They’ve known about the problem for more than a year (I’ve reported it and so have others) and either can’t fix it or can’t be bothered to. So while I really like the game, there’s no point in playing it. I deleted it, picked it back up after a few years. The specific problem I reported before is fixed, but it’s super-buggy now. Can’t resume a game because it won’t load. Cards tend to freeze on the screen and won’t shrink down. Parasitism card often doesn’t work. **Developer response:** Hello! Wish it was more user friendly to read cards. Iike when it’s opponents turn I can’t read my cards. And their are times when I can’t read the deep cards. And it would be nice to just click the cards to read instead of having to hold finger down. It would be great to be able add friends and invite them to games. And push notifications would be nice. I love the board game and was excited for the app. It is just as fun with decent AI options and the images and play are fun . The game crashes for me a lot though. I hate that I can not see the full card for those in y hand without playing it and there is not enough undo features. With how small and hard it is to read and see everything at once. They were just randomly chosen but now I am able to create decks and play vs. difficult AI opponents which is fun. I am happy to support the creators of the app but there is just one annoying aspect…! If restarting the app, the game won‘t remember that I purchased the IAP. No problem, I just click on restore. Problem solved? Yes and no. If the servers will be shut down in the future, I won‘t be able to restore my purchase… There are lots of games which don‘t have this problem. That’s fraud. As for the game, selecting Hard AI causes repeat crashes, forcing players to settle for easier difficulties. A shame, because the core game is well-implemented. This kind of regression betrays both customers and the original design. Presumably, the app is trying to phone home to North Star servers. 1 star because the app cannot be played in airplane mode (i.e., without internet connectivity). ### 1/5 — Constant crashes *2022-11-25, version 2.4.1* I would love to give this a 5 star review because the game is fun and it’s an excellent digital translation, but the game crashes pretty much constantly and isn’t able to recover-once I crash I can’t ever progress past that turn. So far it’s only happened with the Medium AI, which is one of the reasons I paid for the full version. I bought the expansion and was really enjoying the game. I needed to study and uninstalled it. When reinstalling I attempted to restore my purchases. The app hangs in an infinite loop never downloading the expansions. This is after leaving the phone alone for 4+ hours. I like the game overall and would enjoy it if I could access the expansions I purchased. Currently, I’m playing free version on easy AI and with limited deep cards. It gets boring quick. There are pretty cool and new mechanics for a card game! Well done! Sadly you can play with only 1 deck, and there is no way to get new cards without spending money ### 5/5 — Interesting and enjoyable *2025-04-06* Oceans is a rather unique card game that is easily one of my favorites. It’s not a deck builder, it’s a creature builder. The rules are simple, yet the strategies for survival can be quite complex. While there is some minor element of randomness and luck (it is a card game) skill and planning will be far more important as you can always just discard the cards you don’t need until you get something you do. The artwork on the cards is beautiful and colorful. The theme of the game ties well into the game play itself. And it’s just plain satisfying to create your own little ecosystem of interconnected species all benefiting from each other. If you enjoy interesting and unique card games, or find topics like evolution and marine biology interesting, give this game a try. The presentation is pretty good and the play actions and animations are really smooth and everything is integrated really nice. To top it off the AI is really good and I have only been playing on medium. I am actually learning strategies from a medium AI. I can only imagine how much more of a challenge the hard AI will be. This app convinced me pick up the physical board game and play with other people.
