### 3/5 — Inadequate lack of progression

*2022-12-29, version 3.0*

The game is fun, and I played through the entire game on Normal mode, since I’m just a causal gamer, but by the end the game was just plain boring.

The enemies are monotonous, the bosses and mini bosses are painfully easy to beat (too few attack patterns), and the progression path was slow. It didn’t seem to matter the skills that each character had, the whole game played pretty much the same. I was hoping this would be like moonlighter or other dungeon rogue RPGs in a similar style, but it wasn’t.

### 3/5 — Avoid Using Archer

*2022-08-29, version 3.0*

I’m going to take the time to leave a long review because it’s a great game, but there are things that need to be looked at. To start, the game is beautiful! The graphics are clean and polished. The auto design and level design are good. Overall I would say it’s a fun game to check out and try.

This review is about the archer alone though, being that is the only character I played, or should I say, needed to play.

Here is the thing with the archer. A single arrow can have a chance to instant kill, freeze, stop an enemy from attacking, and will always knock back. This being so, no melee character will ever touch you. I stopped playing the game on the last chapter due to being bored, and up the that point, I never died or got close to died while also playing on hard difficulty. I can’t imagine how easy the game would be on a easier difficulty.

Another thing about the archer is you can level and earn the skill to not take damage from floor spikes or fire. I cool touch, but it makes the level design obsolete. I can completely careless/carefree while running around. I simple fix would be to give the archer only one of these instead of both, but with both, you can stand where ever you want on the map, and shoot however far you want, and it just becomes boring not having to worry about anything.

I wanted to leave the review with some positive feedback for the team because I’d love to see the game improve. If anything, removing the knock back and canceling enemies attacks from the arrow could completely fix the archer. It would make the character more skill based, being all about timing from a distance which is normally how ranged characters are in games.

Couple more quick notes…

Bosses need to be more. Bosses need to be something that are a challenge. Something to fear. Something to kill you and set you back to the start. The bosses in the game were so simple and have only 1 or 2 attack mechanics. I honestly don’t think a boss ever hurt me.

Second, seeing the achievement pop up only in chapter 2 of the game that I’ve seen every enemy in the game is pretty disappointing. It gave me the feeling that I’m just getting started yet I’ve already seen everything? The player needs something to looks forward to, and as you progress through the gane, new/stronger enemies to kill us and make us feel weak is just common sense.

### 3/5 — Feels unfinished

*2022-05-31, version 2.2*

I like the game, but it feels like someone stopped creating the game in the middle. You can max out your levels and finish the game at 100% in a couple hours.

### 4/5 — To Easy

*2021-09-30, version 2.2*

Don’t get me wrong I enjoyed the game and for the first couple levels it was challenging but then it got way to easy once you understood the characters and I started it in hard. I understand keeping it playable for all age groups but “hard” should actually be hard. However I did live playing it and would play again. I love Oceanhorn

### 4/5 — Slightly too easy

*2021-06-24, version 2.1*

This game would be perfect if the difficulty was I lot higher. Super fun at first, but once you understand the game it becomes way too easy, even on hard mode. I guess this is perfect for children, and new video game lovers.

### 3/5 — Fun gameplay, disappointing lack of story

*2021-06-01, version 2.1*

The actual gameplay is enjoyable if simplistic, but the story is pretty much nonexistent . While it has a framing device tying it to the other Oceanhorn games, none of the characters or antagonists are given a backstory or any real context for what they are, and when you defeat the final boss it just sort of ends without ever showing whether the protagonists succeed or fail or what they did or how it leads into the original Oceanhorn. What are the consequences of defeating chronos? Who is he? Who are the protagonists and why do they want to do this? What do they do with the hourglass? Is this the same continuity as Oceanhorn or did it split the timeline?

Additionally, I feel like having all four characters be humans was a missed opportunity. Why no Owrou or Gillfolk characters? The Oceanhorn verse has other sentient species that are humanoid and can wield weapons and magic.

### 4/5 — Updates make it better😎 but...

*2021-03-26, version 2.1*

I enjoyed this game from day one. And I like seeing how the game is getting small improvements each month. But I still feel like co op needs to be better especially have an online co op. Because having 2 steel series controllers linked to my iPhone is not ok😂 honestly that’s such a small complaint but it could be an easy fix. Otherwise the music, combat, and exploring is a fun way to pass the time 🗡

### 3/5 — Magic Keyboard and Mouse Support

*2021-03-22, version 2.0*

I would not have give this game a low rating based on keyboard support, but, when paired with a keyboard, it cleary is implemented in the game. For me, the controls are very bugging and I can barley get the character to move with a keyboard! Please fix this as unusable controls severly impacts game expericene and poor magic keyboard and mouse control does not needs to exist on an Apple platform.

### 5/5 — Present Nostalgia

*2021-01-31, version 1.2*

This is a great game! Going through it a second time on hard. Hey developers, what is the point of character select in the beginning if it changes nothing when you load the game? When I played through the first time, I selected the knight and figured the order of characters and their health was attributed to that decision but when I loaded a second game and chose the huntress. The characters were in the same order with the same health? Shouldn’t the character you select when starting a new game get 4 hearts and the others tiered accordingly? As it stands there is zero reason to select a character when starting a new game.

### 5/5 — Good 👍🏼

*2021-01-25, version 1.2*

I do like this game, and I would like to give it 5 stars but I am not quite satisfied yet. Maybe it was because I had too high expectations after Oceanhorn 2, which was by the way one of my favorite games. I didn’t have many bugs, almost none at all, and the graphics are cool too. One thing that confuses me is that is says under the title: Coop adventure for all ages, but then it says it’s single player, it would really be great to make it a multiplayer game.

### 4/5 — Good, Could be better, broken weekly challenge scoring

*2021-01-22, version 1.2*

Overall, it’s a fun 2-4 hr game, just don’t expect much of any story line to the game (I beat the game for reference). I would have appreciated more of an explanation of what the character keywords and items do, along with how extreme temperatures and risk work. It took a while to figure out what constellations did and how they increase character damage if that’s when they are born too. I think the developers though the tips occasionally given would be enough, but many repeat without explaining everything. There should be a list of how all of the items work (especially for the umbrella), a list of character keywords (wealthy, unlucky, special, etc), and other explanations. Maybe just better tips at the very least. Controls are decent enough for me, I know others aren’t satisfied, but I also play with a controller.

Also, the weekly challenge scoring system is terrible (I figured out the math and now have the global high score this week). The time bonus is based entirely on the seconds when you leave a dungeon. 4:59 is 300 points less than 5:00. As long as you have a wealthy character, don’t die, and time your exit, you will be at the very top of the leaderboard (this is how I am first place). The health scoring is decent.

### 4/5 — Great start

*2021-01-19, version 1.2*

This is a great start. Graphics are enjoyable. The controls could use a little improvement, the grandmaster in particular is almost unusable due to the way he attacks and only going in 4 directions. He needs a swipe the the sword. The game is fun it just needs some incentive for playing. I’d love to level up and collect gear in order to make my next run easier. Maybe even skill tree to unlock that gives some perks. Nothing ground breaking, just want to feel progress and get loot.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — legend of zelda wannabe.

*2022-12-17, version 3.0*

i’m not gonna even play the game; everything the developers DONT say is what i hear.

see, there is taking certain aspects of a game to make your ORIGINAL idea better, and completely ripping it off. oceanhorn as a whole is a sad excuse of a zelda game, starring a blonde, blue-eyed male protagonist wielding a sword to save the kingdom from an all-powerful force with heart containers, stamina, dungeons, and items. except they managed to take aspects from an icon game, the legend of zelda: phantom hourglass, and screw it up. i hope to take this to court someday, and believe me i’ll crush your sorry company who can’t come up with a good idea. if you want a quality gaming experience, play the legend of zelda games, particularly if you like this plot, which was ripped from the legend of zelda: phantom hourglass.

### 1/5 — I did not download this game

*2022-09-21, version 3.0*

Its kinda weird how it download by itself if i didnt even have to face id that so idk how it download

### 1/5 — Berserker

*2022-03-29, version 2.2*

I'll change my review once you fix this issue, because the game is great but this one problem is ruinkng the gameplay. The Beserker trait DOES NOT WORK. Regular enemies are supposed to be one-hit if the Risk is 100. Sometimes this works, and enemies can be killed with one hit. But suddenly it will stop working even though the Risk has not changed. Nowhere in the trait description does it say this is a temporary ability, or that it only works sometimes. There is literally zero reason for my attacks to not be instantly killing the enemies.

### 1/5 — Needs work

*2022-01-30, version 2.2*

Not fun no auto hit so killing is useless. You do get hit faster then you can kill.

### 1/5 — Ugly menu UI

*2021-02-01, version 1.2*

Also my original review was deleted by the dev so thought I would post it again. No online coop makes it pretty meh, the controls make it pretty abysmal for a hack n slash, and the menu UI is always on screen. This is the reason why the devs chose to use screenshots of the online challenge gameplay and not the solo gameplay, because it is not pleasant to look at. How hard is it to remember that the left button is movement and the right is attack? I seriously have to have that on screen 100% of the time? You can’t implement an option to take that off in settings? It’s clear that it’s removable because it’s gone when you do online challenges.

Anyway all around bad design decisions.

### 1/5 — Unsatisfying Exploring and Gameplay

*2021-01-11, version 1.1*

+ Nice throwback graphical style
- Narrated tips and tricks ruin discovery
- No sense of improving as you go deeper in the dungeon
- Worst final boss fight in recent years
- Discover everything too early
- No reason to continue after beating the story
- Modifers don’t have a huge impact on the gameplay

2021 doesn’t start off well with this game. Bland combat, lame exploring, and the only real unique hooks come with the modifiers that you have no control over. I beat the game in about 4 hours with a 97.5% completion and I have no desire to continue, especially after one of the most poorly designed boss fights I have ever witnessed.

I can appreciate Cornfox switching things up with Oceanhorn, but maybe it’s time to move on.

### 1/5 — Couch Co-Op is pointless

*2021-01-08, version 1.1*

Couch co-op games aren NOT MULTIPLAYER. If you can't play on your own device there's no point with iOS. Who in their right mind wants to share a mobile screen? You "could" plug into a TV but that's not very mobile, is it? Stop advertising as multiplayer if it's not really. My family's days with Apple Arcade are numbered because there are so few multiplayer games and not a single decent adventure games that can be played for all ages. Minecraft and Terraria are still the only options and they aren't Arcade.

### 2/5 — Can’t save when you need to

*2023-10-08*

I’d like to love this game but the auto save system is horrible. Get a phone call? Boom you just lost your game state.

### 2/5 — A basic game that needs to be fleshed out

*2021-08-10, version 2.1*

The multiplayer on appletv with controllers is good, but the game plays more basic than the original Gauntlet.

The character progression is limited, the upgraded items are ok. The story just doesn’t pull you in, and there is no story for your characters.

### 2/5 — Boring

*2021-01-20, version 1.2*

The idea was good, but the overall experience is lacking. For starters, the gameplay is missing a few important things, fun factor. It is very repetitive, and none of the characters feel like they can do any sort of damage. The movement is decent, but when it comes to attacking the problem is trying to face an enemy. The bow, is totally worthless due to that fact, and the spear is just as annoying when trying to hit someone diagonal.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Fun mindless dungeon crawler

*2023-07-18*

I played this primarily stoned on easy mode and beat it in just barely under 5hrs without 100%ing anything It was an enjoyable experience nothing was truly hard though I struggled with a mini boss one go around but I chalk that up to user error haha. If you have apple arcade and are even loosely interested in the genre its definitely worth grabbing

### 5/5 — Really Fun!!!!

*2023-07-16*

This game is really fun it’s an enjoyable game to play

### 5/5 — I love it!

*2022-10-17, version 3.0*

I’ve certainly been having fun playing it. It’s a zelda / rogue like hack and slash type game that’s extremely addictive.

### 5/5 — Awesome

*2022-09-10, version 3.0*

This is a great Zelda-like game to enjoy without frustration. The story is interesting and every character class is fun to play. I highly recommend a game pad though as the on screen controls were a bit difficult.

### 5/5 — I great game

*2022-03-24, version 2.2*

I know this is crazy because the games name is chronos dungeon but I want more story or more levels but overall great game

### 5/5 — (Developers please read) Need more bosses

*2021-11-09, version 2.2*

The last boss was to easy for me and my sister actually all bosses so they need to get harder

### 5/5 — Amazing game

*2021-06-20, version 2.1*

1980s styled beauty!

### 5/5 — Really good

*2021-05-16, version 2.1*

Game was really fun but too easy and short :( look forward to future updates.

### 5/5 — Great game.

*2021-05-11, version 2.1*

I love the game the retro nostalgia is it. I even use my ps4 controller. Can you made more content and usable and not usable characters?

### 5/5 — Couch Co-op Gauntlet

*2021-03-28, version 2.1*

Co-Op 1980’s Gauntlet action. Me and my daughter play this together when we see each other. It takes me back to the days of going to the bowling alley and dropping a few dollars in quarters on the behemoth 4 player cabinet.
