files and search
· Projects, kanban, cards, charts, a library (book/paper search), PARA, a budget that pastes receipts. Dataview queries become tables
· Filenames, full text, Korean jamo, semantic search — pin results, bookmark a query, or ask Siri

■ A dashboard and themes you arrange
· 50+ widgets plus query and embed boards — calendars, to-dos, habit trackers, stats. 20+ themes, your own fonts

■ Markdown and a writing helper
· Calm editing tuned for Korean. Format bar and cheat sheet, Mermaid, 20+ charts, inline drawing, video in a note
· 70+ structures across 13 genres (Hero's Journey, Save the Cat, SCQA, character sheets), Socratic questions and style polish
· Spell check, dictionaries, device TTS, a saved assistant role, on-device translation

■ Schedules and viewers
· A date in any file lands on the calendar (Obsidian Tasks compatible) — year/month/week/day, timeline, widget, reminders
· One frontmatter line switches the viewer: book, web novel, messenger, visual novel, codex

■ Clipping and conversion
· The article body and photos become a note, not just the URL — share button or RSS
· One-click Markdown for doc/docx, PDF, hwp/hwpx — one file or a folder; a read-only panel opens dozens more
· Import from Apple Notes, Notion, Evernote, Bear or Logseq — always into a new folder
· Highlight PDFs and Markdown to insert or quote. AI OCR and transcription (labelled by speaker)

■ AI agent
· Add an API key and go (Claude, Gemini, GPT) — the app is complete without one
· Builds mindmaps and .base tables on your phone and reads existing ones. Read-aloud and images in the editor
· File creation, automatic memory, LLM wikis, ontology and Zettelkasten design, MCP. Bulk work is desktop-only

■ Export, images, and everything else
· Marp properties make a deck. Export to PDF, HWPX, DOCX, EPUB, HTML, ZIP, wiki markup
· Dictate on iPhone (on device), Control Center, Lock Screen and Home widgets, Watch quick notes
· Ready for iOS 27 — Markdown round-trips with Apple Notes, the new Siri can add to a note, 4×6 widget
· Image editing, free image search, colors panel, routines, palette, focus timer, screen lock

All of it is free. No account, no payment, a small download.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.4.1 — 2026-10-10

■ New in 1.4.1

The dictionary, right where you write
· Repeated words → similar words — in the Writing Helper's Tighten view, tap [Synonyms] on a "'친구가' repeated 5 times" card and a similar word goes in with the right form and particle (친구가 → 벗이).
· Plainer words — spell-check results now suggest 359 plainer words recommended by the National Institute of Korean Language (오뎅 → 어묵, 레시피 → 조리법). One tap replaces every use in the note, particles included.
· In my notes — the dictionary shows the sentences where you used the word.

Smarter spell check
· Catches far more: 좋았을텐데 → 좋았을 텐데, 알아봐주세요 → 알아봐 주세요, 학생이였다 → 학생이었다, and phone typos (합니적인 → 합리적인).
· About 270 web-novel genre words (이동마법, 각성자, 회빙환) and foreign names and titles are no longer flagged.
· Fixing items no longer reloads the list, and long stretches with no spaces fold up with [Preview] and [Add spaces].
· If a very long note was only partly checked, it tells you so instead of saying "no errors".
· New words missing from the dictionary can be sent with [Suggest as a new word] from the flag — only the word, never your sentence.

Pre-publish check — mixed “ ” and " " quotes are unified in one go, and flipped quotes like “예쁘죠?“ get [Fix direction].

Living themes — Ink Wash gets rice-paper grain, bamboo shadows and a seal-stamp bookmark; Autumn Field gets maple shadows and a leaf bookmark that turns red; Ancient gets weathered old paper and a leather-strap bookmark. Colors shift with the time of day.

AI chat can use the ObsiKO Korean Dictionary and spell check directly ("check the spelling in this paragraph").

· On iPad, a pinned right panel opens and switches instantly without the slide animation.

### 1.4.0 — 2026-10-06

■ New in 1.4.0 - celebrating 100 years of Hangul Day

This year's Hangul Day marks 100 years since it began as "Gagya Day" in 1926 — so this update's biggest gifts are for the Korean language.

ObsiKO Korean Dictionary
· Definitions, examples, original forms (Hanja) and pronunciation from the National Institute of Korean Language's Standard Korean Dictionary and Urimalsaem, with no API key. Look up '먹었다' and it finds '먹다'; words with older forms have [Word history], showing how they were written century by century.
· Similar words and opposites appear as chips, and for a word you selected in a note, [Replace] puts one in its place in the right form (기뻤다 -> 즐거웠다). Mimetic words (빙그레, 껄껄) and idioms come along too, and tapping Star adds a word to your Word collection as a review card.
· My dictionary - names from your character codex and your own words appear at the top of the dictionary and are skipped by the spell checker.

ObsiKO spell check - our own Korean checker
· Finds spacing (할수 있다 -> 할 수 있다), particle (책를 -> 책을), keyboard-typo (몰랏다 -> 몰랐다) and spelling mistakes (햇갈린다 -> 헷갈린다) in one pass and fixes the certain ones at once. Text with no spaces at all is opened up in one go.
· Dialogue keeps the character's voice, and uncertain cases are only shown as 'Worth a look'. Results appear as underlines you can tap to fix in place.
· Mixed but correct spacings get a consistency suggestion, and [Check the whole work] gathers mistakes repeated across episodes so you can fix them together.
· It asks once before sending, and sent text is never used for training or stored.

Polishing - doubled passives (잊혀진 -> 잊힌), translationese and redundant expressions are shown with the fix, and 'Fix Korean particles' in find & replace adjusts particles when you rename someone (민준이 -> 철수가).

Hangul Day 100th icon - switch to a red-and-blue taegeuk-pattern icon (Settings ▸ Basics ▸ App icon).

Halloween Special
· Spooky theme - blood-red headings glow on pitch black while mist drifts along the bottom. The bookmark becomes a spider on a thread, and now and then a pair of eyes blinks in the margin.
· Monster draws - in the Random Box, pick a tradition (Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Western, fantasy, sci-fi) and get a name, lore, weakness and story seed on one card. No AI.

For serial writers
· Create a Web novel project and the whole work folder is set up at once. The Episodes tab in the outline shows order, status and length; tap [+ Write next episode] to keep going. Episode memos, Copy for pasting and a Pre-publish check, too.
· Status window changes marked, setups saved by the sentence, a Timeline of events in story-time order, and a writing timelapse that retypes each Hangul syllable as it came together.

· 3D dice, MBTI and Enneagram charts, Today's tarot (78 cards, no AI), the Color Fill puzzle and the Word time machine.
· Search in files finds inflected forms too (기쁘다 -> 기뻤다, 기쁜).

+ Other improvements and bug fixes

+ bug fixes, updated help

### 1.3.0 — 2026-09-20

■ New in 1.3.0

· The AI shows you first, before anything changes. Select text and choose AI Rewrite (polish, proofread, simplify, shorten, expand): a card appears right under it with the changes highlighted, and nothing changes until you tap Replace. The AI agent works on a copy of your notes too, and only what you pick reaches them. The first time anything would go to an outside AI (Claude, Gemini, OpenAI), ObsiKO asks first and shows what goes where.
· Share to the web — publish a note at an obsiko.com address in one step. It opens looking just like it does in the app, and the text is stored only in your own GitHub account. Sharing again updates the same address, "Stop sharing" takes it down, and shared pages can take comments.
· Sync across devices — keep your vault in step on phone, tablet and desktop through your own GitHub repository. Nothing is stored on ObsiKO's servers.
· Keep the notes you already have — open an Obsidian vault as it is, or import from Apple Notes, Notion, Evernote, Bear, Logseq, Roam or a Markdown folder on the welcome screen. Every import lands in a new folder, so your existing notes never change. Obsidian Dataview queries become tables (.base) in one tap.
· AI without a key, powered by Apple Intelligence — on an iPhone, iPad or Mac with Apple Intelligence turned on (iOS/macOS 26+), spell check, AI polish, writing questions and transcript summaries run with no API key. Your text never leaves the device. It is still early, so results can be off; a "beta" badge marks everywhere the on-device AI did the work.
· Translate selected text on the device (iOS 18+) — no key, no cost, and your text only changes when you tap Replace.
· "Hey Siri, open meeting notes in ObsiKO" — find and open notes from iPhone Search and Siri. Say "add a to-do in ObsiKO" and several items land in their own date notes.
· Dictate on iPhone — words appear as you speak, and recognition stays on the device. Record straight from Control Center or the Lock Screen (iOS 18+) and it is transcribed on the device into a new note.
· Control Center and widgets — Open, New note, Today's note, New mind map, Search, Run a routine, Start with a photo and Record as controls; all of them also as round Lock Screen widgets. On the Home Screen there is a widget for bookmarked notes and one holding eight shortcuts.
· Writing reminders — pick the days and times, get a notification, and tap it to open today's note. It fires even when the app is closed, and "Today's note" can be your start screen.
· A saved assistant role — set a role (synopsis only, description only) and a new chat keeps to it. Character and world notes can be attached as reference.
· Transcribe audio and video into notes — meetings and interviews are labelled speaker by speaker, and each timestamp jumps back to that moment in the original. Videos play inside a note, and a transcript carries the recording at the top, ready to play.
· Emoji stickers and character emotions in the messenger and visual-novel views. Record the screen and you have a short.
· Mermaid diagrams look sharper and pinch open to full screen. Long-press a mind map card to turn its text into AI artwork on the branch.
· HWPX export now uses real bullets, numbered paragraphs and page numbers. You can also open .md files straight in ObsiKO from another app.
· Ready for iOS 27 — the app now uses the scene-based structure Apple requires from iOS 27, so widgets, Siri, Search and Lock Screen recording keep working as before. Text copied with Apple Notes' "Copy as Markdown" pastes in as Markdown, and going the other way Notes turns it back into formatting. "Write with Siri" only ever opens as a panel, so it never rewrites your text behind your back. You can tell the new Siri to add something to a note, and the tall one-page (4×6) widget can hold the calendar or recent notes.

+ Various usability improvements, bug fixes, and help updates

### 1.2.0 — 2026-09-07

■ New in 1.2.0

· Routines — the same handful of steps, in one tap. A new Routine panel sits in the right sidebar. Chain together the things you do every day — open today's note, drop in a template, add a tag, start the focus timer — and from then on it's a single tap.
· Five examples are waiting when you first open it: tidy up writing, log today, start meeting notes, write with focus, start a new episode. Try one, and if you like it, keep it and edit it. Put {n} in the title and the next number is filled in for you, so serial chapters just count up. Nothing ever runs on its own — a routine only runs when you tap it.
· Long-press a character or setting note to generate artwork. The sheet you already wrote (age, appearance, clothing) becomes the prompt, and you can see and edit exactly what gets sent. One checkbox makes the result that note's cover image, which the codex and story viewers pick up right away.
· Random Box repeats itself far less often. Wuxia names went from 573 to over 20,000, sci-fi names, ruins and modern street names grew too, and signature colours went from 26 to 82 — cherry blossom and apricot through to deep crimson and ink. Two new stat presets: idol and hunter/dungeon.
· Code and config files in your vault — .js, .py, .json — now open exactly as they are. Before, quotes were curled and comments were folded into headings, quietly corrupting the file. Search looks inside them too.
· The visual novel backlog now shows only the path you actually took, and records which choice you made at each fork. Going back no longer skips the choices.
· Switch vaults in one step from the command palette, and copy to another vault by long-pressing a file.
· Smart quotes were doing nothing at all on iPhone and iPad. Fixed.
· Long-press menus are finger-sized now, and setting descriptions moved to a "?" button you can actually tap on a phone.

+ Assorted quality-of-life improvements, bug fixes, and new and revised help pages.
